I preface this by saying screw Xfinity...hard, raw and dry with a smidgen of violence.

My monthly internet bill started creeping up, which clued me in that my bundled plan promotion must've ended. I put off calling them for a hot minute, because calling Xfinity is like visiting Doc Jelly Finger or Doc Drill n Fill (I think they might be the same guy TBH, but that's a thread for another time). I figured since I had to call em, I might as well see about going to unlimited data (5 people in the household that stream, remote work and game...sometimes all 3 at once, so staying under my 1.2 TB limit is tenuous at best).

Long story short(ish) I was able to upgrade to unlimited data and keep all my other services unchanged for only a few bucks more than my last bundled plan, but I have to use/lease their xFi modem/router (which is included as part of the package that only costs me a few bucks more per month), otherwise the plan will cost me 30 bucks more per month to upgrade to unlimited data using my own modem/router.

My question is this: Is that just bullshit? Couldn't I just leave their equipment sitting here in the box and keep using my modem/router, and get my unlimited data for the agreed upon minor $$$ increase, or will I have to use their equipment?

Maybe this can help

"Hello! Thank you for reaching out to us here on our Community Forum. We do offer Unlimited Data at a reduced cost with xFi Complete, this covers the modem rental fee ($15 per month) and Unlimited Data (normally $30 a month) for the cost of $25 a month. You will always have the option to use your modem/router if you think it is a better fit for your in-home network. If you do use your own modem, the Unlimited Data would be $30 a month as that is what the regular cost is. "

Unlimited data should be the standard package for cable modem. Don't you have any other options available?

I suffer from a debilitating condition called OFS, otherwise known as Old Fart Syndrome. One of the common symptoms of OFS is resistance to change. Same spouse for 40 years, same insurance agent for 30 years, same underwear fo...you get the picture.
