US Dept of Energy on COVID: Lab Leak Most Likely Cause

I feel like it was an instance of we didn't know what we didn't know. There was also a groundswell of xenophobia which prominent far-right wingers didn't help/exacerbated by labeling it the 'China-virus' or 'Wuhan flu.'

I agree that there were signs that it pointed to a lab leak being a strong possibility early on, but to prematurely state that with such strong conviction without iron-clad evidence - which most certainly did happen - didn't really help matters.
So f’n tired of this xenophobe bullshit. Started right off the bat when Trump stopped flights from China. Who the hell was right about that, Trump or the f’n wokes?

I don't know who you're thinking of, but around these parts, no one was accused of being a conspiracy theorist or anything else simply for suggesting the possibility of a lab leak. It was the wild claim that China unleashed it on purpose that drew criticism, and rightfully so.

Jamie and others apparently didn't comprehend the argument if they thought it being a lab leak was some kind of eat crow / gotcha moment.

Don't worry, the "Chinese Virus" (no racist overtones there....) would be gone by easter....especially for those injecting themselves with disinfectant lmao.

Trump was so right...err wrong.

That viewpoint really wasn't Xenophobic. It's factual and directed at China, not Asians. Perhaps right wingers used that as justification for an increase in Asian hate crimes, but I haven't seen as many news stories actually showing such. Much of the Asian hate crimes are being caused by other sects of society.

Was Trump right or wrong to stop flights when he did? Yes or no?!

Sure but it was too little, too late and doubt it changed much of anything.

Trump was wrong to try to hide it from the public when it might have actually mattered.

Between that and getting his sheep to act like Fauci and the CDC were the enemy makes anyone trying to defend Trump's actions laughable.

The Chinese don't give two shits about their people.
This is a generalization of a group of people, as written, that is unwarranted.

Even if you limit it to the government, it's not true. Of course they care about their people. Their ideas about what is right and wrong for them might be different from ours (and I think less beneficial and wrongheaded), but to say they just don't care about "their people" is false.

Not the enemy. Just incompetent. Probably negligent

What’s funny stupid? NYT did an entire piece on the cdc and their failings from delays, dirty labs, tests that didn’t work, to tracking failings. Negligence. You’re like a hyena with your cackling. An uniformed hyena. A dimwitted, uniformed, partisan, cackling hyena

Just laughing at your ignorance. Sheep gonna sheep and it is rather amusing.

The left thinks all Asians are Chinese.

Just like they think all Muslims live in only certain countries.

The PRC is an amazingly secretive country, almost up to North Korea levels of paranoia. It is reflexive to cover up anything that makes them look bad even if they aren't directly involved. We can't apply western standards to an organization that has no western mores.

I believe it is quite possible, even probable, China made a mistake. I am just suggesting even if they didn't they would immediately go into paranoid mode and cover up anything that may look bad.
That is so true. Just look at the airplane crash in China not too long ago and the NTSB determined that it was intentionally crashed but China could not admit that the last time I read anything about it.

If I was gonna release a virus intentionally the first thing I would do is to develop a vaccine and vaccinate my population (telling them it's for the flu or something similar) then release it.

I really do think he’s a kid working for the party. Intern or something. Young and dumb
Nah, he's just a wannabe. He's too stupid to articulate Dem positions or craft his own responses. He's just a parrot who repeats talking points and posts "Oh yeah, so are you" replies.

I don't think he's a kid, either. I think he's an adult who is looking for some kind of relevancy, but is too stupid to pull it off.

I guess he was a xenophobe for “restricting” flights.
No, he was a xenophobe for saying a Mexican judge couldn't be fair in his case, for saying all Mexican immigrants were murderers and rapists and for many other comments.

Maybe you should pay more attention

Show me a documented quote where Trump said ALL Mexican Immigrants were murderers and rapists. You lie just like Joe Biden when it fits your narrative.

Probably because Trump has a long history of xenophobic comments/actions/slurs.

Exactly the type of guy stoll thinks needs to be defended it seems
So whatever trump says you just presume the opposite. or get in line with the partisan take? why not think for yourself? think. for. yourself.

It’s all tiring. It’s not that hard to remember the outcry from your side when Trump “restricted” travel.
Actually, if you go back and look at our discussions, the vast majority on the left here said "Actually, that was a good idea, and perhaps even wasn't strong enough." Even OS liked it. Not everyone, of course. You can find one of the usual suspects calling it a "xenophobic talking point," but that's like attacking the right around here because of something Mas said.

Well President Wilson made no public comments about the WW1 flu. I would have called it the Spanish Flu, but I don't want to be labeled a white racist. Once a virus is out then there is no stopping it. That is science.

You know why it's called Spanish Flu? I'm sure you do, of course, but I ask anyway, just because I think the answer is interesting.

Kiss my ass. It is because the WW1 ships transports sent troops home from Spanish ports. What does that have to do with the narrative. That is just your leftist ass trying to justify your past positions.

and in reality the FBI and DOE say it is a leak. From US News:

Four agencies and a national intelligence panel said they believe the pandemic likely started with natural transmission from animal to human.

The remaining two agencies, which include the CIA, are still undecided.

So the jury is out. Anyone flatly declaring, either way, is peddling something.

Well, that would be the Biden administration. Administrators don't release statements without approval.

Sen. Tom Cotton, Arkansas Republican, tweeted that it doesn’t matter that the lab leak theory was “proven right.”
“What matters is holding the Chinese Communist Party accountable so this doesn’t happen again,” he said.
