Walker in Georgia

Republicans are closing HARD! Please make an effort to attend the live results thread on election night and be present the days immediately following election night.

I would like you to answer for your constant prognostications if necessary.
Sorry Dude, but I'll be working the polls in person on election day, starting at 5 am. I imagine I'll see my share of wingnuts in person thruout the day, so no way in hell I'm going to subject myself to dealing with this board's version of same.

I like most of the Republicans I've been paired with during the past couple weeks of early voting on a personal level, but they are by and large looney tunes...Never been around so many people who are convinced we are living in the end of days, and converse about it repeatedly. It's a little freaky...

We’re screwed. Now we know election fraud is real. Shit. 4 more years of Dems

Add this one. that is D +2. Call him batshit crazy all you want he is likely going to win even in the first go around. This board should be alot of fun if that happens.

He could win on election day, but he's going to have a pretty large deficit to make up. And he's going to have to hope the Libertarian candidate drops out...

You be there tomorrow? I'm planning on swinging by after work, say around 3:30.

You talk about your political affiliations with your fellow poll workers? Isn’t that against some sort of rule?

In my experience those who think everyone around them are “looney toons” are often the one with the problem.

That's right before they start stuffing the ballot box with tons of votes while the they tell the other person to look over there

Not sure what you mean? We are split into D and R, and every station has 1 of each. There are also 4 leads, 1 D and 1 R who work mornings and 1 D and r who work afternoons. Each individual is scheduled by their respective lead, and surprisingly we all get along.

Prior to you casting your ballot, the envelope has to have the signatures and initials of both the R and D who are checking you out. Only then can you deposit it in the ballot box, after we both sign and initial the sealed envelope and hand it back to you. I have no idea how early voting works elsewhere, but that is how it is done in Indiana...

So today I get to the second station where they print and initial the ballot; maybe 60-something Asian lady and a 50-something white guy greet me, and the lady says "I've seen you before". I look her dead in the eye and say "Yeah, I was here earlier this week." Guy starts explaining how to fill in the ballot. I say "Yeah, same way I did it Monday." By now they're losing it, said "okay, you know how it works" and just wave me away.

That's actually the station I worked till 1pm today, at printer #2. I know the woman you're talking about (she's the R), but I'm not sure which guy you saw. She's a very nice lady, but from hanging with her in the break room she's pretty steeped in conspiracy theories...

We had a guy today who deadpanned something like" Can I get a 2nd ballot now?" earlier this am. At first I thought he wanted to give it to someone else (wife), and started to explain that wasn't possible. Then we realized he was kidding, and he made a reference to hearing (on tv) that everyone was voting twice, in an obvious slam towards Trump that my R partner sort of brushed off.

But after he moved on, she still said something like " I know a lot of people don't think there were any irregularities in the last election, but I just know there were some suspicious things that happened". It's been a constant refrain from every R I've worked with- they are just convinced that somehow Biden cheated.

Just shows you how powerful and pervasive right wing media has been on amplifying Trump's Big Lie, as before that our conversation has consisted of talking about our dogs and a friend of mine that she knows as well. And what's really shocking is that they expect everyone to feel the same way, and when they ask me if I believe the election was fair and I say yes they seem astonished.

Maybe other Dems talk politics, but since our interactions are mainly with the opposite party member we're paired up with I can only relate my experience and how everyone I work with brings up politics and starts throwing out conspiracy theories. I know it's the opposite of my cooler personna, but I'm really not interested in discussing politics with my GOP co-workers. We are specifically hired based on party affiliation by design, so none of the folks working are what I'd characterize as "persuadable"...

Herschel's college coach - Vince Dooley - died yesterday. Won't hurt his chances with UGA grads.

BTW, Herschel's now ending at least one campaign ad with a "love one another" theme. Sound familiar?

Funny, all the dems I've been paired with have been talking about the illegitimate SCOTUS and mad that the dems can't find a way to get "Kavanaugh and that woman" off of there. Oh, and Thomas is the devil. Kooks for sure.

Well that's a pretty idiotic post, esp since my partner today was my fellow ex- Census supervisor who happens to be a good friend but a batshit crazy conspiracy theorist. She was the one who told several voters today that I was the D and she was the R. I never even broached the subject...

My comment regarding "wing nuts" on election day is solely based on the location of the precinct where I will be working. If I was working in a location more evenly split, then your comment would be accurate. But I'm assuming the precinct I chose (for convenience and travel at 5am) will likely be close to 80% GOP. And based on a certain church's proximity, I'm pretty sure I'll see more than my share of wingnuts at that particular precinct...

You really know nothing about me, save the fact that I post on a politics oriented board. I personally know at least 3 people on this board, and I dare say none of them think I'm extremist. I have no idea why you feel I'm a "danger" to the electoral process?

If being registered to one of the two major parties wasn't a REQUIREMENT for the job, no one I work with would even know I'm a Democrat. In fact when they looked up my voting record they really weren't sure I "qualified" as a D, because I hadn't voted in a Primary this century, and maybe never.

I told them I could work as an R because they are more scarce and individuals have more available shifts. But as people have fallen by the wayside more D spots have opened up and I ended up working a lot more shifts than I was originally scheduled to work.

