Legitimate or not, I think the majority of people would view a Congressional investigation after he leaves office as vengeful. I can't see that realistically happening, whereas they are now openly talking about doing it come January.

If they are able to force him from office -- as you are suggesting -- that may be enough. Then again, maybe not. Nixon was looking at being prosecuted before being pardoned.

Regardless, this whole line of speculation is silly. Trump would never resign unless he was able to do so with full immunity from every possible angle, and a pardon from Pence wouldn't even guarantee that.
