Afghanistan - what a mess by Biden and Trump...

Because the Dems have pulled another fast one.

70% of these refugees won't be "translators" who fought on the battlefield with US forces. They will be those who were able to get to the airport, and fast enough to run onto a plane.

Why don't you google and see how well Afghan immigration has worked for Europe.
However you feel about "those people," the point, I think, is that you don't get to sit there and criticize Biden for failing to get out the people you don't want here, anyway.

That's pathetic. We admit hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants and refugees carrying God-knows what diseases including covid postives in excess of 15% by waiving all immigration protocols and we can't admit a handful of dogs because all of a sudden we have customs protocol requirements? Some of these dogs might be a little kid's pet who had to flee. I'm just sick of what our government has become.
COH: Actually, I don't think there was ever any implied commitment to bring Afghan people out of Afghanistan. They knew what they were signing up for. F*ck 'em.

Also COH: Biden is a goddamn MONSTER for not patriating Afghan dogs!

WTF, man? Do you even take yourself seriously at this point?

He once again sets up the false choice of a troop surge or honoring the Trump withdrawal. That reality only exists if you allow yourself to be dictated to by the Taliban.

Not to mention his annoying habit of blaming everyone else and then claiming the withdrawal went as well as possible. Which is it? Was the withdrawal a success or did the Trump admin and Afghan army put you in a position to lose lives?

Here’s what I don’t get. Biden blames Trump for agreeing to withdraw. Then Biden takes credit for withdrawing.

I don't think he blames Trump for agreeing to withdraw since Biden has supported withdrawing, he may disagree with some of the provisions of the deal. I have no idea what options were available in the deal, so I'm not going to criticize the deal. It may have been the best we could do. Ideally the prisoners wouldn't have been released until we left, but the art of compromise is that we have to give up stuff too.

Hey Marv..., as an amateur historian I'm surprised you've allowed Biden and his spokes-people to get away with having called this Fiasco "the Largest airlift in US history" on multiple occasions...

While it doesn't surprise me, at all, that They don't know US History, their ignorance of it shouldn't give them a pass when it comes to using Fake facts to spin this debacle...

***My comments are not meant in any way to disparage the servicemen and women who actually participated and executed the crappy mission given them to the best of their ability (and..., as usual..., did a sterling job of making Lemonade out of the nearly rotten lemons provided by the Biden team)...

Here's the Reality in regard to US Airlift History:

The article is right on that specific point, wrong in others. It was what we signed up to do, we had two candidates running vowing they would end the Afghan war. The article sure implies that this was a cowardly retreat, I do not think it was not would I if Trump completed that part of the deal. It was a realization that facts on the ground showed we spent 20 years wrong.

Kudos on using the same format I used when replying to you.

The difference is, I repeated what you actually said. You made up what COH said and mischaracterized it.

I know you can do better.

As you know, the topic is the Airlift itself, not the history of the war, nor the "decision" to exit.

As seemingly No One on the Left is willing to acknowledge..., it was Never the decision to leave itself that most took issue with (although I did and was in the minority)..., It is/was the incredibly bungled, making literally every wrong decision possible, approach to the execution of leaving that all but the most partisan Do take issue with...

I always thought you were more of a moderate Democrat but if you're attempting to spin this Debacle I guess I was wrong...

I think things went worse than they should have. But I am not sure we know the details. I have complained about not getting civilians out, but then it turns out we have told people since March to get the hell out of Dodge. The Bagram decision looks like a mistake but it appears what the military advised. I agree it looks bad but we don't yet know how bad. Eventually people will come forward.

But that article had a tone implying we should have stayed. Any departure from Afghanistan would result in the Taliban taking over and looking like we ran. One struggles to leave a war without victory with dignity. I am sure we should have done things better, I am just not sure we know all the facts.

But you are right, this was not the Berlin Airlift. Maybe the largest airlift of humans. The largest mass evacuation ever was East Prussia but it was mostly sea, like Dunkirk.

As to Bagram.....somewhere along the line one of the brass said that Bagram was not tactically useful to "the mission". So what was the mission? Defense of the US Embassy! If that was the stated mission Bagram was not of much use to the mission.

