True or False? Next year will be pretty much the same as this year.

If I can set my expectations, perhaps I won't have these wild mood swings after every game (win or lose). I mean, if I know we're gonna basically suck, at least I can prepare myself.

I'm thinking it will be exactly the same.

Even if everyone stays and gets better, we will still be playing small ball. You can't win squat in the B1G (or, the NCAA-T) without a serviceable big man. Unless CTC pulls a rabbit of of his bag of tricks with a late big-man get, .... well, I'm afraid we'll see the same results .... some exciting wins, some devastating losses, and another mediocre season.

Bad recruiting. This is ALL on Crean. And we're all stuck in Groundhog's Day. I wish I was wrong.

True - you can't win with zero defense

It doesn't matter what happens offensively. When you cant guard anyone and just let your man drive around you into the lane, there is really no chance to win consistently. Crean doesn't care about defense.

Besides recuiting BIGS, Crean needs to recruit tough-minded players. We are way too soft and have been for years.

I'm sure Troy Williams will be gone after this season.... 60% chance Yogi and Blackmon stay. If they all stay I would think we would have to be favored to win the B1G next year.

not sure if i dread playing with "freedom" or his pressers more

god, he's just so smug as he sits there with 9 loses and no good road wins. oh, we were just doing what we do, few more shots go in and it's a different story.

he's truly an anti-hero

It's hard to imagine it being better because Crean has zero

recruiting momentum, and I think one of the big names is going to bail for one reason or another.(just a hunch).

I think we will be a little better

if all the important players stay because the freshmen will get better but it won't be enough to make us a championship contender.

True. Unless they land Thomas Bryant.

IU has exceeded my expectations this year. I didn't see them as a tourney team with no big man. So I'll readily admit that I was wrong (as long as they do in fact make the tournament). I think Troy has made a positive impact, despite his sub-par game last night. If we lose out, God forbid, then we'll be right where I thought we'd be.

As for next year, if we bring everyone back, I think it's fair to predict a similar season. We will be more experienced and slightly bigger with the addition of the two freshmen and hopefully Devin Davis returns to full health. Bringing back an undersized but experienced team, IU could win an important resume builder or two in Maui and maybe one or two more in preseason. Then an average to above average B1G season puts us right back in the same position. Those that see IU making a major improvement...I have to disagree.

Also, looking back at the big men that were available as transfers this past year, were there any that would have made a difference? I don't remember all of the misses, but I do remember Anthony Lee (bust), Justin Martin (left SMU), and Trevor Thompson (would have been eligible next year).

So unless someone becomes available for a year or Crean lands Thomas Bryant (unlikely) or Thon Maker (not gonna happen), I would say IU will be the same or very slightly better next year (if everyone returns).

Maybe Crean will land a couple top 5 lotto picks

And three or four other guys who were good enough to play some type of pro ball. Look out if that happens. He could parlay that into another Sweet 16 loss. More banners and rings on the way!

Re: Maybe Crean will land a couple top 5 lotto picks

Yah, it still stings looking back at that team. That team had some truly great players on it and deserved a Final Four run. Hard to believe how absolutely inept we were against that Syracuse zone.

you just had to go there didn't you.... thought about that last night...

True ... if
1. Crean stays
2. No Big Man added to roster
3. Regardless of any other roster changes...

False.... if
1. Crean moves on.
2. A Big Man is added to the current roster and no one leaves for NBA
3. Defense is a major point of emphasis for next years team.

or

1. Crean stays and decides to change his ways.... SG/PG/W/PF/C... no more 3/4 guard lineups...dump dribble drive
2. A Big Man is added to the current roster and no one leaves for NBA
3. Defense is a major point of emphasis for next years team.

Wow.... what a BLEAK outlook... thanks for nothing....

Re: True - you can't win with zero defense

Other than bigs this team has the athleticism to be very good defensively. They just don't put the effort in. that's on the coach.

Re: True or False? Next year will be pretty much the same as this year.

yep the inbreads will suck next year too!! Please give coach Clappy a raise , he deserves it putting up with the fans in this sad state !! Maybe you guys should drop down to division two !! Or do us all a favor and quit basketball all together !! OH wait you all ready have HA HA !!

I'll go false--we might actually be worse.

Other B1G rosters are better set up than we are, and they're not going away. We very well could be back to the 17-15 no postseason team of last year next year. (We also drew a huge scheduling break in not having to play WIS twice, and not going to MINN, IOWA and PSU--places we've mightily struggled.)

And the team that worries me next year is ILL (they could be real good). They could easily do to us in Bloomington next year when we did to them in Champaign.

Put it this way--we only have two home losses now. With WIS and ILL likely on the home slate next year, that's potentially two losses right there. If AJ doesn't go pro we likely lose to PUR twice next year. Plus we're likely drawing UCLA and/or KAN in Maui, so our OOC schedule will be beefed up (not to mention we'll get a road ACC game, and Crean's still exploring a series with LOU which may or not be part of the Challenge).

If everyone stays, it might be better....but not good enough

This whole team coming back would have some really good players. Blackmon, Ferrell, Williams, Johnson....plus a few other talented kids. That's a great start, but no quality bigs will still be the defining problem unless Crean lands someone unexpected.

Re: True. Unless they land Thomas Bryant.

First off they won't all be back. Secondly when you don't place defense your not going to win the big ten As far as a big crean will get the typical spring recruit that San Jose state was after until we came in and swooped him away. Fred glass should have been fired yesterday!

Getting Devin back will be the only inside change.

Davis returning and Holt continuing to develop.

But it will still be 2 4s playing against 5s. And neither of then well see the floor with HMP at the same time.

Actually, I'm wrong about the sked.

Here's our B1G conference slate next year:

Home: Maryland, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue
Away: Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Rutgers
Home/Away: Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin

So we only get PUR once, but get WIS and ILL twice.

Re: Getting Devin back will be the only inside change.

Davis is 6'6 so still huge size problems. Its priller and April time!! Hidden gems baby

My guess is that there is mass exodus after this year from key players, other than the ones that are expected to be "Creaned".

We should hire Archie Miller from Dayton
