The Bird is Free

The extremists on each side are very different. Conservative loons like forever Trumpers and election deniers sit around in person at diners and coffee shops and spit out their nonsense. They take it online sometimes but nobody cares. They have a more lone wolf style and each one’s bullshit isn’t necessarily in lockstep with each other’s.

Progressive loons do it in a more calculated manner. They have to express themselves under the veil of intelligentsia and create a status bubble where there is pressure to agree to them or you’ll be out of the bubble. Online platforms - especially social networks - are perfect for this. They help the bubbles form and keep the narratives strong. If you don’t move in lockstep with the latest narrative - you’re out.
Uh, conservative loons operate under a veil of fake Patriotism

I keep hearing this and I just cannot figure out why a conservative controlled platform doesn't really take off? Twitter and Truth Social are both private companies who can pretty much do what they want as it relates to censorship on their platform. But one is worth billions while the other is not.

In the marketplace of ideas and advertisers, why are liberals winning?
Barrier to entry for new companies is that popularity/usefulness of platform is based on #s. Twitter was the first to get there so has dominance. Same thing for FB and a lot of social media.

You claimed Twitter won't let you like conservative tweets. That's a lie, and you know it's a lie.

But after you posted your strange little rant about Trump, Elon, and Tulsi, I'm not so worried about your honesty. I'm more worried about your mental health. Please get checked out.
Its a well known glitch. Happens all the time. I follow all sides on Twitter. Search for yourself about likes on twitter. Its broke.

And you are the one obviously delusional if you don't think thats true what I posted.

I agree it’s completely hivethink. But there’s a queen bee in each hive. Twitter will hopefully no longer be a part of any political narrative.
But what if the Queen Bee is a company? To be sure, I don't think Twitter is that at all.

It's a marketplace of ideas. Twitter is winning. Maybe it will win even more with Musk at the helm. I have no idea. I think he's gonna find that running a social media platform will drive him crazy.

I'm guessing Musk is going to focus most of his time on making Twitter more profitable. Its profitability lags its popularity and name-recognition by a large margin.

Isn't capitalism awesome? As a formal liberal who is for free speech, it's a great thing. For whatever reasons, a lot of the large tech companies have been pushed pretty far left and have embraced too much censorship in my opinion. Musk isn't some far right wing zealot, he's a former liberal who I consider a centrist. I think it will benefit Democrats, as well. They will get more of their stupid ideas challenged.
Musks views are all over the map.

He has some liberal views, he has some conservative views. He isn't moderate in that he doesn't seek to moderate positions in some areas. He can have extreme positions on both sides of various issues.

So it will remain a gated cesspool post purchase.
I think you will see the gate get opened a bit. Like Libsoftiktok is probably not going to be getting put on suspensions for reposting others content or Project Veritas getting banned.

It is stuff like that I think that annoyed folks from the right.

The Democrats won’t be able to censor free speech at Twitter anymore.

The 2020 election might have been different if Musk had owned Twitter. There wouldn’t have been censorship of Republican free speech.

Now Musk will deal with the Democrat weaponization of the DOJ and FBI.

Who amongst us hasn't missed the quality content of HunterBidenHunter123456?

Politics Twitter does nothing but make it harder to find sports and dog posts.

A. Chasing Dollars
B. Censorship? It's a private company.
On B, I never stated it was illegal. I assume that is what you were getting at? Elon Musk decided it was too much and took over (or the market is correcting itself). There does need to be a discussion on what is the marketplace of ideas are, in 2022. It's moved online and is no longer the town square.

Google investigations of Musk.
All i see are SEC investigations regarding the Twitter sale.

Do you mean to tell me you don't think the government noses around in just about every sale this large? Bish please.

What is a platform? Is it a publisher? Sometimes. Is it the town square? Sometimes.

Agree we need to think seriously about how we deal with online noise. But that can of worms is way too big and complex for our geriatric Congress or SC to ever take on.

Good News. Ye is back on the platform-carry on.

Hard to believe you work in any type of professional setting. How will he tackle your perceived DOJ problem?

I know you Trump guys love your strongmen, so how do you think Musk would go about this?
He’s not going to do anything about DOJ. They will be investigating him. He’s on wrong side now.

I did get a chuckle out of reading anything Progressives do being calculated. I believe it's closer to hive think or groupthink. Also, don't worry there are still TONS of conservative loons on Twitter bitching about Twitter censoring conservative loons.

I agree Twitter's mgmt leans Progressive. Just like Exxon's leans conservative. If we're going to start legislating the belief system of a company, whoa boy.

So the Dem v. Pub split can be distilled down to nerds and theater kids v. jocks?

Damn it, all of life really is just like high school.

I’d be all for these companies being highly regulated and able to be sued into oblivion for disinformation.

i think we're evenly, eerily divided as a country in how we think. what's more the issues are inherently polar. not good. we're two countries of people stuck on one land at this point

You really should see The Main Board. God what a cesspool. I really need to stop going there. Maybe next week. Or definitely the one after that.

While all that is true he’ll now be called Fascist by the loons on the left.

He probably will. I don't know that I think he is anything but an opportunist. If he thinks he can score points with a position, he'll take that position. If it helps him financially to change, he'll change. What's best for Musk is his position.

Thanks in large part to social media imo.
is it social media or hollywood, tv, and news? marv wrote he has very little political activity on facebook. i have next to none. on my instagram the only political activity is pete buttigieg slidin into my Dms and i just delete those. so i hear that about social media and you could absolutely be right but i wonder. again i love facebook. it's been a wonderful way for the soccer community and old friends to keep up when we certainly would not have otherwise

On this very forum, I see a lot of conservatives nuts from Twitter being reposted. That big ole oak has a lot of acorns.

It’s probably just a demographic thing. The moon bats are younger and more online, especially the social media space. The nutters are older and watch more Fox News and scroll on FB. So maybe Twitter seems more left just based on volume. Will we see a discernible change? No idea.
