"Welcome to the end of Democracy"

In my absence, I've missed what has been said about Trump claiming that he quite frankly did win the 2020 election. Is there a cliff notes version?

If any of his attempts to overturn the election would have been successful, our democracy, by definition, would have ended.
It would be bad, but it wouldn't have "ended" "our democracy."

Of course but that kind of commentary is inappropriate at a political rally unless it's clergy offering a prayer or invocation at the beginning or end. And who the hell is this guy? An antisemitic, pro-Putin, lying conspiracy theorist, white supremacist sympathizer. Doesn't sound very Christian to me. But I get what's going on here. It's part and parcel of the Christian Nationalist movement that's within MAGA.

She talks too much. She had a strong case, she got the win and she should let the case speak for itself. That said, the comparison you're trying to make is out of left field. Those are entirely different situations.

Correct on the first point. He's not interested in a theocracy. He wants an autocracy. But you're wrong about his faith. He is definitely religious - - during election season. Lol. He referred to himself at CPAC as "a proud Christian." What a joke. He probably couldn't quote a single passage from the New Testament. And his behavior throughout his adult life? Not very Christ-like.
Jesus Effing Christ. With this blustering nonsense you’re right in line for the next open cabinet position. Clean yourself up. You missed a spot.

Do the people at that convention speak for all Republicans? I certainly never said that, you seem to be suggesting it.

If a person or group says they want to kill you, or they want to destroy democracy, believe it. If the Republicans put that in their platform, so be it.
Jack Poso is a nerd. I guarantee he was beat up on a regular basis.

Like defund the police?

Isn't that a fair comparison? I bet our bitcoiner took that very seriously.
I can’t speak for him.

Both of the major parties have a lot of intelligent members. They very rarely discuss economic issues. Why? Because there is disagreement among members of the same party. The culture stuff is virtually 100 percent agreement. That is why we hear that stuff non-stop

I'm waiting for the day when you post something that has more value than what I flush down the toilet every morning.
Make stupid posts, get stupid replies. Trump is a scoundrel, awful, but you people that keep bleating about autocracy, dictatorship, blah blah blah are either so stupid you shouldn’t be voting or disingenuous trolls. Either deserve shitty, stupid replies. If he is elected, he will serve 4 years, probably screw some stuff up, although much less than your guy Joe, & then go grift money from his fans. Just stop with the end of democracy crap.

if he wins he'll pardon himself. relax from the stress of the last few years. play golf. age quickly. sate his narcissism. do little. screw a few things up. get people to donate more money to him. and leave office having been a massive upgrade from joe and his band of goofballs

Just catching up on this Beaut of a thread. Per my score card, @Hoopsdoc1978 coming with fire and bringing hell with him, by landing both "democratic Spastic Convulsions" and "Limp wristed sissy". Now, back to you Howard Cosell, we are watching magic before our very eyes here.

Whenever someone lies to me, I immediately think less of them. I'm also less likely to believe them the next time they make a claim. After more lies are told, I begin to ask myself, "is he that dumb, or does he think I'm that dumb?" And once someone tells a few more lies, I kinda feel sorry for the person because I realize they have some serious mental issues and probably can't help themselves.

for biden and trump lying has just become second nature.

Please note I didn't mention anything about a politician in my post. I realize that most people lie. I realize that most politicians lie. I realize that most(read:all) presidents have lied.

Is a lie, a lie? Should they all be treated as equivalent? "Read my lips", "I did not have sexual relations with that woman", "according to the NYT, we now know SH has..."(DC's on MtP...paraphrase...don't want to be accused of lying), and "no, honey, those pants don't make your ass look big", are they equivalent? Of course not.

Intent matters. Results matter. Trump lied on election night. He intended to lie, to deceive, and to remain in power. He lied about the results. He lied about the voting machines. He lied about ballot boxes being stuffed. He lied to his AG. He lied to his VP. He lied about Jan 6. He lied about it being a peaceful protest even as his own followers were shot and killed. He blamed the violence on ANTIFA, but wants to pardon the patriots.

He didn't remain in power because of people like Bill Barr and MP. DT lost. He attempted to subvert democracy before, during, and after. And still no concession.

If Trump wins legitimately, I'd hope that what Raskin is saying here doesn't come to pass. That said, I can't read the entire article you linked because you need to be a subscriber to the Atlantic to do so.

