Regardless of who you voted for in November, how is THIS a good idea?

I don’t know if they can see my SS number or not, but I’m pretty sure that kind of data is of no interest.

I doubt that it's of interest, too. Same goes for other similar sensitive information. And I don't think it's unreasonable to insist that this information be excluded from what they have access to.

Take away everything they're using for complaints. Because none of them are the reason they're complaining.

This is out of control, and it appears no one is able to control Musk. Musk isn't in the US Government's org chart. Reportedly, he closed USAID today.
Reportedly. Musk recommended but has no power to close. USAID activity was suspended. In the future, it will most likely report to the Sec of State. Hearing where some of the aid is going, it might be good idea to rein them in.

I'm very happy with how things are progressing. I want government cut and will take it anyway I can get it. I don't understand the tariffs on Canada, but it's Trump. You get 3 things you like and one dumb thing. For example, I got the stupid Trump coin, but he also just signed an EO for a SWF.

Saw that. WTF is a Sovereign Wealth Fund?

And that’s okay. But doesn’t mean everything shouldn’t be audited and tested. How much money has been wasted, money that could be spent so much better, efficiently and quickly on areas much more beneficial to military readiness?
We spend more on defense than the rest of the world combined. We could keep the budget static for the next 5 years and we'd still be way ahead in spending.

If we can't cut some fat out of the defense budget, we're not trying.

We could hire 10 Gurkas for what it cost to pay a US combat soldier today.

I’ve never understood the trade deficit argument. We get value for the imported goods. If we important a barrel of oil, we have the value that oil produces.. Who cares if we export something in exchange? Is this too simple?
The argument is it costs US jobs. And it does. And we're dependent on China for basic item in drug production.

It ain't gummies we're worried about (sorry, @mcmurtry66 )

I’m sure Elon Musk is not the only individual with this level of access to that system.

I’m sympathetic to people complaining about him having access to personal info (like SSN and whatever else it has). If sensitive personal info can be encrypted or withheld, that sounds more than reasonable. It’s not relevant to what he’s doing.

My guess is they've run so fast they didn't realize what a legal mess they've setup for themselves. If this gets all bogged up and becomes THE story day after day, Trump is going to get fed up and shit can the whole exercise. I guarantee you he doesn't want to be asked questions about Elon every day.

DOGE’s access to federal data is ‘an absolute nightmare,’ legal experts warn

I can’t help but notice that they’re citing access to sensitive personal information as the complaint.

No offense to you. I respect you. But I’m not buying that. That seems like an obvious red herring.

Let’s assume we can prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that this information is actually not accessible. Do you think the people losing their shit over this would be OK with it then?

Yeah, me neither.

Does any of that matter from a legal perspective?

Turn off Rachel maddow. She’s lying to you. Trump speaks nonstop. Biden was sequestered. Prescreened questions then the biden shuffle out the door. He was mushy peas.

Has nothing to do with policy. They were actual lies. About Biden’s condition. That there weren’t criminals coming through. Biden lied repeatedly about the actual inflation rate. Harris repeatedly stated trump wants a national abortion ban. Her incessantly lying ass got fact checked over and over to no avail.

The border bill was dogshit. It codified ridiculous numbers only for mushy peas to say he can close the border himself.

Both sides lie. Nonstop.

Delete all your news sources. You’re being worked with one way traffic
Never listen to Rachel maddow and anyone who thinks the border bill was dog shit is sold out to their propaganda

Saw that. WTF is a Sovereign Wealth Fund?
A place to dump digital currencies that don’t fit in the basement of repositories like Fort Knox and the NY Federal reserve.

It’s also a place to pick winners and losers.
Fund “winners” and pay off cronies by buying their stock offerings.
Bankruptcies are not felonies, yet.

Government Motors loan could be a sovereign wealth fund asset, the next time.

It gives the Tresurary secretary more flexibility, perhaps.

So, like gold, only with digital currencies. Does this mean the government could issue Bitcoins without actually having enough Bitcoins to back it up?

Nope. But I’d bet once the legal stuff gets cleared up, one way or another, the challenges won’t stop there.

Let me put it this way: I don’t think Beltway people are actually outraged about the prospect of Elon Musk having access to the SS numbers of whoever has received federal payments.

But they are clearly outraged, that much is true. Judging by the visceral reactions, I think he may have happened upon a honeypot.

Do you know who these reactions remind me of?

Me…when I knew that my mom was about to discover my porn stash when I was 14.

This thread isn’t about me.

Trump and his administration is solving problems and swaying opinion like he’s driving by you in a
Ferrari and you are sitting in your Yugo picking your nose saying WTF?

This stealing democracy, Musk is in it for himself, and Trump is senile schtick is useless, but it is all you got these days.
You wrote, “I want to exploit [Musk] for my benefit.” I challenged your belief that Musk has your interests in mind.

YOU made it about you.

You are a consummate Trump apologist. Your posts have become laughably absurd

Again, are we shocked that he doesn't like money going to his competitors, money that his company hasn't qualified for any time over the past 5 years?

BS. My biz partner bought a Tesla in Dec 2023. Got the $7500 tax credit. Just Google ev tax credit 2023 and check out the IRS website with a link to eligible cars. You'll find the Tesla Y Performance on the list.

You would be apoplectic if President Kamala Harris gave a West Wing office and unchecked access to the US Treasury to someone like George Soros. And rightfully so.

Does it not concern you at all that an unelected campaign donor to Trump, who has significant government contracts himself, is holding the purse strings to the US Treasury?

Soros was convicted on insider trading in France, so not a good choice. Now, Tom Golden, Fiona Moore, or someone from PWC would be good.
