While we and our new HC watch in the shadows, who would you rather have as the IU HC? Dusty May or DeVries?

There were rumors on here that we tried to lock Dusty last year but I’m curious if Dolson actually tried to hire DeVries. Just more speculation that doesn’t matter as we watch the NCAAT.

Dusty was not interested in coaching IU. He was looking for exactly what he got in UM. Two years ago when he was still at FAU and going to the FF, he told someone very close to him that I know that he would not consider the IU job. You people need to get over it. Great for Dusty, and IU needs to be happy with DD.

I’m more than willing to give DD a chance, but if IU offered May $2M more than UM, he would have took it.

UM would match anything IU offered. Dusty did not want a bidding war. He is not built like that. The situation got him a nice raise and he is more than happy with it.

Interesting. Reason?

Sounds like Dusty didn’t want the pressure and knew it would be much less at a football school

Maybe. But he was going to Louisville and UM came in with a higher offer at the last minute and…

I guess it’s possible he doesn’t want to coach a big bball school. Not sure about that though.

If we fired Woody after year 3 and then gave Dusty twice the NIL and more money we would've had bad PR, as you can see by the coaching search, that was never an option. IU in its current iteration has the perfect coach. I really hope Coach DeVries is still on the rise to greatness and he reaches it at IU. It would be cool to see young Hoosier Nation have their guy.

He was talking to Louisville but I don’t think he was serious about going there. He was actually very happy in Boca and could have stayed there. He said it was pretty easy to recruit players to south Florida. The UM offer was just too good to turn down.

He went to IU and grew up a stone's throw from Bloomington. I have a hard time believing he would have picked UM over IU. IU's management made a decision to run it back with Woody, and UM was looking for a coach.

It would seem that way but RMK was born in Ohio, went to OSU and I don't recall any serious threat of him going there to coach.

Perhaps that Indiana was a basketball state and IU was a basketball school had a lot to do with it. Could you honestly see Knight taking a backseat to OSU football?

He thought UM had a higher ceiling than IU. He knew that the UM program had surpassed IU, had more tournament success in the last 20 years and IU is running on fumes. IU is his alma mater but he knew the program was nothing like when he was here and Michigan offers better upside.

Sean May grew up a stone's throw from AH itself, and he chose to go to school at UNC. There's nothing magical in the air. Maybe, just maybe Dusty (while being a grad and a former manager, and probably cherishing his time spent here) has had no intention of ever coming back to coach here.

Get over it. Lots of moving parts that we'll never know.
Either support the coach or don't.

Right. Just think of the vitriol his family would be subjected to if he coached for IU. Good enough reasoning.
