Your alternative scenario destroys our institutions faster, would erode public trust even more, and leads us to a higher probability of an eventual civil war or dissolution.
No thanks.
Then what do you do? How do you counteract and purposefully fight back? The faith in traditional norms will right itself when challenged hasn't proven to warrant the faith and concern that is given to it.
Again parties are much more judged by the results they deliver than by trying to be validated by perceptions of a moral belief or value.
Decades ago that held much more weight but in these times it doesn't buy hardly anything especially with how both echo chambers are operating.
We're more in a cola war than an actual war. Which is why I'd ask the Dems to consider corporate style battles vs believing that the traditional norms will hinder any dirty political plays....cuz it hasn't and all we've tried to do is call out the behavior which hasn't impacted anything.
So fight and stop being shocked and appalled when traditional norms are strategically overruled.
So back to this pardon, I like that Biden basically said 'Yeah, I originally trusted the process but after seeing the loud, long established radical maga extremists that he's aggressively bringing in, I've changed my mind. If you're upset about it, Sorry, I don't give a f#$k, suck my d#$k'.
That's the kind of fight I want to see. Oh no, maybe Hannity will say something bad about Biden now....who gives a f#$k, I don't.
That's also why after the election I wanted Maga to control everything. If the Dems won the house than they've got someone to blame for any crisis that comes up and needs to be managed.
America chose, so let's see the results that come from it.
