If you want to give money, give money to Hoosiers for Good

You get a free education(some better than others), free room and board, free weight training, free nutritionist and trainer along with the best training you can find for a future career in said sport. Yes I think college athletes are very well taken care of. A lot of kids wouldn’t be going to school without the scholarship
You're also getting the venues, the games, the tournaments, the officials, the TV and press exposure. What is your NIL worth without that? You're just a kid on the playground.

good discussion, I wish things were the way you envision how it should be or used to be, I just don't think that has been the reality
If I’m a student athlete in high school and I have offers all over the country I would place value on multiple things. For instance in football…ND offers world class education and has had most players drafted all time. That is a factor when choosing a school…the tuition is worth $250,000 plus over the 4 years alone.

Not gonna happen. Like football now, you are going to continue to see the same B10, B12, ACC, PAC12 and SEC teams dominating the playoffs with maybe an outlier team like UC getting in and blown out now and then. Program history and $$$ will dictate success more than it does today. You are going to see a limited number of 1 percenter programs and the rest... basically the Amazon's, Walmarts, Best Buys of college basketball eliminating any chance the smaller less notable "mom and pop" college programs trying to simply keep up. I don't watch the NBA now, I have no interest watching basically the same thing at the college level.
There’s only one conference dominating the CFB playoff.

If you’re a top prospect you should only have one thing on your mind…the NBA/NFL. That’s it. Nothing else. What college can prepare you and get you there. The top picks will make more in their rookie contract than the average Notre Dame grad will make in their entire career.

And if it doesn’t work out athletically being a well known player for a big state school will do more for your career than a sheepskin from Harvard.

Damn I agree with you. The rules in place are a waste of money and time to top ten prospects. Plus they risk injury in college.

I strongly disagree here. Look how many 5 star busts there are out there.

Define bust? Romeo Langford to many is considered a "bust" and will have netted $16.5 million by the time he turns 23. Bet he's in the top 1% of earners his age with a college degree regardless of where they went to school. He'll get a second contract somewhere and make another $10mil+ when all said in done. At 25 he's better off than any college grad can hope to be in a lifetime.

Don't overthink this.

A first round pick isn’t a bust. I’m talking the kids coming out of high school as a Five star who never pan out. Example would be Columbus South Gunner Kiel a 5 star qb. Also is it to early to dub Lander as one? This was in response to Frepaufh saying you shouldn’t worry about the education if you are an elite high school kid

you should balance education and professional aspirations, I'm of the opinion pro players are born, Ja Morant proves you don't have to go to Duke to make it in the NBA

That is what I’m saying…you can’t just say I’m a one done because I’m a five star and my only reason to go to “x” university because of an NIl deal. Or I’m a five star QB and same scenario.

I think it will do the reverse. NBA viewership is down and so will college when it becomes free agency power teams
This is my fear as well. I became an IU fan because of a connection to the players. I grew up and loved watching the Calbert led teams of the early 90’s. I am afraid this is going to just turn into continual free agency where you won’t know from one season to the next who is playing for who. How do you stay connected to that??

Coach he is a bust compared to where he was ranked coming out of high school, I would be willing to bet about 90 percent of top 5 players the last 25 years at a minimum become solid rotational players in the NBA, Romeo is languishing at the end of the bench and was basically given away by Boston. And if he is to get a 2ND contract, he better step-up big time next year or the pro teams will move on to the next Romeo, he is definitely not a bust in life but if you asked him or his dad 4 years ago if he would be an afterthought on the spurs bench, they would have laughed at you. at best Hes 50/50 to get a 2nd contract

I think that's everyone's fear, need to let it play out a couple of years

I’m curious what will happen at places like Gonzaga, Villanova, texas tech. Places that have won with great coaching and drawing some top talent because of the coach. Now with NIl money, these programs may see the coaches leave or retire…Jay Wright.

I got a text from a few people asking about if we should anticipate a player transferring because of the craze on peegs. I don't read that garbage, but got pulled in today. HOLY SHIT. I cannot believe how many stupid people. (actually never mind America never shocks me on its stupidity) are giving money to the clown hysterics. They are cryptic posting that it is possible that someone leaves. Could it be JG??? Could it be Tamar?? That Eric guy is a rich attention whore and I wish he would move to Japan. Way more money than the normal fan, yet he solicits the public to give to his fund, that has zero transparency. These guys are complete clowns.

You want to give money and have it go to a specific athlete? DM me. You want to give in general for the greater good? Give to Hoosiers for Good. Think about drinking bleach before empowering those clowns tho.
Have Eric move to China. That'll shut him up.

Easy. Just because you are 5 star doesn’t mean you are elite. Top 30 isn’t. Top 10-15 is generally the 1 and done elite crowd. You named 2 kids who were never projected as elite.

5 stars are elite. You just want to argue to argue. I just gave 2 examples of two kids from Indiana who were considered elite coming out of high school. Gunner was a 5 star qb

Show us then. Top 30 5 stars aren’t guaranteed. Top ten now those generally are way ahead of everyone else. Gunnar had question marks from day one. Flip flopped decisions. Football is a bit different.

I am of the same agreement, lost a lot of interest in MLB because of the same thing. You never know who the players are from yr to yr. Ostensibly you are rooting for the team. I was always a Red Sox fan and back when we didnt get all the games on to watch but you knew Yaz and Jim Rice and Dwight Evans were there. The Red Sox had 3 left fielders in 47 yrs at one point.

Regardless we are talking about highly recruited kids. With NIL they will be making decisions off that vs education

Give money to the Varsity Club.

Who is playing for who?

They are all now playing for the same team, team NIL $.

I realize that and didnt see Ted play, Didn't see yaz in left , 1st base. Ted is my favorite player though, best hitter ever, fighter pilot in two wars and Bobby Knights Fishing buddy. I still wonder about that trip to USSR to fish the two of them made.

NIL doesn't create less players, those schools will be fine, Duke and Kentucky have been basically splitting the top 10 players in the country for the last 15 years.

My dad was born in dorchester, favorite player ever was Yaz. I’ll name a dog that one day for him.

i was a right field guy. My favorite player ever was Trot Nixon. Named my current dog after him. His hat was always dirty and his mouth was always full of chew. My kinda guy.

Statistically it’s very small. A college degree is incredibly overrated these days. It helps with your first job but after that no one asks or cares about where a 30 or 40 year old went to college or what they studied. Success in life has 0.0001% to do with a degree. And these kids have a chance to make generational wealth before they’re 30. That should be their sole focus.

Incredibly dumb. He will have enough money by the time he’s 25 to live 5 lifetimes if he manages it right. That’s not a bust to anyone except selfish IU fans.

no, you are too stupid to comprehend what I said
He was a lottery pick and will make $5.6 million next year. There are people who spend 10 years in college and graduate medical school who will never make that in a career. He’s not a bust.

never said he hasn't made a lot of money, or will end up on the streets, I said he is a bust compared to the expectations placed on him coming out of high school BASKETBALL wise, not financially and not as a human being.

Another way to look at it Fepaugh I bet Boston when they drafted Romeo in the lottery thought if we can get about 2 to 3 points a game out of him for 3 and half years, we will have pulled off one of the great steals in the NBAs draft history. They felt so guilty about what they done they thought it would only be fair to give him away to help the league maintain competitive balance.
