Musk/Twitter Document Dump

Hardly. Can't defend Elon so going with an inaccurate yabbut?
You should be the one defending him. I can understand wanting to shut down the account that doxxed him after his child was threatened by a leftist nut bag this week, but maybe not the journalists.

However, the complaining that the news organizations are doing now was our point then.

Never cared much that a private company reserved its underground printing press for its favored opinions. But … did Twitter become a state actor? What if a President or Speaker or a Majority Leader had used the IRS and DOJ to coerce Twitter into banning dissenting voices - would you change teams? Would that change things?

Remember the “counter culture” printing presses of the 1960’s campuses? If they’d had cell phones, how many more than 4 would have been dead in O-high-O? Or would they have won the anti-Vietnam War war and it would never have been even 4?

Quick. Name a pro-King George Tory Twitter that operated against the anti-King George Twitter of the Sam Adams Secesh boys. I’m sure they existed, but we don’t remember them.

How many printing press operators were beaten or murdered over slavery? When does an opposing opinion gain or lose enough value to be violenced quiet? When will YOU and ready to to head for the barricades and use the guillotine against the voices you don’t like? Have you taken the first step - deeming yourself different? Second step - deeming yourself right? Third step - deeming them lesser? If your Twitter post subjected you to violent protest at your home or business, would ya? Do ya?

There might be a good question about how public flight information is, but it is currently public information. As we all know from IU's coaching searches. I don't know how much a Twitter ban will impact that.

Was it proven the nutbag was a leftist or just an assumption? Either way, he should get charged.

When leftists have nutbags, we don't protect them or put them on pedestals or create false stories or yabbuts for their defense. And we definitely don't elect them to office. You conservatives should try it with your nutbags

You don't protect them because you refuse to acknowledge they even exist. That isn't my point though, my point is that A)I don't think that Musk should have banned the journalists but B)people like you have ZERO right to complain or call him out on anything because he is doing EXACTLY what you defended when it benefited your team.

My point was, is, and will remain the same: certain social media platforms have become the defacto public square and Twitter is one of them. Presidents announce policy, scientists argue science, politicians and activists push points of view, Tweets are THE story in so many pieces of "journalism" these days that having it controlled by someone who curates the site based on politics is a defacto rights violation, particularly when that curating is being completed at the behest of politicians and government agencies (or multinational corporations and billionaires).

Elon is a hypocrite. However he is acting in the exact same manner that you have defended for years. So what changed for you?

I've seen no one on this thread do anything but call Elon a hypocrite since this latest news came. In fact I said it's his right to ban whomever he wants. His company, his prerogative. I'm not sure what else you would want. Seems like we are all in agreement here.

Just playing devils advocate but I think our Trumpster brothers were more concerned about the alleged Hunter Biden laptop story suppression. I bet they were not happy that their beloved leader was banned, but I think this thread was started because of the Hunter Biden stuff. could be wrong.
The Hunter Biden crime scene documentary is freely available to anyone with even miniscule curiosity.

Many here have no curiosity.

You have the right answer, it is his company. I have no issues with him banning people if they violate rules. I have a little issue with banning people because they don't like Musk, but it is his company so that issue doesn't matter too much.

But going to what Crazy said, we might want a serious debate about why people use Twitter so much for things "official". I don't care if simpletons like us debate policy on Twitter any more than here. But I'd hope real decision-makers are getting information elsewhere. And if not, we need to stop them from being real decision-makers.

Twitter has always been a state actor. The 'revelation ' that 14 'former' FBI agents,
and 'former' DOJ lawyer James Baker were 'employed' by Twatter, all hired since President DJT was elected,
Illustrates the disdain government has for our Constitutionally established rights.

Lol this is rich. You were clueless about blm, riots, grift, etc. You refuse to acknowledge them. Hell you probably don’t even read about them. Ignorant. Willfully ignorant. Makes little difference

Yeah, remember when you condemned the riots and harassment of innocent people during the summer of love?

