President Trump on the Civil War...

Of course I'm not saying someone got into election machines. I'm saying what every single service, FBI, CIA, Homeland Security and everyone investigating is saying. I'm saying they hacked her email , as they did with the GOP. They chose to release hers. They put out all kinds of fake stories that the Trumpsters believed, such as Pizzagate and child porn ring. Those discriminating voters that now love to yell fake news swallowed all of that about Hillary.
Her emails were real and I did pay attention to that (didn't change my opinion about her at all though, simply reinforced it) but personally I never even heard about the other stuff. You guys just can't come to grips that she lost.

Wouldn't it have required a strong president that was anti-slavery? Many of our leaders before the war were not anti-slavery, they were pro-slavery. As such, I don't know what would have happened if they had been a strong leader. The social tide was turning against slavery, there really was not a pro-slavery position that could have extended it later even if the leader was strong.

A big difference between the south and Europe was that the south was born to slavery. It was their custom, their right. It was who they were. Some Europeans profited by slavery, but it wasn't ingrained in their culture like it was in America. And still today, the south is more rooted in tradition than the north. That was a bad combination for getting slavery removed. The people seen as leaders of the south were too heavily invested in slavery. Invested enough that individual states worked on plans for military invasions of Cuba, South American, and Central America to try and expand slavery. I don't know what year slavery could have been ended without war, but it was before 1861. And of course it was after the Constitutional Convention as before then would have resulted in no union. So the period of time was very brief.

Yeah, a strong anti-slavery president would have been necessary. But that isn't as clear cut as it might seem. Didn't TJ originally write an anti-slavery clause in the Declaration? Yet he owned slaves. Robert E. Lee also spoke of abolition but he owned slaves. I also seem to be aware of some more abolitionist comments from other slave owners.

I don't think Jackson would have been the guy, and noted that above. But who knows if he was POTUS 20 years later.

A childhood favorite. The Brits absolutely hate it I've read. It is not accurate but a heck of a fine nationalist diddy...

Did read an historical acccount purported to have been taken from a British officers diary that is one of my personal Battle of New Orleans favorites: Went something "like" this:
(Brit officer) observed (during the post battle truce to tend to wounded and collect the dead) an American officer mounted on a fine horse, smoking a cigar and smiling broadly..., (the Brit) asked him if he needed any help collecting his wounded and he smiled and said: I have none sir //(I'm guessing he meant out on the British side of the line where he was riding)//.

It was implied that this comment really "shook" the Brit officer who was just coming to grips with the magnitude of the British casualties. ;)

When the British failed to take the battery that was across the river on their left flank they basically walked their men into a battilion size L shaped ambush and were literally decimated.

I didn't hear of that until after the election. That couldn't have been a very big deal, especially when you think the audience of that crap were probably already Trump voters. Do you really really think that child porn thing swung any states?

What other fake stories?

Who do you think linked Trump's locker room recording? The Russians? The Democrats? The Chinese?

The interesting thing about the Democrat email thing is that they were all genuine. They showed unethical conduct, fraud on the public, and in a couple of cases questionable legal conduct. The Russians didn't make the Clinton campaign cheat on the debates.

Watched a good documentary about the War of 1812 recently.

Canadians view it as a great Canadian victory - they kicked our ass up north.

The British sort of took the position they didn't care much about losing that Battle of New Orleans, didn't pay much attention to it over the years, and expressed shock over why the Colonists would take to such a song.

The idea that the United States survived both the Revolution and the War of 1812 is stunning.
The stars aligned and lightning struck twice.

all these years and who knew all it took was a swashbuckler with a big heart to prevent the Civil War.

All of this would be hilarious if it wasn't THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES saying it. The worst part is, he doesn't need to step in these types of heaping piles of crap. He does it to himself because he thinks it makes him sound smart to make historical references.

I can't wait for the eventual gaslighting that comes from everyone from his administration to his supporters.
God is merciless.
Why didn't He give us Trump before the rise of Hitler. He would've prevented the WWII.
Why didn't He give us Trump before 911? He would've prevented that tragedy.
etc., etc.

Lincoln wasn't an abolitionist. Yes, he thought it an abomination, but did not advocate forcing the end of slavery. His policy was to prevent its spread into the territories, and thereby preventing it from being established in new states. The South wouldn't stand for that, as that would make them a minority in the Senate (they already were in the House), and subject to "oppression" by the Abolitionists who were gaining strength in the North. They figured they'd get out while the getting was good. They never imagined the North would go to the lengths they did to suppress the rebellion and prevent the permanent establishment of the CSA.

His statement, to me, reveals a "context" problem far too common today. He/they dont seem to consider/realize that most problems have causes/histories that are decades-deep minimum, and some go back hundreds of years. Most folks never get past a knee-jerk reaction based on who said something and which political party they are in. An incredible, stunning lack of understanding of history. The "sound bite" thinking prevalent throughout our current culture, and getting worse.
It is stunning that so many people have very little knowledge of history.I wonder though if people were more knowledgeable 50 or 100 years ago than they are now.Who knows?About 15 years ago,Jay Leno was asking people on the streets of LA what the Gettysburg Address was,and about one out of eight knew what it was,and that Lincoln gave the speech. One young California blonde said it was a speech given by George Washington during World War Two.Now that's sad.

