Z on Fox

As you have pointed out, Medicare and Social Security are the albatross. Everything else is nibbling a long the edges. But it is nice to rewrite JFK:

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay no price, bear no burden, meet no hardship, support no friend, oppose no foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.
Yeah, we’re not going to solve this problem by laying off park rangers.

Until and unless we tackle our fiscal albatross, our quality of life is destined to decline no matter who’s in office.
The Office Lie GIF

That opposite is actually true. It doesn’t matter who is in office.

When the present value of future underfunding of Medicare and Social Security over the next 75 years, on its present track, is $175T…I’d say we’re in for some significant decline.

How that decline manifests is anybody’s guess. That it will manifest, absent some significant overhaul, is indisputable.

I meant you can personally protect yourself from it and increase your own living standard. I agree there will be some pain for the people left holding the bag.

I see that as wishful thinking. But I do wish you luck.
It’s not wishful thinking. I’ve seen you say several times you think they’re going to monetize the debt (I agree). I’m positioning myself for it. And the reaction to DOGE took the probability of that to 99.9999%. By the way, Bitcoin, isn’t the only asset that will do well. I personally just think it will outperform everything.

Too many people take the position that they will oppose everything Trump proposes. Calling Putin an asshole won’t end the war. That is what z wants and Trump ain’t gonna do it and he shouldn’t. Z would be in exile or dead if it weren’t for us and yet, with the backing of democrats and the likes of you twenty and mark, Z is emboldened to push around our President.

Now they are starting a national shitcoin reserve so I guess this country is really going up or down in flames.

You guys are dumb as shit. Z cancelled elections, rules under marshal law, comes to the White House and acts tough to boost his cred back home and you guys support that. ! Yeah let’s attack Trump and Vance and forget the objective of ending the war.

Trump gave Z a four-lane off ramp to make something of the end of war and idiots attack that because you are reflexively anti- Trump.

Once in a while it would be nice for the board to discuss big policy issues without discussing who advances them. But that is asking way too much if some of you clowns.
Z didn't cancel elections. They were cancelled by operation of Ukrainian law, which does not permit elections during martial law, which is ongoing after 14 consecutive approvals by the Ukrainian parliament.

Your take on Z is pretty bad to begin with, but now you're adding flat out misrepresentation.

He certainly wasn't complimenting him... 😎

I thought that was the funniest (fair) take on the whole debacle...

Hopefully the whole thing will turn out to be a teaching moment and the next time around the only one empowered to speak up (other than the President) will be Rubio...

They're still feeling their way about on this Statecraft stuff, in my opinion..

Z didn't have the willpower to keep his mouth shut either ( he had his own "Moment" too)...
The reaction of Rubio - stunned silence - and the Ukrainian Ambassador (head in her hands) says it all.

JD was say out of his lane. That should have been Rubio sitting next to Trump if they're going to have public negotiations.

Smerconish had on an admiral, name I do not recall, who said he thinks Zs mistake was not having a translator. He said that the line that set everything off fits Ukrainian sensibilities but doesn't translate directly to American in a way that doesn't sound more problematic. Smerconish that this made sense, that at Fox there was a translator off set and Smerconish clearly pauses and looks at them.
I noticed that, too, on the Baier interview.

I still don't know what set off JD. In an open discussion - which this was - telling all the times Russia didn't honor agreements doesn't seem to be insulting anyone.

I thought Z was just holding his ground the entire interview, as any leader of a country would do. I guess he didn't lavish enough praise on Trump or at least express his appreciation for the position Trump is in when it comes to trying to remain neutral.

Like others, I wonder why he went to DC to sign a supposed agreement that didn't include security agreements. I guess he thought he could talk Trump into those.

Bottom line is, Ukraine wants Russia out of Ukraine or some kind of demilitarized zone, with security guarantees from the US and Europe. Anything less means Russia wins, and Z and Ukraine aren't to that point yet, if ever.

I think Trump is wrong about Z not having any cards. They have Kursk, which isn't a small thing. They have enough arms and promises of European aid to at least hold even for a while. Who knows how long, but they can make a struggling Russian military bleed further.

