Kelly on Trump

I don't know who will win this race, but man you guys are more confident than I would be in your shoes.
I actually do feel confident. You can’t hide inflation and immigration issues. Also, modern elections are information battles. X no longer being a left wing echo chamber has to be worth a point or two in elections is my working theory. We’ll find out in two weeks.

I wouldn’t even let @Baller23Boogie d#ck touch a fruit pie and he puts his in cheesecakes🤨

You have 3 options for pies: Pumpkin, Pecan, and Sugar Cream. That’s it.

he governed from the middle. He’s been indicted multiple times by Biden’s gov. Biden absconded with classified docs. No indictment. Biden tried to mandate vaccines. Biden’s speeches have been incredibly evil to half the country with his maga this and that. Let’s lock him up. Politically. Could go on and on. This fascism stuff falls on deaf ears bc it’s at once silly and hypocritical

Nate silver picked trump to win today
Groceries prices border and crime. Not this nonsense
No. Trump is talking about using the military to go after American citizens. This, historically, is the talk of despots and dictators in repressive regimes and shithole countries, but not the United States of America. It's unprecedented here.

The fact that Trump is clearly unfit for office is far more important than any policy issue.

Marge Schott has entered the discussion. I am sure Stalin did some good things, Charles Manson probably did some good things. What is the point of that mention, I bet every human does some good and some bad.
We aren’t talking about singing happy birthday here. Hitler did good things as dictator that has lasting positive effects.

lasting positive effects

Autobahn? He started it and made a little progress, but had to stop construction because it turns out he had other priorities.

Trains run on time? Not earth shattering. He did create the first national parks system in Germany. He created a child allowance, families received money for each child they had. Not exactly something I think you would love.

Dan Carlin discussed this in the context of the Mongols, saying that people discussing Mongol advancements do that and it downplays the evils. He thought that humanity in the future would do the same with Hitler. Hitler ushered in military rockets; he can't be that bad.

There is zero chance of that happening. Zero.

Policy is most important. Progressives are dangerous. Literally. Open borders. Defund. Etc. These are scary words.

John F. Kelly:

  • United States Marine Corps, retired Four-Star General
  • Gold Star Father
  • former Chief of Staff to President Trump
Much has been attributed to Kelly over the past few years about comments he reportedly heard Trump make. Kelly never denied the reports but never confirmed them - - until now. Trump's recent declarations that, in a second term, he will use the military against American citizens was the last straw for Kelly. "Even to say [that] for political purposes to get elected . . . is a very, very bad thing, let alone actually doing it," said Kelly.

Is American Exceptionalism dead? We'll soon find out.

This kind of stuff just reeks of desperation. I'm certainly no Trump fan by any stretch of the imagination. But, if this is indicative of their closing pitch, Kamala Harris is probably going to lose.

Typical Trump word garble. He talks about using the national guard or military to put down large scale violent protests (not something I agree with but not outside the Overton window of opinion), then people question him on what he means by the “enemy within” and he goes off running down his usual list of political enemies (Pelosi, Schiff, etc).

This gets bastardized into Trump will activate the military to mow down Democrats in the streets.

Democrats don’t even believe what they’re saying. It’s theatre.

It resonates with bowl and shooter and that type. It’s desperate as crazed said and dumb. If I were Harris I’d hammer home that I’m not Biden, fresh start for everyone, and if you hate your prices now wait until trump’s tariffs hit. I’m focused on bringing prices down. Whatever it takes. And getting that border tightened up

Isn't this an old story?

Trump mentally unstable and stupid isn't news.

Yeah, the “SAVE DEMOCRACY” bleating runs cold after a while.

Not even Bowl genuinely believes Trump will use the military on his own citizens.

That said, I fully expect a story like this to pop up pretty much every day until the election. It’s time to use everything you have. Crunch time.

I did read the post. Trump says stupid shit all the time.

So do you think he’d actually do that or not?
Again, the fact that he actually said this is a huge deal, irrespective of whether you're able or willing to recognize it.

But I'll go further. Trump wanted the military to blow through the crowd of protestors on the day he held up a bible in front of the church in DC. He drafted an executive order after the 2020 election authorizing the Pentagon to seize voting machines. He wanted to deploy troops to protect his supporters at his "will be wild" J6 rally. In each instance, he was talked out of this insanity by rational advisors who weren't yes-men and believed in loyalty to the Constitution rather than to an individual. He won't have guys like that in his inner circle this time around.

So you tell me.

And if we should take Trump seriously but never literally, then he gets a free pass on everything that comes out of his mouth. Zero accountability. That's utter bullshit.

It's General Kelly's "pitch," prompted by Trump's recent comments that he wants to use the military to go after American citizens.

If that doesn't concern you at all, I don't know what to tell you.

And you feel like he’d actually do that? Or are you just fear mongering?
This is an increasingly common defense of Trump. I've been hearing a lot of "you can't take everything he says seriously" or words to that effect. When should we take a President's or candidate's statements seriously and when shouldn't we? This is a strange thing.

It's also worth noting that it's totally unprecedented that so many former cabinet members and key staffers concur that their former boss is unfit for the office.

Well, that answers my question. You're trying to defend an indefensible statement by saying "you can't take what Trump says seriously."

People should be well aware of the kind of person Trump is. He's considered unfit by a very concerning number of his former cabinet and staffers. Even his own Vice President won't endorse him. These people know him well. Seems like very important information to have.

Trump mentally unstable and stupid isn't news.
It's well-known information for many of us and has been ignored or denied by MAGAs for a long time as well. Now they've heard it directly from General Kelly's own mouth rather than in an article (quoting him) or a book (quoting him). Cue MAGAs' smear campaign.

There are >200 other Republicans who worked for Trump who feel the same way
This. I don't know the number of people who have worked closely with DJT and deemed him unfit, but 3 would be too many.

All the best people? DJT's judgement of people/character is so bad, he should be deemed unfit.

All the best people are correct. And DJT is the SOB that hired them.

So everyone is just supposed to guess at what he is and isn't going to do? Some things we should take seriously but others we shouldn't. Is there a guide book you have and could share that deciphers this?
Gotta read the tea leaves.

She isn't actually gonna "give everyone $25K for a home, put price controls on grocers, tax unrealized gains, etc."

Sound familiar?

Yeah but applying the same logic as "Google me. I win." to Trump doesn't really work. I see a whole lot of losing. A little winning but mainly losing.
Do you really want the whole Country to be ran like Chicago and New York City?
