2022 IU Football Recruiting Thread

I thought that as well, but everyone I've spoke to on Nebraska said, while they were surprised with the swap, it had nothing to do with Frost. Moo's only was focusing on football. They really want to improve bball out there, which shouldn't be super hard considering their coach and facilities. Basketball arena is amazing. Great crowd at every game.

It seems like they are going to hire an AD that knows Frost really well from what I've heard. Like I said, most believe Frost has time and Moos wasn't sent packing because of the state of the football program.

To your point, I did see a post on the Nebraska forum to the effect that Nebraska has won only ONE BTC in any sport since the 2017-18 athletic year. I haven't double-checked the totals posted, but here they were for schools of interest:

UM...............28
OSU..............27

MD................15
Iowa..............13
IU...................11
MN................10
PSU................10

Purdue...........1
Nebraska.......1
Rutgers..........0

Yikes.

I knew very little about Frost when he came over from UCF. From what little I did know, I assumed he was a great hire for them.

That said, I have had more of a chance to see & hear him since then, and I am completely unimpressed. Like Harbaugh, he is inarticulate in his public speaking. On the field, he seems to wear a WTF expression as his go-to look. He does not appear to inspire anyone. His recruiting has been mediocre. Essentially, he appears to me to be college football's Archie Miller.

On the field, he's 12-20 overall, with 4, 5, and 3 wins. In the BT, he's 9-17, with 3 wins each season.

As a practical matter, I think he has to get to 6-6 this season to survive. He's got probable wins with Illinois, Purdue, Fordham & Buffalo at home. Probable losses v. Oklahoma, Michigan, OSU, Wisconsin & Iowa. That would put him at 4-5 with toss-up games against NW at home, and MSU & Minnesota on the road. The most likely outcome, in my view, is 5-7. He's got a $5M buyout. With a new AD, I think he's gone after this year.
You could be right, depending on the AD they hire, but that would also mean Moos was fired for wanting to stay with Frost, which it wasn't. Every reasonable fan in Nebraska knew it was a big rebuild, not a quick turn around. Frost has fought a lot of internal issues with the team and has had to really work. Some of the same issues as Brohm actually. It's why both teams have been incredibly young the last couple years, which isn't a winning formula in the big ten.

Going off rankings, which I'm not a fan of, he's recruited really well actually. Consistently top 5 in big ten. You can tell, like Brohm, this rebuild has wore on him. He needs to find a new energy level, something, Brohm also needed to do, and I think he has?

Also would call Nebraska vs Purdue a probable win. I think Purdue is better than them.

I don't think the AD was fired because of Frost's failures. On the other hand, if Frost was 20-12 at Nebraska rather than 12-20, he'd still be there.

Also, if Frost wasn't the hometown hero, he would have been gone after this year.

Whatever IU fans think of Brohm, he has had some personality and fire. Or at least he did until Auburn kicked him in the nuts. My point about Frost is that he at least has the appearance of being a total dud, with no redeeming coaching qualities. His PCs at the Big 10 meetings and football post-games are ugly. He must have some redeeming qualities, given his playing success and his success at UCF. But, like Archie Miller, he's hiding all his light under a bushel. If Archie had played at IU rather than NC State, they could be twins.

You could absolutely be right on Frost. Not saying you are wrong. I was pretty hesitant to crown him the next coming at Nebraska. I always felt Brohm was better than him actually.

Also, it's worth remembering that his popularity at NU was a product of being on National championship caliber teams. He wasn't all that popular in Lincoln with the fans until the title run & he reciprocated that back to them. Tremendous athlete (not a lot of option QBs out there winning HS shotput state titles) and was a very successful coach at UCF. But really gives off that dickhead vibe.

Most reasonable Nebraska fans know that he needs time and they can't keep running out coaches. They also accept that they aren't a 10 win program anymore, but instead, belong in the same breath as Purdue and iu. Barring a total bottoming out (1-2 wins), most Nebraska fans feel he has, needs, and deserves another 2 years. It's the minority that still think they are at osu's level.

But they have the facilities and stadium to be on that level, so it's going to be much easier for them to get there than Purdue or iu imo. Their stadium is beautiful. NFL esc. I'd recommend the trip. Most Nebraska fans are awesome!

