Why did nearly 70 million people vote for Trump?

If there's one benefit of growing old it's wisdom, and the country could use a heavy dose of that right now. Our culture is too dismissive of the value of the elderly to our society, as evidence by the attitude of many to COVID.

Your resentment of public service is improvident. Particularly as we celebrate Veterans Day. But you are the guy who said it's all about the money.
My dad is a Vietnam vet. Uncles too. my entire family on both sides were in the military. in vietnam. in korea. your veterans day remark can go up your ass. Don’t compare fed politicians who become fabulously wealthy to civil servants. It’s disingenuous and really silly. The tab for these 500 plus people is 100 mil a year. “Service” is a joke. State elected officials. 36k. Drive hours to get there. That’s service.

As for age there’s a tipping point. I get wisdom but I also get wanting people in their prime. Biden is hardly in his prime. i sure as hell don't want an 80 year old lawyer trying my case. i don't want an 80 year old doctor doing my heart surgery. i don't want an 80 year old president either.

Stop. You aren’t really comparing politicians to school teachers are you? To be clear I respect and support and appreciate all civil servants. I don’t count fed politicians in the same breath as people working on the general schedule.
I don't understand what you're saying yet. You don't believe there's a need for political positions in human civilization and society?

I don’t like lifelong fed politicians. I’d rather see term limits.

Comparing your third grade teacher to a fed politician is silly on numerous fronts

No, I'm not comparing. Just responding to your words, which are the only input I have on here. You know, "Can your read this...thank a teacher" and all. 🤫

Again comparing a fed politician whose collective payroll is a 100 mil a year to teachers is silly. Comparing them to ees on the general schedule is silly.

These people raise one hundred million dollars to get their job. I personally help my kid’s teacher pay for school supplies for the year. Only one is in “public service.”

That has to rank as one of the funniest posts you have ever made. So the guy that stereotypes Mexicans as benefit-sucking rapists, demonized the first black president by (among other things) saying he wasn’t born in America, encouraged big white dudes with automatic weapons at rallies, etc., etc etc made skin color less important??? Much of his “brand” in rural and/or blue collar areas, as an example, is that “we” (ie white folk like me) will get the country back again. I just find it staggering that you think Trump has made, in any way/shape/or form, skin color less important.

You left out Trump accusing Ted Cruz's family of killing JFK, or his insults of old white generals. Trump stepped on toes in Western Europe too. Millions of people, like yourself, criticize Trump along the lines of your post. I suppose millions would like to see POTUS not speak in those terms--including your truly. . I and others who voted for Trump see the world in terms of issues, problems, and solutions rather than seeing skin color and hurt feelings. Trump took action in the Middle East where others only talked about it. Trump strengthened NATO while others perpetuated the relic that was born in Iron Curtain and divided Germany days. Trump created jobs and improved the incomes of all minorities in the US while others yammered about victims. The minorities who voted for Trump finally had a reason for that vote that went beyond being a black conservative. They saw more jobs, better wages, more capital investment, and prison and sentencing reforms. Trump enacted these and other policies when others only talked about them.

Once again, I was responding to your sentence. You have now qualified it. Instead of people who are paid by tax revenue, you have limited the target group substantially to only include politicians who are at the federal level, and who are too old.

Carry on.

At the same time they often share housing in DC because they cannot afford it otherwise. Their biggest perk is retirement.

175k a year. Amazing benefits. Amazing schedule. Amazing retirement. The opp to parlay it into great wealth. On and on. The guy in a cubicle at hhs getting general schedule bumps is in public “service.” These fed politicians, not so much.

A lot of people have postulated that Biden was the only person from the D primary who could have beaten Trump. Looking at the numbers, that certainly seems possible.

What I’m getting at is that we the voters bear some responsibility here. Whether it’s Trump, or Biden, or Clinton, we get the candidates that appeal to us. We all seem to be part of the problem.
Much easier to sit in Asia and call 70M people racists. Stop trying to use your head.

Thanks for clarifying your earlier post. I don't think it's a good comparison though between a president and a lawyer or doctor. A president's role is to make decisions. The perspective of years is a valuable asset in that regard.