None of the state/defense/WH reporters were intelligent or industrious enough to ask the right question, to-wit, what was the stated mission at the time Bagram was abandoned?

I thought the Berlin airlift only provided supplies? I didn't know they removed people from Berlin? Are you sure they conveyed people out?

Someone on Twitter actually framed this Spin operation most clearly:

They (the Biden Administration) shouldn't get some sort of special credit for calling the tow truck (and its subsequent actions) after having been solely responsible for having wrecked the vehicle of state in a ditch... 😡

I’m not sure what your point is here. I think the sole reason Biden casts blame on Trump is because that is what Democratic polling data requires Biden to do. A lot of Trump blame from all quarters is vacuous talking points without substance. This is no exception.

I have heard many people specifically blame Trump on the timeline and the release of the Taliban prisoners. That isn't the same as blaming him on leaving, they are specific points. I don't blame Trump on either as I don't know what happened in the talks. Maybe we had to turn over the prisoners to get any deal. I don't know. But complaining about that isn't the same as complaining about everything.

It gets much worse. How many heartwarming stories have we read and heard about our military dogs? About the lives they saved in Afghanistan? Well, think about this . . . . .we left them all. We had room on the planes. We left them all
No, that was a lie.

Pentagon Spokesman John Kirby called out right wing media outlets spreading false information.

"To correct erroneous reports, the U.S. Military did not leave any dogs in cages at Hamid Karzai International Airport, including the reported military working dogs. Photos circulating online were animals under the care of the Kabul Small Animal Rescue, not dogs under our care," Kirby said in a tweet.

Yea, the rube outrage porn also included the dogs.

It was a POW exchange. Our side held more prisoners, so the numbers reflect that imbalance.

But we had to know that prior to the exchange. I can't believe we were caught completely flatfooted on the difference in numbers.

Read more completely:

The U.S. military on Tuesday denied reports in the wake of its departure from Afghanistan that it had left working dogs behind at the airport in Kabul.

The specific comment about the dogs being in cages was to address the FAKE pictures going around on social media to fool the rubes.

Forbes says training and equipment. Nothing about operating costs.

How much do you think went to training those illiterates?

The equipment figure is about $18 billion from 2001-2018 according to a July 2019 report from the Special Inspector General for Afghan Reconstruction. Naturally one of the myriad groups of Trumper trio of stooges, (Boebert, Blackburn, and the Orange one himself) latched on to the $85 Billion for all costs in Afghan figure so they could exaggerate the equipment cost and stir up their base. Must've worked, since you're repeating it here...

When I first read the article you linked, I was astounded that a "military media source" could be so off on the actual amounts, and keep repeating incorrect, highly inflated numbers. You know since the SIGAR had previously issued his official account 2 yrs earlier and anyone connected to the Defense Dept would know the actual facts? So I checked the "about" tab for "American Military News" and discovered it is in no way any accurate military source...

Did you think you were quoting a credible source?

So what's next? Somebody is going to repost the lie that Biden looked at his watch during the ceremony, despite the 45 min video from CSPAN (which wasn't edited to score political points) clearly, shows that the vans have driven off and the ceremony has ended before Biden looks at his watch? Are you going to repeat that lie as well...

When someone makes a false claim on FB and doesn't reply (or suddenly disappears) when fact-checkers contact them and ask them to "defend" their claim, that's usually an indicator that if you believe the claim you're being conned... Congrats?

The ceremony had ended before Biden looked at his watch?!?!!!? I don't know what alternative universe you're living in but I watched clips of his doing it (during the Transfer Ceremony) on 3 different networks... I suppose you're going to tell me that MSNBC and CNN are both out to get him now (DWS)...

If you don't believe me here's an eyewitness account... :

I also saw the clip "after" the ceremony where he checked his watch and hobnobed with Blinken as though he hadn't seen him for a month (which may be what you've been fooled by)

Face it..., Joe got caught showing his "empathy" is nothing but a facade... Your hero is a phony through and through...
