This was a desperate stab in the dark by Trump. Now he'll wait to see if new polling shows his favorables improving. That's all he cares about. Problem is, it will take a while for polls to show anything if there is anything and Trump has no patience. Meanwhile, Republicans are getting nervous.

For starters, pass a law that federal workers get paid whether or not the respective federal agencies get funded. That would at least take responsible for the human beings who are directly employed by the Government.

As for this shutdown, end it. Then get on with unrelated business, such as border security.

One of the main reasons we have insanities like this is that Congress passes laws that deal with disparate issues in a single law. Not every country engages is such insanity.

Agree with all three points. Have to admit I am pleasantly surprised by your response. Unfortunately, As much as they SHOULD open the gov then negotiate a solution, nothing I see indicates there would be any negotiating.
