He thought UM had a higher ceiling than IU. He knew that the UM program had surpassed IU, had more tournament success in the last 20 years and IU is running on fumes. IU is his alma mater but he knew the program was nothing like when he was here and Michigan offers better upside.

There is a LOT of speculation and tea leaf reading in this post.
How do you know most of what you stated?

Sean May grew up a stone's throw from AH itself, and he chose to go to school at UNC. There's nothing magical in the air. Maybe, just maybe Dusty (while being a grad and a former manager, and probably cherishing his time spent here) has had no intention of ever coming back to coach here.
Sean May went to UNC in protest over the way Knight was treated here by the IU administration and its spoiled fans believing everything the negative media spewed.

While we and our new HC watch in the shadows, who would you rather have as the IU HC? Dusty May or DeVries?

There were rumors on here that we tried to lock Dusty last year but I’m curious if Dolson actually tried to hire DeVries. Just more speculation that doesn’t matter as we watch the NCAAT.

How about we do a poll after we’ve seen what DeVries does with the program.

Yes sir. Sean and I are the same age, same name, just different build :). We played soccer together when younger, and I was way better at pretty much all sports than him. Then I turned 9.

He did what pops said, would have 100% went to IU if knight was there.

Story has always been that RMK was set to go to Wisconsin but they leaked it and he bolted. Their screw up our gain.
Hardly. Someone of prominence said he really needed to rethink recruiting to Madison based on location, BB history and Winter weather. West Point winters can be tough but it's not in the B1G.

Scott May knew the administration stabbed Bob Knight in the back. We’ve been in recovery mode ever since Brand’s assault on our cherished icon of college basketball. IU wanted everyone to think itself woke before everyone knew what woke was. With our recent twisted way of thinking, a parent or another authority figure touching someone to get their attention is considered a bullying assault on an individual’s God-given rights. Maybe after the next 16 years of Republican administration the rod will no longer be spared and the child spoiled.

Prominence doesn’t guarantee truthful knowledge. Quinn Buckner is prominent.

Do you think Wisconsin is in the Arctic Circle? BB history and weather affect on recruiting had absolutely nothing to do with Knight’s decision. I also heard the Wisconsin athletic department’s “leak” story pissing him off before anything was signed. Bob Knight loved our athletic director, Bill Orwig, and praised him many times over the years as being his favorite one.

I’m just angry that this dumbass administration pissed away two decades with bad coaching hires and inept management.

BYU, Michigan, and Arkansas are in the Sweet Sixteen with first year head coaches while Woodson couldn’t sniff one in four seasons. And don’t get me started on Archie who was every bit as bad. And Crean was a weirdo who couldn’t figure out a zone defense. All three of those clowns sucked at recruiting the state, as did Mike Davis.

We are gonna be ok. DeVries is a stud. I'd loved for IU to have hired Dusty. But that ship sailed when IU decided to give Woody another year.

I chose May. One has been to a FF with an otherwise unknown team prior to that achievement and won a Big Ten tourney champ in his first season and took his team to at least the S16 in his first season AFTER said team finished near bottom of league the year prior. The other built up Drake.

Oh, but one must not forget to consider the immediate resources available for these first year coaches at BYU, Michigan and Arkansas. Almost any coach could succeed there with all their portal power through NIL offerings, facilities and basketball tradition. (cough, cough, non Covid related)

I voted DeVries. One guy sees it as his destination job. One guy apparently not. I'll go with that guy that does see Indiana as the dream job. As long as he can coach, and signs are DeVries is really good at it.

Besides, we have our guy. Not ever voting against our program. Go Hoosiers! Our guys are are better than your guys. Our program is better than your program. Whoever you are. We're back.

Fact, prominence means Fred Taylor. I lived in Ohio for a time.
The leak no doubt pissed him off also.
Arctic Circle is pretty funny.

He couldn’t handle the pressure at IU. He knew he would crack like a walnut and fail, so chose UM where they care much more about football. See how that’s done? This whole thread is make believe.