What people can't come to terms with is the vile, ignorant man that embarrasses our country nearly every day.

No, actually they didn't. If it had showed something illegal, she would have been prosecuted. Lord knows they tried. Of course you haven't heard of those things, because you aren't on more social media. There were different insane stories running around daily on those sites, viewed by millions of people.

Trump National golf course has a memorial to a Civil War battle that never happened. Even though historians have told him that no such thing happened there, Trump just decided it did. The guy even lies in his Civil War memorials:

Trump decided: "That was a prime site for river crossings, so, if people are crossing the river, and you happen to be in a civil war, I would say that people were shot — a lot of them."

Therefore...it's The River of BLOOD!!!!

Signed,

Donald John Trump

Actually you are right. It was a Project Varitas video. Hillary's campaign had so many ethical problems it's hard to keep them all straight.

That is particularly sad. In my mind it is awful close to people committing stolen valor acts.

But compared to Trump, and his cronies ( and the investigations are just starting and hers went on for decades) their campaign looks absolutely angelic. Just you wait...

Maybe if Hillary did not break the law, and then lie about, the Russians wouldn't have had anything to hack.

I think the "sniper fire" thing is totally weird. I can't imagine why she would say such a thing and it seems out of character. It's definitely a strike against her, though.

That said, Trump pretty much says a whopper like that EVERY single day.

QUOTE="UncleMark, post: 2147341, member: 706"]HRC was rightly pilloried for her Serbian "sniper fire" claim. To me this is equally vile. Yet his supporters will shrug it off, because Hilary.[/QUOTE]

When it comes to people misstating what happened to them a decade before, sometimes we are too hard on them. It's a proven fact that our brains don't remember things perfectly. They just sort of capture the broad strokes, and then rebuild the details when we recall those memories. So a lot of times, we get things wrong and honestly don't realize it.

Of course, I'm not sure that's what happened to HRC. I wouldn't imagine sniper fire to be the kind of random detail your brain would use as filler, so the whole thing smells fishy from the start. But it's one possibility, however remote. Plus, if she knowingly lied about that particular detail, it's a really strange lie to tell, and a dumb one, because she should have assumed (or even remembered!) that there were plenty of witnesses to the event, including members of the media. So even if you are inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt, there's still plenty of room for both skepticism and bemusement.

And, of course, this whole River of Blood thing is entirely different. Trump isn't misremembering something that happened to him, or even embellishing his own personal history. He's just flat out making stuff up, because it looks good on a plaque on his property.

I hope whomever the D candidate is in 2020 suggests the NPS seize the land and make a National Battlefield.

What law was it she broke again? The one that you found that how many millions of dollars and hours of GOP investigation could NOT find? Why don't you call Comey ASAP?

I'm glad you've determined that she broke the law and that you know more than an FBI director on what constitutes a crime.

Have you inherited the narcissism of the guy for whom you voted?

Refresh my memory what laws she broke, well, except for her lie about dodging the bullet.
Also, if you are so holier-than-thou about Hilary's "crimes," how dare you defend Trump?

to be fair that skit usually found the dumbest of the dumb people. I'm sure it took them a good part of a day to find people either genuinely that dumb or willing to act that dumb so they'd get on TV.

The History Section of the Salinas, Kansas 8th grade graduation test in 1895. You had to pass the entire test to get your diploma from 8th grade. And a huge percentage of today's adults can't find geographical locations or identify historical occurrences within the country. Nothing wrong with American public education, is there?

U.S. History (Time, 45 minutes)
1. Give the epochs into which U.S. History is divided.
2. Give an account of the discovery of America by Columbus.
3. Relate the causes and results of the Revolutionary War.
4. Show the territorial growth of the United States.
5. Tell what you can of the history of Kansas.
6. Describe three of the most prominent battles of the Rebellion.
7. Who were the following: Morse, Whitney, Fulton, Bell, Lincoln, Penn, and Howe?
8. Name events connected with the following dates: 1607, 1620, 1800, 1849, and 1865?

If Trump was in that class, he would have gotten the extra credit question: What will Herbert Hoover's opinion of WWII be and why?

You may be correct, but I know a lot of people who couldn't tell you the difference between Washington and Lincoln if their lives depended on it.And I know a few folks who thought the 1984 movie Red Dawn was based on real events.

Ask any of those 8th grade kids in 1895 how to use a computer/blue-ray/cell phone and tell me how they do. Education has just changed. I agree we often undervalue history, but there are competing subjects to be learned.

Did you know when writing was first invented, many were highly critical because we would lose the memorization that came from story telling? They were right, many in the ancient world were capable of remembering far more than we are today. That ability is gone, but I think the invention of a written language is superior. Education changed from inventing the written language. There is a book, Moonwalking with Einstein, that goes into that some as it is about people today who compete in the world memory championships.

Education has changed a great deal since 1895. I am not certain it is better, or worse, just different. I know that the easiest way for me to learn my phone's features is to ask my kids.

don't take this the wrong way, but you know a lot of stupid people. I probably do too, but I can't think of a single person who would confuse Washington and Lincoln or who would think Red Dawn was a bio-pic.