I don't, but I'm sure you surely did, right?

I said multiple times that people who committed crimes should be punished.

Maybe you have memory problems

It's not his company. It's not a 'private' company and never was.

It's a publicly owned company of shareholders.

I can't believe you all have gotten away with this 'private company' argument.

You can go back and read what I posted.
You have not refuted the statement yet.

And Elon claiming that in crazy's words "a leftist nutbag had threatened his child" is certainly hyperbole based on the ridiculous notion that knowing that Elon is supposedly in a city the size of LA suddenly equates to knowing his exact location. Or that his child was travelling in a specific vehicle...

Guess he should be grateful his child wasn't in a Tesla, who ran into a angry pit bull...

I do recall - back in the day - even before the W v. Obama campaign - Hugh Hewitt telling folks in the GOP to learn to use Twitter, that it would be the political messaging-weapon of the future (I wonder if he intended "weapon" as it NOW seem to be used?) and "if you win big, they can't cheat."

Musk bought 100% of the company. There is no longer any Twitter stock to buy. Since I seriously dislike Twitter, I never would have bought any anyway.

It's only a matter of time before he takes it public, but OK - you are correct.

It was still publicly traded before he bought it, so it wasn't a private company then.

So this site has a search function which allows you to search for posts from specific posters. So feel free to link to any of this board's non MAGA types who posted support for illegal activities during that period you mentioned.

Meanwhile, I think a cursory examination of posts from MAGA/ conspiracy theorists in the threads concerning the attack on Paul Pelosi will reveal a number of posts either supporting or excusing the attack on Pelosi while also promoting a number of bizarre Conspiracy theories in the process. I won't accuse you off hand because I can't honestly remember but it's certainly the type of posting you're capable of...

So should we compare posts on the two topics, regarding illegal acts? Are you up for the challenge? Compare what folks like Mas posted here, with the reality revealed in court, by police body cams and witnesses?

You are babbling. I don't need to go back and do a search to know Hickory didn't condemn violence during the Summer of Love and neither did you.

You know why? Because I have a memory.

Twitter is been permanently ruined.

Half of the academic and research community that I follow (followed) have fled the platform, and many others are contemplating an exodus.

I also follow some political pundits and many of those have fled also.

Mastodon and Post seem to be two emerging alternatives.

Yeah, that kind of hurts your 'research', doesn't it?

The platform is no longer moderated. Anti-Semitism isn't pulled. Racism reigns. Bullying is everywhere. People troll threads with porn, even. Yet Elon doesn't seem concerned, other than with criticism of HIM, leading to banning media critics of him.

You can praise Hitler and your tweets survive. Criticize or even just tell the truth about Elon and POOF you go.

I remember when the Nazi's marched in Skokie

I remember when the Klan handed out flyers in Bloomington

When Twitter started, it was fun.

Then politics stole it and its been a daily shit storm ever since.

When IU fans re-twit Rex Chapman, King Rex, Big Blue Nation Rex, the world is officially upside down.

So y'all created this - deal with it (or link me to your posts about the twitter rights of rednecks and concealed carry advocates and anti-maskers, and all the others who were removed by twit-er everywhere).

I also highly doubt that racism and porn suddenly popped up over night. It really just boils down to the idea that the club door got kicked in and ruined the circle jerk.

Outside did touch on what I said earlier though, "All my science friends were there and we talked sciencey science in 240 character snippets" and if "real" scientific discussion was occurring and people with differing POV's were being banned, that is a bad thing. It leads to group think. And now, upset that their group think bubble has burst, they are all running to another site for group think.

If you are (SAY) a Professor Goldberg and have a thread to discuss your latest research paper, do you want a string of antisemitic remarks in reply? If your profile picture shows you to be a person of color, do you want KKK remarks in reply? If you follow Elon because you like Telsa, do you want to see his unhinged conspiracy theories?

I don't follow anyone who was, to my knowledge, banned. They are just exiting the rat-infested ship that is on fire.
