This is the problem. This isn't, or shouldn't, be a team sport. This would be the perfect opportunity for Trump. The dude just about had his heap popped like a melon, stood up with a raised fist and bloody face in front of the flag in a photo so dramatic that you couldn't have planned it better. They guy won all the chips at the table.
How about now take the damn high road? Call for a healing. Lament the divisions that led to this. Etc, etc, etc. He'd come out looking far better than the snarling Donald Trump going on and on about punishing those who dare defy him. Seize the opportunity to be a voice of unity. Don't make yourself into an even worse version of what people think you are.

As to what I have seen since the event, He hasn't said anything other than I am going to Milwaukee, I can't let this stop me. I wanted him coming out with another rally today with a major FU statement. He has seemed to tone it down, much more than I would suggest. But you are worried that he celebrated NOT BEING KILLED? Nope, no words.
This isn’t about intelligence, it’s about character.
I was okay with him raising his fist in a show of strength and to let everyone know he’s fine, but the continuous pumping of his fist and yelling “fight” was too much. It felt like I was watching a movie about “the candidate” where this candidate never misses an opportunity to further his brand, even in the wake of tragedy. Quiet humility and stoicism is not something Trump believes in nor is able to recognize as a sign of strength.
I disagree. He was shot. In that moment his natural response was to fight. That’s a quality. That’s American. Incidentally they just pulled the players off the field at the copa and locked down hard rock

It’s one thing for smears, bribery of federal agents, etc…, to take the high road (to a degree), but when the opposition wants to and is willing to use deadly force, you better be ready to leverage your platform and megaphone however possible.
I can’t understand how some people don’t grasp this basic concept: when fighting in a dirty fight, which politics have always been, you better be ready to fight dirty because the stakes are life/desth.
