Lloyd Austin surprisingly announced that the US policy is now to degrade Russia’s military so it can’t invade again. Not a good message to deliver to Putin. A Worse thing to say when a more strident Russian will be in charge while Putin is under the knife and said Russian speaks of missile attacks on Ukrainian decision centers and decision makers with a side order of Berlin, Paris, and London thrown in.

Trump says that negotiations are way overdue and that the chance of a negotiated outcome is less each day the war goes on.

Norm Chomsky said Trump is the only adult in the room.

Norm Chomsky is right on this one. Lloyd Austin needs to keep his trap shut. He is, or maybe already has, pushing Russia over the edge. I don’t think we would be here if Trump were POTUS.

Carrot and stick, Austin is showing 5he stick. We have the resolve to supply Ukraine until the last Russian soldier is dead.

The choice on when to end the war is entirely on Ukraine, what are they willing to accept. We have almost no say in that. Nor should we.

Even I do not think Trump would have pressured Ukraine into giving a land bridge to Crimea. I am amazed you think Trump would have caved on that point

Wait. Is this the same Noam (not "Norm") Chomsky, age 93, who a few years ago referred to Trump as "the worst criminal in human history?"

Love that thread title, too. Your obsession with Trump is not healthy.

When I read the title I thought for sure this was one of Rockfish’s bball threads.

In the last several days, the highest ranking legislator in our government and our secretary of Defense said our objective is to see a Ukrainian victory and to so degrade Russian military that it will be years before it can do this again. If those are worthy objectives, we should not announce either one to Putin. We can’t be predictable.

I have no clue about your land bridge comment. I never heard Trump speak about that.

Russia wants a land bridge to Crimea, if you do not know that you lack sufficient knowledge to take part in this discussion. If that is Putin's goal, Trump could have stopped the war by ensuring said land bridge.

Maybe. Putin is way beyond the land bridge. We are way beyond the land bridge too. Austin and Pelosi showed the world that the US has now escalated this thing by intertwining our interests with Ukraine. I don’t think Trump would have ever gotten to this point.

Now that you have checked off your snark, do you have any important comment?
Yes. You're quoting someone without knowing his actual name. And the person you're quoting in defense of Trump is a nonagenarian who referred to Trump two and a half years ago as the "worst criminal in human history."

You're becoming increasingly difficult to take seriously.

.
Putin continually threatens the West about supporting Ukraine. The publicly announced objective to weaken Russia simply is telling Putin the West is going to support Ukraine as long as it takes. In other words, it’s telling Putin to think twice about extending the war. The West absolutely has the upper hand here. Putin knows it. This is another PR win for the Biden administration as much as that roils your brains and frustrates your ulterior objectives in this thread and in your life.

Agreed. Putin seized the opportunity we made available.

How did we make it available? I know you are mad at Biden for not calling Ukraine and demanding a criminal investigation for all the aid we are giving them as you think that is how foreign policy works. Like Churchill calling France demanding dirt on Chamberlain or France could face Germany by iteself.

Last clear chance rule, you are blaming Biden and not Putin. Putin is to blame, end of story
No its Biden...Clearly he failed miserably and The Don didn't. Funny video was Trump telling Germany he will own you while they all laughed. Gee who's laughing now.

What do you think it take For Putin to target and obliterate the governmental infrastructure in Kyiv? Given Austin’s and Pelosi’s remarks, what does he have to lose at this point?

We presented him with a feckless senile POTUS who gave Putin what he wanted in energy and who showed a willingness to ignore military advice among other things. We also gave him a Secretary of State who wilted in his very first meeting with the Chinese. In other words, he is looking at the Keystone cops.

senile POTUS

We traded one senile president for another, how on earth does that matter.

willingness to ignore military advice among other things

Unlike the President who REPEATEDLY said he knew more about the military than the generals? By the way, that same guy YOU supported for trying to shake down Ukraine on military aid for political help. That certainly didn't show US commitment to Ukraine now did it?

Putin may lose your support... :)

This senile POTUS is a lot less dangerous than the other one.

CoH, found the following in your thread to be most interesting,

Norm Chomsky is right on this one. Lloyd Austin needs to keep his trap shut. He is, or maybe already has, pushing Russia over the edge. I don’t think we would be here if Trump were POTUS.

All during the Cold War, as went from from one administration to another, our foreign policy in respect to dealing with Russia and communism remained fairly consistent. Furthermore, spokespersons from the Senate, military, State Department, etc.. all followed the same script. An exception may have been when General Douglas MacArthur suggested using nuclear weapons against China during the Korean conflict and was fired by President Truman.

Now compared to the Cold War... Putin sees a politically divided country looking to a new leader and wanting its military leaders to change course. In addition Putin sees his threats of missile attacks to be further dividing us. Who is going to go over the edge, our electorate or Putin ?

We wouldn't be here if Trump were POTUS because he would still be working hard to dismantle NATO for Putin.

Putin wasn't worried about NATO when his lapdog was running our country.

If Trump were still President, Putin wouldn't have invaded Ukraine and cost 30000 Ukrainian & Russian lives (so far) and 5 million refugees. And the US taxpayer untold billions of $s.

You can see and determine events of alternate timelines with unfailing accuracy?

Are you Nostradumbass?

More than likely, if Trump were still president, then he would be taking orders from putin on how best to continue his dismantling of NATO.

You continually support a man over and over who on any ranking of presidents you can find is considered the third or fourth worse in history with only Buchanan, Johnson (Andrew), and Pierce below him. And in the years to come will be also considered the most corrupt president ever.

Agreeing with his policies is your right but you choose to ignore actual facts Trump increased the national debt $7.8 trillion in his 4 years, submitted in 2020 the largest spending bill in American history and played golf 307 days of his term. Only 4 year president since Hoover 90 years ago losing the house, senate and presidency in the process. He lied about a disease that has killed over 900,000 people (its really bad, its a killer Bob), lied about a stolen election for a year, wanted to shoot protesters in the legs, had 10 people he appointed involved in his presidency who were charged with a felony (want their names, Manafort-Flynn-Gates-Bannon etc.) 6 cabinet members resigned for unethical conduct, gave a speech to a mob to march on the capital, and then sat on his fat behind for three hours watching it on TV while they broke down doors and windows, urinated on the walls and crapped on the floor. And worse of all in that process became the first president ever to attempt to overturn an election that some how does not seem to matter to you.

I would like to think you are a better person than that.

And sadly you still missed most of the crap Trump did.