I support 10 year extensions for Scott Frost and Jeff Brohm. Football Archie Millers.

Time to make a first stab at 2022 IU football recruiting. Rivals & Peegs both have offer lists. This list is intended to be a condensed version of guys I feel IU has a legit shot at.

Again, I know only what I've read on-line---no personal knowledge. The comments about who 'leads', initially, are all from the 247 site. IU offers of Indiana players ranked by 247 & Rivals are noted as such.

Unfortunately, we've already lost out on some top Indiana prospects. #3 247 & Rivals OT Joey Tanona is a ND commit; #5/2 QB Brady Allen is a Purdue commit; Also, #1/1 DT Caden Curry & #2/6 OT Kiyaunta Goodwin are OSU leans.

I'd welcome comments about additions and deletions. Also, errors.

Bray Lynch of Austin, TX, 6'4" 280 OT (Rivals has as 6'5"), #88 player in TX per 247, is announcing July 9th between Duke, IU, and OK St.

He's visited Duke & OK St. I'm thinking he also recently visited IU, but I could be wrong on that.

VA DE Kyree Moyston committed to VT.

Is IU still really after LBs considering the 2 they already got plus McCullough (who could play it, depending on how he matures physically)? If so, are they looking for just 1 more?

pretty well done at LB

Arkansas fans are SALTY right now 😂

I see that Arkansas also has a higher rated TB in this class. I wonder if that's playing into it...

I've noticed that, in general, the SEC teams are kicking butt, including places like Arkansas & UK.

Some of the BT schools, like Nebraska & Wisconsin, aren't doing as well. Indiana & Rutgers are the surprises.

Yes, he will not, but seems we are in the driver’s seat for Monds
Looking CB's seems IU is trending for Monds III.

Wonder if that means we are out on Spells?

Heard on a podcast we will only take one of the two with Spells being 1st choice.

With either one to pair w/Trevell we can say it is a very good CB class.

Spells is a take either way, we would welcome all 3 with open arms. Safety is a little bit dicier at the moment

Do you know what the goal is for the number of “takes” per position?
There is a ”goal”, but that is fluid depending on how the chips fall. For instance, the “goal” was 2 CB, but if Monds and Spells both want to come , they will take 3. Targets change depending on who commits where, and now you have the portal to deal with also. So perhaps if you miss on a certain guy in a position group, but have a chance to pick up an extra guy you really liked in another position group, then maybe you take an extra guy who is too good to pass on (even though you had the desired number at that position already) and try to get a guy in the portal to fill your other need.

Thanks. Your reference above pertaining to safety is what prompted my question.

Monds reported offers from Neb, Wis, AS, Ark, Cincy, Kansas, KSU, MD, Miami, Michigan, MSU, Ms St., PSU, TN, Vandy, WT & WV, plus some lesser schools. The Nebraska rivals forum says he wasn't their highest priority because of his size, fwiw.

From my list, J. Lewis to ARK, Jointer to Ark, Durant to PSU, Spells to WV, M. Fries to Ill, M. Powell to ARK, J. Badie to ILL

Just a guess on my part as to who's how there that we may still have a legit chance at:

WRs: O. Cooper; G. Gaines; S.Miller

TEs: D. Lewis

OTs: K. Davis; L.Livingston; B. Mann(OT/DT); B. Lynch; T. Ramsey

G: DJ Moore

C: Taegue Anderson

DE: J. Strickland

DT. R. Harrison; J. Lyons; J. Marshall

OLB: M. Pollard

S. A. Brown

These guys seem like unlikely wildcards: G Jackson Pruitt; DE Mario Engenio; DE Sterling Lane; DE N. Kelly; DE C. Curry; DT A. Van Sumerern

Two TBs that we could probably get are J. Jennings from OH and D Trowers from FL. I don't think we get any others off my list, and I'm not sure how much we want these two guys, who are both smaller TBs. Not too concerned there, though, as we have good depth there.

I'm more concerned about DT. I was hoping for Marshall, but he looks like a Nebraska lean.

Not sure what's going on at Safety.

But....the 9 we have a great start. Signing date is not until mid-December. They'll be players that emerge in the Fall. If we have a good season, we'll be able to find another 11(?) or so.......and maybe we lean on the transfer portal at the TB & DT positions.
