The Trump Org kept a spreadsheet basically "what we told the IRS we paid" and "what we really paid". The feds have that document. At this point, isn't it at least plausible this is fraud and not "oops, we forgot to report that"? Which brings up the question, do people get criminal penalties for tax fraud.

Like Ranger I hope you've got a crystal ball. However, if Weisselburg doesn't flip or the case doesn't develop then the optics for the Dems are going to be bad and could lead to some kind of backlash. Maybe not. Who knows.
This case makes me a bit nervous b/c, as others have pointed out, the vast majority of similar cases are resolved civilly and probably negotiated by the defendant and IRS. If it looks like the NY AG/Manhattan DA are singling out the Trump Org or fishing to find something, it could go sideways.
