His options were to beg players from the previous coach to come back, or likely replace them with even less talented transfers/recruits. Plus Johnson, the best transfer IU did get probably wouldn't have come had their been more turnover. That's the problem with the "burn it all down" and rebuild crowd. The best transfers are likely not going to go to a school where half the roster is leaving. They're going to go to schools that are already solid/stable or 1 or 2 players from being that way.
So yes, Woodson played a role in building this roster, but he was highly limited in what he could do. He'll start to own roster makeup next