Well at our location we are working 5 hr shifts, and you get one 15 min break which you take with your opposite party counterpart when the leads replace both of you. So I can only speak to the conversation I have with the person I sit next to all day and go on break with. I don't know what my "fellow Dems" are saying and whether they are "kooky" or not, because the way the system is set up I don't really have occasion to talk with any of them.

The only clue I have as to the political persuasion of someone I haven't personally been paired with is if I see one of the leads approach them and ask them to pick up a shift. That is all based on party affiliation. So while I know and converse with the respective GOP/Dem leads, the only ones who can ask me to work an additional shift or make some sort of schedule change are either the am or pm Dem leads...If they can't find someone from their party to fill a shift they have to work it themselves...

No but she is a mutual friend of our friend, (J) and we were all 3 on the same Supervisor team for Census. As you know J is in her 70s, but my other friend is in her 50s and just as crazy.

Funny story...

When I went for training the 4 leads sat in front of us and basically told us how the operation worked. When we broke into individual groups and toured each station, the printing station was basically where the 4 leads had been sitting.

So I'm sitting there and notice a notebook, and it has notes from the previous day's training. I see both of my friends listed on the page, and was shocked to see J because I had no idea she'd be working. But I noticed that next to her name the person had written something to the effect of "watch out for this one-problem child"...

I immediately assumed that knowing J, she had somehow managed to rub one of the Dem leads the wrong way. Since the training only lasted an hour and there wasn't much interaction I was a little surprised to find J inspiring such a negative reaction just from a single meeting.,. But as you know she is misinformed and pretty intense...

However what makes the story so funny (since you know J) is that when I inquired who had been sitting in the spot where the open notebook was, I found out that the notebook (and comments) belonged to one of the GOP leads, not a Dem. And the lead in question is someone I really like, who is also about the same age as J and who I'd be happy to work under.

I shared the info with my other friend and she cracked up. We both found it hilarious because we both know J pretty well and are aware that this is exactly the type of effect she can have on people. She had similar situations during the time we worked in the Census. I imagine you're aware of that element of her personality as well...

People (from either party) as blatantly & completely biased as you should never be trusted to work an election. Most people have party affiliations, of course, but few are as extreme as you…

You walk into a predetermined place to vote.
You show the nice ladies at the table your id. They show you where to sign. Afterwards, you tell them thank you. You take your place in line until the gentleman says it’s your turn. They walk you to the machine and make the ballot is ready. They then tell you to make sure to cast the ballot by hitting the red button when you are complete. Once done you walk out the door.
Good grief…some people look for drama everywhere.

Well you'd be throwing good money down the drain if you were looking for any of them to say I insulted them. For one thing I'm a first timer and most of my co-workers have worked multiple elections. No idea why you'd think I'd be interested in picking fights with more experienced co-workers, who for the most part are also in their 70s and older than me.

I listen far more than I speak, so I've been regaled with tails of Dems cheating in multiple past elections (on the local level). Of course since that came from the same person who seems to feel that if voters are too stupid to fill out the confusing ballot they shouldn't be voting, I don't put a lot of credence in those particular claims.

This person also ignores the instructions to mute our phones, and had their phone ring 3 separate occasions the first shift we worked together. But I just kept my mouth shut and we basically limited our discussions to our mutual disgust with IU football and optimism for the upcoming basketball season. So no, even this person would not have any disparaging remarks to make about me. We get along fine...

Not a single person I know in real life off of this forum would come close to describing me in those terms. I write and post a hell of a lot different than I speak when I engage in conversation. And as my wacky GOP friend pointed out yesterday, I don't look like a D and with her Pink Floyd vanity plate not many people take her for an R. Until she opens her mouth...

"Partisan shills" are what make the process work. That's how they staff the polls. It's not like they're in it for the fame or money. I'd be fine if stoll was sitting alongside cosmic keeping him honest, and vice versa.

No this is an absentee ballot process, and part of the ballot is non partisan. So if you vote for straight ticket you still have to turn the ballot over to vote for non-partisan school board candidates, if you choose to do so. Also there is a single early voting location for all of the county and some ballots have a school funding referendum, but other precincts don't. You get the ballot based on the precinct you are registered in, even though you are not physically voting in that location.

So we are supposed to point all of that out and most people D and R take it seriously. But the person I discussed basically just hands people the ballot tells them to read it and vote for who they want. That results in some confusion, and it's why some people reach the check out and have followed the correct steps and others haven't.
And there aren't any machines, this is all written ballots...

I just realized this wasn't a DANC post. I assumed it was because of the uninformed snobbery inherent in it.

IIRC, You don't even live in IN and know absolutely nothing about the way the early voting in the location I work at is being conducted. You're exactly the kind of person who would seal your envelope on your own (despite being told not to) and hold up the line at checkout while we had to open your envelope to ensure the mandatory initials that allow your vote to count have been properly applied to the ballot inside.

What’s scary is that a person that spends their every waking minute scouring the internet for leftist propaganda & can’t look beyond ”R bad, D good” working the polls. You are quick to judge any number of posters here, including me, based on what is posted, but that doesn’t apply to Cosmicbot because he wears your jersey. LOL!!!
