Goat's POLS Thread for Mature Adults

I had calmed down today thinking this was essentially in the bag. Now Steve Kornacki is showing me how AZ and NV may not be as solid a lock as I thought. OTOH, he's also showing me how we still actually do have a chance in GA. Now my guts are churning and my bowels are in an uproar. I'm going to see if the ol' battleax has any of her good meds she can spare. Fvck.
I still have bourbon

His immigration stance (both legal and illegal) is far removed from Reagan. Reagan also opposed trade wars against allies, https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/ronald-reagan-demagogues-trade-war/
What’s happening at the border is a continuation of the Obama era policy. Reaganism doesn’t define conservatism. It’s a sphere of influence - it’s not the end all be all.

And it sticking to traditional conservative values doesn’t make him extreme - on the contrary - by not following conservatism to the Nth degree he can’t be extreme. He’s a populist - a category to which we’re not used. And he’s an awful person and leader.

Fellow Democrats: what do you think of Stacy Abrams for DNC chair? Win or lose she has done fantastic work.

Besides the age thing, I don't get the hating on Nancy. I think she's badass.
I adore Nancy. I really was angry at people challenging her in 2018 . I was hoping she’d be mentoring someone new to take over in 2020.

26% of Floridians earn less than $10/hour. I'm guessing at least some of them are Republicans, but I can guarantee virtually all of them think their pay sucks.
One thing that stood out to me last night while watching FL go to Trump, was an exit poll that said 62% of Floridians think the economy is good/great. I was under the impression that Covid decimated the economy in FL with the tourism industry. Biden was always bringing up the job losses there. I just wrote it off at the time to Trump voters being delusional. Am I missing something?

If she can organize, administer, and raise money, then sure. Being a good candidate, campaigner, or advocate isn't part of the job description.

I changed to CNN after that. Lol

Nancy has done a phenomenal job of reining in the more extreme factions within the caucus without damaging the coalition and allowing them to have meaningful participation. The tightest of ropes to walk. And on top of that, she can make DJT show his ass on command.

I think she has been doing all of those things in GA. I didn’t think she had nearly the experience for VP, but I’d like her in this position.

She did pwn the Donald pretty hard the past two years. Gotta give her credit for that.

Yep if Trump stayed in I’d definitely want her back.

Never run out of booze during a close election.

AZ going to end up very close. Trump pretty much right where he needs to be on the Saturday/Sunday ballots, and now they are going to count/report the Monday/Tuesday ballots. The party shift between the two batches will determine whether or not Trump can catch up.

Fox clearly called Arizona too early.

Yeah, watching this my anxiety level is going through the roof.

After surfing channels during both 2016 and now 2020 I am fond of the way CNN covers the elections.

Unlike it's general political news coverage, when it comes to election reporting the In depth analytics are terrific. Factored into the reporting are past election results on a county wide basis with emphasis on swing districts.

They haven't called all the states yet, but it looks very much like the Senate will come down to the Georgia runoffs. Once Fulton finishes reporting, Perdue will probably be just short of 50, which means both races will go to runoffs. GOP will likely be up 50-48 at that point.

I like CNN's coverage. But I miss the days of David Gergen. I also like MSNBC. We also watch ABC some because my wife likes George.

I gave them a look during the primaries and thought the panel discussions were more argumentative than informative.
I didn't watch them at all during the primaries. I mostly didn't watch them last night, because the first time I flipped to them, one of the panelists was Cillizza, so I was like, "I'm out." But I've seen some coverage tonight that wasn't terrible.

I'm still flipping mostly between MSNBC and Fox, but Hannity is making it really hard to stay on Fox for longer than a few seconds.

PSA: Trump Camp Uses Online Gimmick to Fuel Donations Into December
The Trump campaign is now automatically checking a box to create recurring weekly donations from supporters until mid-December.

President Trump’s campaign is raising money for a prolonged political and legal fight long after Nov. 3 and recently began automatically checking a box to withdraw additional weekly contributions from online donors through mid-December — nearly six weeks after Election Day.

Predicting “FRAUD like you’ve never seen,” the language on Mr. Trump’s website opts contributors into making the weekly post-election donations “to ensure we have the resources to protect the results and keep fighting even after Election Day.” Users must proactively click to avoid making multiple contributions.

The unusual post-election revenue stream would help Mr. Trump pay off any bills that his campaign accumulates before Tuesday — a campaign spokesman said no such debts had been incurred — and could help fund a lengthy legal fight if the results are contested.

“This race will be very close, and it is possible that multiple states will require recounts and potential additional spending from our campaign,” said Tim Murtaugh, a spokesman for Mr. Trump’s campaign. “The election process this year is under extraordinary circumstances, and we are also anticipating that Silicon Valley will attempt to interfere with our online fund-raising efforts post-election.”

I watched some hannity tonight. Priming the lawsuit/cheating pump. Maybe I’m naive but I just don’t see how states who can barely organize an election can coordinate an elaborate scheme to cheat and not have anyone spill the beans
