Why do I feel like Biden is going to lose?

The problem isn’t who’s running. The problem is us. The people casting votes. Look around at the store, gas station, work. Half these people vote. You’d like to think it’s the good half. Probably not. Remember that enough people voting at this point (and mos def in primaries) basically regard elections as an extension of the NFL. Tribalism, etc.

There’s some truth to that but come on, who’s running is absolutely a problem. Two unlikeable geriatrics.

The American electorate has to be held responsible at some point. Now seems like a good time. These geriatric tools had to win primaries and elections. We could always choose somebody else.

Instacart jacks prices up more then 30%.

I can get kraft string cheese at my Kroger for $3.99. That same string cheese on instacart in my area goes for $6.59.

Go into an actual store and groceries are cheeper.
I just used that. The actual prices are $6 at my grocery store dierbergs. In store. Over $10 for the big pack

How do we hold the electorate responsible in a way different than living with the consequences? Can we fire them?

Ironically. The answer is something progressives won’t like. It’s to revert our voting laws back to something more similar to what they were after the founding,

To be eligible you must be a property owner and/ or pay x amount in taxes. Maybe look at raising the age as well or Vivek’s idea of having to pass a citizenship test

Skin in the game is essential. Too many voters that just take or see politics as some sort of game.

When you allow any idiot who survived 18 trips around the sun to vote, please do not complain when you get stuck with any idiot.

Neither are accurate.

Real estate hasn't doubled in less than 3 years

On the average across all real estate types, and only accounting for the sales price, you are right. But in modestly desirable areas (suburbia/rural with decent schools and services), home prices have gone up 80% or more. Anecdotally, my modest home in east central Indiana was around 130k 1/21 and is now 225k range here in 1/24. And these are just home prices, not the actual "costs:". When considering Interest rates have nearly tripled for a 30 yr fixed since 1/21 as well as sharp increases in insurance rates, you are paying well over double the cost for a home now as compared to 3 years ago.

Heard on NPR today (short version): On the issue of who is a threat to democracy, Biden wins big, because Democrats and most independents agree with him. He also wins big because among people who are single-issue voters re: protecting democracy, he dominates Trump. It should be easy to see why he wants to keep playing that same song. It's a crowd favorite.

It just feels to me like most voters want more. Maybe we're fickle. Maybe we have a short attention span. But we already did Trump. The nation survived him once. Biden saved us from him once. Maybe the threat just doesn't seem that big anymore. Biden has a record now to run on. I just don't see this as a winning campaign:

Biden will not be the nominee. Otherwise, yes, he would lose.

Because homes are nearly twice as much as when he took office and string cheese is over $6. People don’t get into the minutiae. The threat to democracy appeals to academics not plumbers. Biden is a terrible, terrible president who is too old and needs to go. The incomprehensible thing is that trump is the other option. Hopefully something derails trump and Haley (who I don’t like) is our next president. And perhaps she will be the sane vanilla bridge that we had hoped Biden would be to someone good (pub or Dem).

4 years of not much cookin would be welcomed
Haley??? Wow

Biden has no control over the fed who handles rates. They’re autonomous. I believe any improvement is in spite of Biden not because of Biden. Biden wanted to be transformative and we saw his predilections. And I see no one worth a shit in the Jan window heading to United. Bitch
You meant the fed is supposed to be autonomous. They clearly are not, imo.

Seems like it would have to be a grassroots movement. More folks supporting and getting involved w level-headed candidates starting careers at the local, state levels. Maybe kinda like building a Major League Baseball team prior to the free agency era. Need a good farm system?

This threat to democracy is such baloney. But I guess that’s all Biden has. The 10 months of his ignorant black scary adds. He deserves to lose.

I don’t like Haley either. Biden is a nonstarter. And I get people who think trump is too crazy and lost. So what’s left. Haley
Sure wish Vivek had a chance. Nearly everything he says is great. Now, does he mean the words he says? I love to see if he is real. Certainly, over any of these other idiots. On either team.

I've said this before, but it depends on where you live.

I just went to the grocery store this morning. My youngest, who for some reason, wanted some string cheese. I immediately thought of this thread and smiled a bit.

We got ours for $3.99 for a 12 count. She probably won't eat it, but that's for another day. Maybe her sister will see it and start to snack on it.

Or, I don't know..... paper ballots only on election day would be fine with me.

I heard a stat the other day - half of the people in Pennsylvania had voted by mail before Oz and Fetterman actually debated. That's the kind of shit that needs to stop. Having such a long voting period just invites ignorant voting and corruption.

Not with our current HR dept, no.

Honestly, there’s too much money in politics. Engagement by the public is an inch deep and a mile wide. Constant ads that turn people off. Election seasons lasting a year turns people off. And, as I said before, tribalism. Now that is the politicians fault. They rarely turn on people in their own parties. WHY IS MENENDEZ STILL IN THE SENATE?

Maybe a few more Fettermans wouldn’t hurt.

You mean why do Democrats rarely turn on their own.

I was ready to 'like' your post until you called for a few more Fettermans. One moment of lucidity doesn't mean he's become normal.

He’s had a few. Maybe his perspective is changing along with his looks. And no chance Russia invades Ukraine. Not with that mustache. It’s almost Siberian. Putin would know

Every one at both groceries $6 for the small pack.

Quit buying name brand cheese, you dope. Unless you have legitimate reasons you can't leave your home quit shopping on Instacart. It appears your problem is laziness and not knowing how to shop at a grocery store.

Let me fill you in on a place called ALDI then. The prices are low and the cougars and milfs are plentiful. Just don't forget a quarter and some reusable bags.

Nearly half. Here 40 percent. Other areas half or more. Calif, parts of so fla. I don’t say something unless it’s accurate.

LOL

You said real estate has doubled, then linked two articles talking about interest rates and payments, where the quoted increase was 40%. 40% isn't double.

Neither article supports what you said.

My hack is going to Walmart 10am on Mondays. The timing is key because the one near us is a hellscape at all other daytime hours. I’m a meat, vegetable, fruit snob so go elsewhere for that but who cares when it’s dairy or pantry stuff. Plus, I’m now an old, so my fully expressed frugality genes are soothed w each visit.

lol...the argument over the cost of cheese sticks has now moved to number 1 on my list of funniest things the WC have argued about. While were on the topic, what's the best cheese stick brand?
