I think that is true but I still don't think it's right and it has nothing to do with Biden. In general, I just don't agree with pardons unless it appears that a real miscarriage of justice has occurred.
And he probably thought there was something there to dig up. I think it's better to do a blanket pardon rather than spending time and money for the next few years prosecuting him for something that could never be definitely proved.
I'm not really interested in getting in a pissing match about how bad neighborhoods are. Your idea of college towns is made up of some combination of watching Fox News and bad movies. You do have your far-left leaning people, but it's not all like that. For a rural Appalachian town, it's fairly diverse, thanks to the University. The way it's played out, I'm glad my kids have grown up in DC and where we are now. Two wildly different perspectives and experiences.
I think this has more to do with it than most want to give it credit for. Going after Hunter Biden is the sort of low-hanging fruit/red meat he could deliver to his base relatively quickly. I'm not saying Hunter Biden is free from sin - I'm fully assuming that he's a eff-up with a serious substance abuse problem - but there was a little doubt Trump would want to dig up something on him so he could flaunt that he went after "the Biden crime family."
Or the cynic might say that by doing this, it also shuts down investigations that could lead back to Joe and his brother.
It's a no win situation. As a dad, I understand why he did and just assumed a pardon was coming one way or another despite all the fuss to the contrary. He was due to be sentenced this month on the tax evasion and gun charges.
I think the sweeping pardon has more to do with what Goat said. Biden wanted to spare his son from Trump's DOJ spending time digging anything they could up on his son for the next several years and then holding up whatever they could dig up as proof that he held 'the Biden crime family' accountable.
The standard I 'require' from Biden's accusers is something several accusations against Trump have: credible proof and in some cases convictions. Saying that 'you just know' something or you 'think' something is a certain way without any real proof isn't really common sense - it's wishful thinking bordering on conspiracy theory. Don't you have your law degree?
And try all you want, you won't get an 'emperor has no clothes' moment on Joe Biden from me. Yes, I voted for the guy, but mostly because he wasn't Trump. That's largely where my enthusiasm and loyalty ends with him. I think he did some good things as president and he didn't do any irrevocable damage. In 100 years kids will miss an extra credit question about the one-term president who served as Barack Obama's VP. If actual, real, provable crimes are exposed put him and jail and throw the key away for all I care.

I absolutely did write that. And yes, Hunter Biden is guilty of crimes. And he's a f*$k up. I've said that multiple times in this thread. I also never defended Job Biden going back on his 'above the law' comment.
So, to your point, we agree that Hunter Biden is likely going to skate on crimes.
For what it's worth I do think it at least crossed Biden's mind that he didn't want Trump to hammer his son over the next several years. I'm not saying it absolves anything, but as a father I can see why he might want to shield his son from that. Like others here, I get it.
