Last year Lander should have been a high school senior.

This year the only thing he has shown is bad judgement. And he has used up half his eligibility. Did Archie not redshirt him because they thought he would go pro early? I bet Woody is telling him that future at Indiana is tenuous if he does not toughen-up and smarten-up.

Edit: last year was a a freebie because of covid. So he technically still a freshman.

Worst thing that could’ve happened to him was getting a five-star rating as a junior.

I think the train of thought was that he would be better off practicing and getting better against college players. I believe last year was free so probably no harm done. Hopefully we see him make a jump in ability over the next couple of years.

I have only seen this from Indiana but they are listing the roster as a year behind. For example, they called Galloway a Freshman and Race a RS-Jr.

Because they all get an extra year for covid. Some guys could end up being 7th year seniors given that. Crazy.

There are good reasons for this which you can look up or most here can help you with.

My only comment is that I have not seen it from other teams. Not hiding right or wrong. Most schools still use academic status.
No they use eligibility status.

Lots of "Seniors" out there that are nowhere near graduating.

Back to Lander…was hoping we could just blame last yr on CAM and see development this year. But he’s played even less and picks up fouls at light speed. If it weren’t for Rob’s foot he may have never seen the court again this yr. as of now he’s only getting garbage minutes and made a really stupid mistake last week. Blew a big chance to see heavy minutes in the NW game. Still pulling for the kid but he better put in the hardest summer ever, if he even stays.

Lander should have stayed in HS. He was likely coerced into leaving early to cover up for Miller's inability to recruit.

Well it made it look like he would land a top recruit as the two top two guys went to Purdue. But now we see it was not a top recruit or maybe not even a four star.

We landed a "top recruit", it's just that so far he hasn't panned out as a player. It wasn't anything IU did or concocted, it was the recruiting experts who made the mistake. This board would have had a hissy fit if we'd not recruited Lander.

Lander is going to be 20 on August 9th. Age is not his problem. Basketball IQ is his problem.

I think lack of strength is Lander's problem. I think that is big part of his defensive issues. Race spent a year as a Redshirt in the weight room. Struggled for 2 years before finally breaking out. I know he had injuries but I'd think Lander can still develop and be a solid player. My guess is since they may need 3 to go, he should go back to Evansville and join one of those programs. He'd be nice player to help USI start off their D1 years.

So he is actually old for his grade. The only logical explanation for the five star ranking is he did good at one AAU tournament and all the ranking services ranked him on that.
