outside of impeachment or a diagnosed mental breakdown, is there nothing that can be done before 2028? seems like the UK were going through prime ministers every 6 months. is there anything in the constitution to get rid of a president for simply being incompetent?

When the electorate knowingly elects an incompetent moron, said electorate doesn’t deserve the opportunity to fire him

No, there is no mechanism for the electorate to remove an incompetent. When the Founders designed the Electoral College, they expected it to be made up of sober men selected by the states for the sole purpose of using their knowledge and wisdom to select the best choice for President. It didn't occur to them that political winds and changing election procedures might eventually result in nominating and then electing Mr. Potato Head.
