Walmart and Lowe’s both come out and say that Trump’s proposed tariffs will raise prices for consumer goods. This is obvious to anyone who understands the most basic concepts of economics, but I fear a lot of people are gonna learn the hard way.

More importantly, do we think Trump will follow through? If so, how big will he go?

I watched buy now on Netflix last night. Basically talked about how consumption’s out of control. Electronic goods like laptops and phones are intentionally sealed so they can’t be repaired etc. intentional obsolescence. the mountains of apparel we buy. I see it with my daughter literally. Just a few months ago she had a shirt in the trash. I said why did you throw that away. She goes eh it frayed. I wore it twice. That was enough. I go what?! She goes dad. It was $11.

It was a Shein special. That’s how an entire massive co is viewed. Throw away apparel. If gap has 12,000 new pieces a year Shein has 1.2 million. Companies who produce shit like that, fashion, cheap light manufacturing, won’t come back here they’ll go to countries outside of China. Steve Madden is already doing it.

85 percent of the shit at Walmart is made in China. If prices go up maybe we’ll consume less. Climate zealots will appreciate that

But yes there will be sticker shock. Presumably revenue raised from that, gov slashing, etc will reduce our tax burden keeping more money in our pockets right? Bc if prices are just going to go up , again, and there’s no offset voters won’t tolerate that. Pubs will be gone

Basic concepts of economics...and history. The 80's and the "buy local" movement doesn't seem so long ago to me.

The American people voted for a service economy with their ballots and their pocketbooks. Buyer's remorse?

We want: good paying jobs, cheap goods, low taxes, entitlements, no debt, and the government to do as little as possible. Good luck with that.

Here’s the political problem with that. The average American will walk into stores weekly and feel the increased prices because of the tariffs each time they hit the register. When will they see a personal benefit for greater government efficiency and lower taxes? Which are both by the way theoretical while the increased prices are a certainty.

We also want payroll taxes, benefits, flsa, Fmla, osha, workers comp, unions, and 9-5 work.

He's going to go as far as he can with these tariffs. He did it in his first term. Biden kept a lot of it in place and Trump will build on them and add more back into the mix.

Agriculture was already pounded the first time around, and it will be worse the second time.

What are stupid consumer products? It’s not all Walmart junk. It’s big box home improvement stores. It’s electronics. It’s cars.

Think about cars. Average price is $50k now. Through in a big ole tariff on all those Japanese and Korean cars. People will go nuts.

This show was talking about iPhones and electronics being replaced but the thrust was on plastic and apparel as we are running out of room to dispose of it. The shitty consumer products are endless. From plastic plates college kids get from back to school at target to the plastic army helicopter my minion bought last week that was literally just $20. Thing is enormous

So my shit and many others won’t be impacted. China is getting crushed. My main product is $12 in Pakistan. Add 10 percent it’s still incredibly cheap when to make it in kc would be $80.

The tariffs are punitive to china it seems and that’s the main hub for all the shitty consumer products that clutter our lives

Somebody posted about China's looming problems with their manufacturing base in another thread. I think they're in for a wild ride, and we'll be impacted by it.

The tariffs aren't going to do sh#t. They're a small drop in the bucket and it's not going to target plastic crap from China. It’s just noise.

About time somebody stuck it to the farmers.

This might combine threads, but interestingly enough, Matt Gaetz was publicly a big fan of Khan, and even suggested that she should be kept, no matter the result of the election. Is DJT a grifter, or a sincere man of the people? The answer is in what happens with Khan. Will DJT follow Gaetz, or Musk?

A lack of anti-trust regulations are hurting this country and slowing capitalistic forces up and down. Corn and soybean prices have been below the cost of production for a couple years now, yet food prices remain sky high. Part of the reason is a lack of competition(mergers) from food manufacturers.

The other side is lack of competition among input providers. Mergers abound in the Seed/chemical/fertilizer industry. For example, Nutrien is one of 2 or 3 major dry fertilizer companies. They own the mines to the distributors. I have Nutrien and my local co-op. I can't get a price from Nutrien until the co-op sets their price. Then Nutrien will come out with a price that is $15-20 less than the co-op price.

Sorry for the rambling. I shouldn't have to explain the rest.

I'm surprised that the conspiracy theorists haven't picked up on this. Gaetz was very vocal in his praise of the Biden adminstration's handling of anti-trust matters.

That large oligopolies in this country might not want him as AG, and be behind some of his troubles, seems much more plausible than...(fill in your favorite conspiracy here). Although, it's totally possible that Gaetz is a slime ball that happens to be right about anti-trust matters.

It will be interesting to see, if Trump aligns with Gaetz or Musk.

No explain away. I know nothing about that world . Zero. Are you in farming?

Anytime I need a good laugh, I pull up the owl boxes on YouTube. The first time I saw it I was crying laughing.
For me it’s the chili sauce coughing fit. When he asks the guy how long he’s been doing this and the guy goes 9 years and Jeremy erupts in laughter has me in tears laughing

Trump is saying 60% across the board for all Chinese products. Maybe that's to get them to the table to negotiate something favorable, but that won't happen day 1.
Trump says a lot of things. I think they'll be implemented a lot differently. Will it be good for the economy? No. Will it have a meaningful impact? No.

For example @hookyIU1990 how bad were Biden's recent tariff increases? Also, isn't it amazing when Biden increases tariffs, they're still somehow Trump's tariffs🤣
