Serious question about Christianity and MAGA

Since evangelical (and what does that term even mean anymore?) Christianity and Trump have become inexplicably woven together, I’m curious how many Trump voters truly read and study the Bible. I’m not being judgmental at all if you don’t. Mine has collected dust for many years at a time through the years. There are great Muslims, great Jews, great atheists, etc… so this is not a proselytizing post. But I’ve read and studied a lot the past few years and I truly don’t see how there is a connection with Trump and Christianity. The words and teachings of Jesus, regardless of what your religious and philosophical thinking in, are in general mostly diametrically opposed to everything Trump says and stands for. I’m sure if anyone answers this will likely turn into a sh!t show like most every other thread, but I’m truly curious and trying to get some clarification so don’t say I don’t try

60 percent of Catholics voted trump. Anyway you’re fixated on trump. That’s the wrong focus. This was a referendum on the last 4 years of Dem bs. People voted against Dems: free cheese, border, woke arrogance. Dems aren’t very likable this past 4 years

I’ll bite on your rhetoric.
Christians are a group of the flawed masses. Striving to be better, with the knowledge that they will never achieve pure holiness as that is unabstanable with the exception of the one we look up to, that achieved that unabstanable perfection. The one and only one who has achieved that goal (why, how and by who’s “leg up” can be debated).
We all know we are not perfect. We all know that we each sin/ make mistakes. But all of that is within the human life, moving towards heavenly perfection.
A human’s past, doesn’t have to be its future. Objects in the MSM media mirror, or not as close as they appear brother.
The political opponent today, can’t backup a Prius without 30 cameras, auto steer and a 300 mile extension cord. Connected to a coal fired generator. Yet they feel they can dictate Formula one racing.

IMO, that's the point, isn't it? I have an easier time pinpointing evangelical than MAGA. Is RFK religious right? Elon? Tulsee? Yet here we are. I see MAGA as more of a broad slogan than a defined business plan. There is a common thread of less gov intrusion, less gov manipulation. And speaking only for myself, Trump is not my pastor, counselor, savior, king (I have one thank you very much). Anyone, right or left, who thinks setting Trump or anyone else as president so "Christian law" can be enacted, is way off base on what Christianity is. Jesus taught free-will. Choosing his path, choosing to love God.

There's not. Nor should there be, at least on an institutional level. His salvation story may be a nice warm fuzzy to publish in Christianity Today, but the main thing we should want out of a leader is Provide for the common defense, support the general welfare. Full stop. He governs best, who governs least.

There was a study, basically a Bible knowledge quiz, that showed (to my memory) this rank order in terms of basic Biblical knowledge

agnostics > atheists > non-evangelical Protestants > Jews & Muslims > Catholics > Evangelicals

The rankings came out roughly the same, whether the focus was on the New Testament, the Old Testament, or both.
