Is DeSantis the future President-for-Life?

Ford Maverick hybrid. After the Bronco debacle I get what I deserve for ordering a new Ford roll out model.
haha. Good Luck. Guy at work has been hunting one as well. Looks like a really nice small truck though (something they've kinda forgotten a lot of people liked).

Mittens would have been a great President. Unfortunately he was in the wrong cycle running against Obama who was not going to be beat by anyone.
And yet, Trump got many millions more votes than Obama.

Doesn't change the fact Trump got a helluva lot more votes than Obama ever got.
So what? You brought it up in response to Twenty saying that no one was possibly going to beat Obama in 2012. The fact that Trump got so many votes in a losing effort eight years later isn't really much of an argument against Twenty's original proposition.

The fact Trump was able to get so many more votes than one of the most popular Presidents of our time merits a 'so what' when Twenty says there's no way anyone was going to beat Obama in 2012?

It certainly shows if Republicans had run someone who was actually popular within the Republican Party, they could have drawn more votes.

You are struggling with your post.

In my research to correct myself, I noticed how many votes that Mittens pulled. I was shocked. Your point, although I wasn't totally following to begin with, is found to be correct :) . Just think if there had been an honest representative of America running in 2012. To paraphrase some one in another thread, just think what COULD have been 10 years ago.
OH, F@#$ Mittens.

Bill Clinton got more votes in either of his elections than Reagan did in 1980. Figure out why that's meaningless, then apply it to your own post, and see if you can't figure it out on your own.

If you were old enough, you'd realize the media hated Reagan. The only reason he won against Carter was because the economy was as ****ed up then as it is now, only with higher interest rates.

The reason he beat Mondale was because Mondale was dull as a post. And he had Geraldine as his VP candidate who was Kamala-dumb.

Clinton, on the other hand, lied out his ass about the Bush economy and the media promoted the lie. Clinton was younger and Bush came off as a fuddy-duddy. After 12 years of Republican Presidencies, the nation was going for a change, and there is no denying Clinton's personal appeal

Given the situations, Clinton could easily have beaten Reagan - I would say probably would have - in both 1980 and 1984, but particularly in 1980.

Romney was as much of a stiff as Mondale and the media was on him for breathing. While he would have made a very good President, he had no great appeal to the public. Republicans could have beaten Obama if they'd run someone with a personality and without Romney's arrogance.

Trump, whether you admit it or not, had charisma and a very good record. Covid did him in. Someone like him - a Desantis, say - could have beaten Obama and it's obvious with the number of votes he got in 2020.

@TheOriginalHappyGoat I know both sides will denigrate each other’s sources until no end. But an op-Ed from Business Insider, seriously? The same rag that did that hit piece on Portnoy?

edit: wasn’t their founder convicted of securities fraud?
Beats me. I was following the apparent expertise of the academic cited, which I have already admitted in another thread was a mistake.

Also, I just thought it was an interesting topic. Everyone is so scared of Trump, but maybe he isn't the most dangerous guy, and I thought this argument was worth thinking about, that's all.

Utter nonsense. The media fawned over Reagan. His "Great Communicator" reputation was largely a function of the adulatory news coverage he received. Sure, there was an outlier or two like Sam Donaldson, but news outlets (CBS News, for example) reined in reporters (Lesley Stahl, for example) who got too rough. The term "Teflon president" was coined for him and, as his communications director David Gergen said, "A lot of the Teflon came because the press was holding back."

It would be nice if you got your facts straight, for once.

You continue to embarrass yourself with your backtracking. "Oh, I was just following the experts". Yeah, the experts that are continually wrong.

Fawned over Reagan? That's rich! Go back and watch some old SNL skits.

Ronald "Ray Guns? He was going to get us into WWIII when he walked away from a nuclear arms agreement with the Soviet Union.

You and Goat - but I repeat myself - cannot rewrite history, although you try.

David Gergen and Lesley Stahl? LOL

So SNL, political satire, supports your baseless argument that the "media hated Reagan?" That's hilarious! And I have no idea what you're talking about re Ronald "ray guns" on SNL. I do recall, though, Dan Aykroyd frequently impersonating - - and mocking - - Jimmy Carter.

I quoted Reagan's Communications Director. You, as usual, have nothing. And you just make it worse when you double down on your stupidity.

Silly because you don't think the case can be made that DeSantis is truly an autocrat at heart, or silly because you trust American democracy is strong enough to withstand any such person?

I don't really follow the betting markets, but I looked it up after you mentioned that. You can currently buy Ted Cruz to NOT be the nominee for 98 cents on the dollar? I know it takes a lot of bets to make 2 cents add up to anything, but isn't that basically just free money? Who is buying Yes on that one?
No, silly because it's looney. America will be lucky to survive the current Biden Administration, and we don't even know who's running it. Anyone can see the damage they are doing ....anyone but a screaming liberal who is disconnected from reality. So, continue with your wild fantasy scenario(s). The rest the country will continue its struggle to survive the current crazy and inept administration. You know, the one you, and you and your "Caravan of Fools," elected.

You're an idiot. Aykroyd made fun of Carter's accent.

I didn't say he was called Ronald "ray guns" on SNL. He was called that by the media.

Your knowledge of history only goes back to 2016 - it's obvious you know nothing that went on before that.

I love how NOW Reagan is so beloved.

The libs treated him like they treat Trump now. In fact, they treat every Republican President that way - they're stupid, autocratic, want to destroy democracy, are racist, hate women, etc., etc., etc.

Their act has grown old and people recognize it for what it is - nothing but political whining.

You are wasting all the good shots.
No practice swings either.
Do you still have to special order PXG?
No, but you should do a fitting with their reps. They bring out trackmans and tracers and everything. I told him the goal was to maximize forgiveness / minimize spin and I’ll do the rest. The PXG 0811 XF was the winner. But he had me move back a degree in loft (to 10.5) and we went through a couple of shaft weights until we found one that produced rockets. The shop has everything we needed.

Maybe the gop should stop trying to find the biggest asshole and trying to make them president.

The Reagan bashing was a lot worse than what Trump gets simply beacuse he didn't deserve 85% of it.

Speaking of SNL, why won't they touch Harris, the border, riots, ANTIFA, Afghanistan and other esy targets?

Yeah, all this 'good old Ronnie' posts 40 years later. What a ****ing joke.

Democrats tried their usual scare tactics on him and have and every Republican candidate since. If Jimmy Carter hadn't been such a disaster, Reagan would not have won in 1980.