Even a senile Biden lost it and cussed out Z because of the same crap he pulled with Trump and Vance.

The full parliament does not meet and I have no clue about how much members receive from our non- military aid. We pay to keep the government going and the members don’t get zero.

That’s not how you bring Russia to the table.

The elephant in the room was Russia. It was listening in real time. There are good reasons why Z shouldn’t be present when Trump and Putin meet.

Change the subject. Classic move.

Your statement that Z cancelled elections will remain a falsehood, whether you recognize it or not.

It was a silly posture for trump and jd to adopt. Get a deal done. Dont berate a man who has endured years of war. Who the F knows that guy’s mental state. He very well may be hopped up on goofballs. I’d be. I’m sure jd didn’t have the highest grade in law and psychology like I had but while trump may not have known better jd still should have known better

I could be wrong, but I think JD is impressed with himself, becoming VP and the most articulate guy in the administration.

Kind of like a smart class nerd that has grown up and finally gets the respect he thinks he's deserved.

He was never my pick for VP, but he's a good campaigner and, evidently, a loyal soldier for Trump. He probably thinks he's building a political base, but he's also pissing off a lot of people.

Yep, it's always the short guys you have to be careful with. You put them in a corner and they come at you like a honey badger.

Edit: Side note. I read they had a wonderful lunch planned and let the staff eat it instead. Probably crab legs.

And that’s the problem. You don’t want someone folding their arms that you’re negotiating with when you’re at an impasse. They put him in that posture.

Irrelevant Nit pic.

The fact is that elections were cancelled, z is in simpatico with what’s left of the parliament, we pay the freight for Ukrainian government operations, and z would be back on the comedy circuit without marshal law.

Any leader seeing his people suffer like he has isn't going to enjoy playing games.

The same people who hate diplomatic speech now hate him for keeping it real. Yes, it would have been great to keep his cool. At the same point, one can't fault him for trying to be clear that Ukraine had a deal in place after giving up on Crimea. Do we really want a desk so badly that we will concede every single point to Russia? We suddenly no longer accept Russia is a cyber security threat. Yet Russia dominates the ransomware attacks. What sort of negotiation is it if it requires us to kowtow on absolutely everything?

The getting to yes fad was in full swing at the organization when I became GC. While it had its uses in some settings, it was way overplayed.

Z hates Putin and he wasn’t going to agree to anything that didn’t involve calling Putin an asshole. Trump knew Putin was watching the meeting on live TV. That was obviously part of the show. Z had no clue.

Apparently Z had a pre- meeting with some democrats who convinced him to not agree with Trump. I’m old enough to remember when it came to foreign policy, it was good to present a united front.

No where in that article does it say Biden cussed out Zelenskyy. It says he raised his voice in frustration. That’s not a big deal AND it was private. These are not the same. Before the election I said MAGA’s growing anti-Ukraine, pro-Russia sentiments and former President Trump’s history didn’t bode well for Ukraine during a second Trump Presidency. You disagreed. Now you defend exactly what I said was coming.

I read it in grad school along with countless others. I was joking around. I’ve probably negotiated a thousand matters. Like the slash and burn approach to employment reduction this was ham-fisted as fck. You don’t “win” by coming off as aggressive with a man whose country was invaded and been in the throes of war for three years. What’s more you reconcile these differences in private prior to meeting. In the tort world you’d establish brackets before showing up. In that fashion 1) you know in advance whether it’s worth it to bother and 2) you save face for your clients

This was amateur hour. It was bungled. It was haphazardly constructed with a result in keeping with same

WE should be embarrassed and jd should have known better. My guess is he’s never tried a single matter and negotiated little more

so the killing, destruction, and misery just goes on, right? This personal vendetta/hate/revenge crap serves no purpose. Z had a clear path to a brighter Ukrainian future and he didn’t choose it. Instead he whined about Putin’s past sins and whined about Vance not understanding their suffering. That’s just great. The suffering will now continue and z is emboldened by American Democrats and some in the EU.

I think we should be out.

I think Trump thought that was done. From all objective available reporting, that was a reasonable assumption. Don’t forget z met with Democrats before this meeting. He flipped.
