They actually provided a good service for those outside of Israel who had to have the currency exchanged. Those who sold animals in the temple court were also not doing a disservice because if you were from 100s of miles away and had to bring your own animals for sacrifice then it would be a lot more convenient to buy your sacrificial animals in Jerusalem.