That said, it's hard knowing if Jack Prosebiec is ever being sarcastic. He's an idiot who will say anything for his brand and to get clicks. It's not clear that he was
He really gets in your head, doesn't he?

politicians are the context of the discussion. it's inferred. biden has lied about the border, lied about debt, has lied about energy practices, along with a host of other matters. all of which impact the lives of americans. as you said results matter. we all suffer the consequences of these lies whether they be deceptive practices to garner votes or policy decisions that have a deleterious impact on our lives.

to my view biden's lies have a daily, material impact on our lives and in that way are far more siginificant than trump's which are largely self-serving. what's more his lies were effectuated through "the system" by way of court cases etc. this isn't new with politicians. he surrendered to the courts. he participated in 61 cases. today he is participating in four more actions, some of which appear to fail the smell test for politicial motivation. he isn't holed up on the island behind a miliitia calling for action. he is working within the system. and he left dc.

so as to lies, yet again, it depends on your partisan perspective, what you value, what you expect, and what you’re willing to excuse

Trump is a bad person. And a bad president. In my view Biden is also a bad person but a much worse president. as unfortunate as it is for all of us i'll take the former

Trump, as president, tried to illegally overturn an election he lost. I can’t believe I need to say this, but that’s indicative of a leader who doesn’t give a shit about American democracy. He can’t be trusted anywhere near the Oval Office again.

But who cares what I think about it? Who cares what you think, for that matter? How about many of the people who know him well and worked with him during his administration, including respected military men, who say he’s dangerous, a national security risk, and can’t be trusted. Only a fool and/or someone who doesn’t give a shit about democracy would blow that off.

Finally, I couldn’t care less about your petty insults, but taking the Lord’s name in vain is pretty effing low.

I had not thought of that, first take that is an excellent point. It fits how Aloha, Noodle, and Twenty are RINO because they want less government in economic terms but aren't cultural warriors.

Cultural issues tend to be all or nothing. It really fits black and white thinking.

Is an opinion a lie? Because what you're ascribing to Trump are his opinions.

By the way, he said to go peacefully to protest. He didn't say it was peaceful - he was trying to make it so.

Well and it’s more understandable and perhaps personal to voters

It’s clickbait fear porn from a dickhead because he knows it will send guys like you into spastic convulsions.

I know if I wanted to end democracy(whatever that means), the first thing I would do is tell the whole world I want to end democracy. 😂
So, you're saying Trump is lying when he says that stuff.

lol…..I actually think it’s the opposite. I disagree on there being much of a difference when it comes to economic issues. Liberals love spending and most conservatives have given up on fiscal responsibility and aren’t far behind them. Covid spending was the final straw. We just ran a 500+ billion deficit last quarter and nobody cares. I think it’s insane, but most people think I’m insane. So….instead we argue over cultural issues and superficial stuff.

Absolutely, 100%, he is a known liar. He’s trolling you, & you’re dumb enough to fall for it.
You're wrong. His supporters cheer loudly when he says that stuff. They think he's going to try to do it -- otherwise, no cheering,

I understand your point. I don't agree that the definition of truth/deceit should be dismissed as being formed from bias. A fact is a fact. An alternative fact is not a fact.

Donald Trump lost the election. Donald Trump lied to try to remain in power. Donald Trump continued to lie even after he was told he was lying. Donald Trump still lies about it to this day.

Those are facts.

Donald Trump is not in power.

That is a fact. However, it isn't proof that he willingly left office. All the other facts let us know that he failed in his attempt to remain. Those are facts, whether we are D's or R's.

What facts does that leave him? He didn't get the military involved? That's a pretty low bar considering our customs/traditions.

he didn't get the military involved as he willingly left. that's a fact. he sought redress by filing petitions in the various courts. that's a fact. and when charged surrendered himself to custody. that's a fact. together that evidences someone working within the system

Again. The fact that he did these things are very low bar. What alternatives did he have?

if you believe the paranoid, refuse to leave dc. call on the gander mountain guerilla force to arm themselves and take a stand in dc. shoot. then hole up on the island refusing to surrender for booking behind a militia.

what we do know is that he did none of those things. instead he petitioned the various courts for redress. i.e. he stayed within hte system. then when charged and sued, w/ an argument to be made w/ political motivation, he again complied. so we have evidence of what he actually did, while others call for speculation of what "he will do" while ignoring what he actually did. it defies logic

I bet our bitcoiner took that very seriously.
Season 9 Thank You GIF by The Office

That’s the most endearing comment you have made towards me.
