If you want to give money, give money to Hoosiers for Good

That hasn’t happened enough to matter. A&M always has a top 5 class. Wonder why? Pay for frigin pay isn’t new. The top will still be top. That won’t change. What has changed is the lower kids get something too. You must be blind.
What are you talking about? Never in our history have we seen this. Nigel pack was just poached by Miami for a 2 year deal worth $800k plus a Yukon Denali. USC just offered huge money to Addison to transfer there. Kids have never been given this kind of money.

Chris Weber got 300k and that was what 30 years ago? Inflation adjusted that's probably near a million in todays money

How could you possibly control it? Now instead of assuming someone is cheating everyone is on the same playing field. If you want Indiana University to have a good basketball team, it will have to be paid for.
Well for one set some rules to it.
- NIL cannot be offered until after a player chooses a school (eliminates highest bidder)

why? best way to stop cheating is to have fewer rules, and it would be impossible to enforce what you're saying. And what is wrong with a kid having an idea what he can earn, would you start a new job with the promise of will figure your salary out down the road. College sports no longer exist its professional here on out.

Then they need to pull the scholarships, quit making them take classes and make them employees of the school.

That’s still not that many and you forgot the million dollar deal Duke got away with Zion. They only got caught paying him 50k cash but he got a house and cars. If you think this is new you must think kids are brought by a stork. 🤦🏻

Have teams cheated on the past yes. Is what is going on always happened? No it hasn’t.

Ughhh. Yes it has. Always has. UCLA paid big bucks for teams. Are this obtuse?
Smh ok buddy. Have you seen the comments of coaches, ex players on this? Most are calling this entire system broke and out of control. Coaches are calling coaches and ripping them. It’s turning into a mess.

It’s because the jig is up. The ones cheating now have to compete. They didn’t before. Most high majors have dabbled or just flat out paid.

So let’s say Hood comes in and averages 12 and 6 as a freshman. You have no issue with UK calling him and offering a 1 million NIL deal?

For one UK and IU will be competing for players like everyone else. The Pack deal is more of an exception not the rule. Miami booster will look dumb if Pack doesn’t pan out. UK had the #1 player sit all year. They won’t make that mistake again. The market is still stabilizing.

You didn’t answer my question

Would I be upset? Yes. Would I blame him for taking the money? No! Is it likely to happen? No. Is that good enough?
My point is you have to set some rules for it. If are enrolled at a university you can’t go and just poach guys because your team needs a stretch 4 or a QB. So the rules will need to be set for the Portal and active players. Pitt has the best WR in country returning and USC is offering him crazy NIL money. To me this is where the shit needs to stop.

You don’t get it either. There has always been rules. Those rules get pushed and broken. Schools, boosters, etc. never cared about rules. If they did they were losing.

I get it just fine. Like I said they need to set some rules or this will all blow up in a bad way.

what rules do you want them to set? In your career are you able to change jobs at your own free will? I guess everyone wants things to be like they used to, but the old days are over, college sports are big business. You made a comment about kids not taking classes that makes no sense, if a kid wants to take advantage of a free education more power to him. UK Duke Kansas will still dominate college basketball the only difference is every other school in the country will have the opportunity to compete if they are willing to pay. I would say within in a couple of years the average salary of a iu basketball player will be north of a million a year.

there are rules. Just no cap on how much someones NIL is worth, as there should not be.
Who is enforcing them? The Pack deal shouldn’t ever happen, kids shouldn’t be free agents in this once they step on a college campus. I’m sorry you guys think this is great but it really isn’t.

Non compete’s come into play in the business world.

And I guarantee they will change how it is working. They have to.
Who is “they”? NCAA sanctioning body just got their a$$es handed to them. The courts took their teeth away for good reason. All for me none for thee is over. As it should be.

So you are ok with basically no governing body? Ncaa will be gone. You are happy about that?

I don't think it's great, but it is reality. If you were a D1 athlete I bet you would like it. There was nothing better than watching sr. night speeches when RMK was the coach, Kids that came in an developed over 4 years graduated and told their stories. Then you had the one and done era, now this with NIL and the portal, from a fans perspective it kind of sucks . What we always believed NCAA basketball was about is all but dead. On the bright side we can no longer bitch we lost a kid to UK because they paid him

I was a D1 athlete. I think this needs to be governed or it will destroy locker rooms and programs

Yes. The alternative wasn’t working. The courts did these kids a favor. To much money wasn’t going to the right places. So you are ok with the way it was? The ncaa didn’t seem to care about UK, KU, UNC and Duke blatant cheating. The courts saw the shady deals and took care of it. Now those deals are no longer shady.

They did them a favor? I disagree. They are learning nothing in this except to have your hand out.

Next time you go to a concert try to walk in without paying see how far you get. Maybe you think people should perform for you for free but that just isn't how the world works.

This is where we disagree. They are not playing for free now

Well the poaching players to the highest bidders is not a positive to the game. A&M just signed a record recruiting class because they bought it. This isn’t good for an amateur game.
No it certainly is not it will basiaclly just be another NBA at some point. Pretty soon we can quit calling them sutdent athletes

you think the scholarship is enough compensation? The courts disagree, I don't have the answer. Something you said earlier about coaches being pissed, I say good, they had too much power over kids' lives in the past

You get a free education(some better than others), free room and board, free weight training, free nutritionist and trainer along with the best training you can find for a future career in said sport. Yes I think college athletes are very well taken care of. A lot of kids wouldn’t be going to school without the scholarship

a lot of them shouldn't be with the scholarship, You think TJD and Tim Priller should earn the same? go back and watch an old Georgetown vs Houston game and tell me who from Kansas this year would start for either team. In the long run this will keep players in school longer and lead to a better product

I look at it different than you. Oh well