Why is that? Somebody has to do it. They have a right to do it. There can't be an election every morning in every office to see who's in charge. That would be problematic. Caribbean pirates liked to vote

The free market, capitalist, conservative position would seem to be that politicians should be paid more, so that it is as appealing as big business in attracting the best and brightest minds.

I'm not advocating that, just saying it's logical, from a certain economic perspective.

Obama’s main problem was his inexperience. Ten more years and he’d have accomplished twice more, not that you’d have liked that.

This is appalling. Your elitism and holier-than-thou attitude is disgusting and I hope you never return to this land until you grow the hell up.

People vote for trump for a million reasons - they vote against the democrats, against the incoming wave of progressivism that is not good for America. People vote againt Kamala Harris, who is the most radical senator other than Sanders. And yes there are some dickwad racists that vote for him. There are also people on the radical left that burn down businesses and shoot off duty cops. In Singapore does that mean all democrats are murderers?

You don’t live here. You don’t get it. My friends abroad were like you until this election and now they realize (because they have common sense) that it isn’t always about Trump - it’s also about voting against the other team and is a sad reality of a two party system. They know, for some reason you don’t, that 70M people aren’t likely to be racist in aggregate. You can’t consider that, while you snipe from Asia?
That has to be the tightest grouping ever. If this was a race it would be a photo finish for all contestants.

Some of these people, not all, either left jobs making much more or could get jobs making much more. $188,000 is great, but they usually keep a residence in the home state and of course one in DC. Frankly there should be a congressional dormitory.

As to benefits, they liked their old health plan more. Now they get 72% of an ACA Gold plan paid for. It isn't near as good as their old federal employee's plan, https://www.cnbc.com/2017/07/25/her...-congress-pay-for-their-health-insurance.html.

My issue isn't what they make, it is how much time they have to spend panhandling. The story below is from four years ago, our reps needed to raise $18,000/day. That is just for themselves, they have to raise national money on top of that. We need elected officials doing their job, not spamming us. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/60-minutes-are-members-of-congress-becoming-telemarketers/

lol. He took action in the ME or Israeli leadership took action to try to help another hardliner look good leading up to an election by making formal peace with a nation they had all but a formal peace agreement with already? Okay. Haha.

What evidence do you have that he strengthened NATO bedside him just saying he did? Lol

He cut taxes and regulations to grease an already humming post-recession economy. W did the same but diff results? Oh ya, they inherited different economies. Yay, Trumps triumph was the economy he inherited and greased. The rising tide raised a lot of boats...until it didn’t. lol. And then there is his gift to our nation’s debt. Obama left with a 2.4% deficit/ gdp in 2015. Trump juiced that to 4.6% pre-covid. That’s just good business!

Prison reform did not start with Trump and it will continue after him. So ya, he does get credit for keeping that going.

Dude, you are so bad at this.

Do you understand how old it gets to have an opinion different than democrats, progressives and the left and be shouted down with racist, homophobe, xenophobe and all the other phobes most every time?

I know call me a snowflake now. If I was a snowflake I’d be a Amishman slopping the hogs right now with all the name calling I endured as a youth. As an adult I am sick of it. I only had one child, a son who’s 26. I spoiled him rotten because I didn’t want him to have any struggles like I dealt with. We had one understanding, should he ever mistreat someone and act like he was better then them, all his spoiling would stop.

Stoll, I was only responding to you because you quoted a post from mcm666 that was in response to me. I was 1/2 jerking his chain (which is a total improvement on my part), so I didn't want you to have a full on conniption based on banter between two assholes (yes, you, 66). Save your full conniptions for the real radicals. Relax, as soon as T.rump concedes, the market will really take off, and Covid will go away.

this is only a message board with a bunch of anonymous posters. who gives a shit what they say. it's a way to kill time between phone calls and bathroom breaks since so many of us lost our real water coolers to kill time with coworkers. don't take any of it to heart. most of the bullies on here would coward anywhere other than behind the safety of a message board.

so, new prez. not your choice. but you have to give the guy a chance. no "not my prez" nonsense. unless and until he does something we don't like let's root for him. we're in it together. with that vaccine news and a new admin that will hopefully be less divisive it feels like a fresh start. and remember biden isn't aoc and the crowd. i think he's going to be okay for everyone
