I think they are kind of a scam at the present time. Some of it depends on how you drive... the infrastructure just isn't there to support driving long distances and the batteries just don't last enough miles. If they ever standardize battery charging connections (I think that is happening to a certain extent) so they can be charged at any charging station then they will make more sense. I think in a few years battery technology will have evolved enough to go a lot of miles and then they'll make a lot more sense.

That said I have no interest in any EV, or Hybrid, or Push Button Start/Lane Assist/Adaptive CC or several other fecktastical doodads that both increase the price of a vehicle while also increasing the opportunity for failure of components critical to a vehicle's basic operation. Of the 4 in my driveway the newest car is a 2014 (and I hate it), and I reckon I will be looking backwards from there when the next one is on it's last legs.

Side steps that auto tuck once you close the door, that break....

$2k!! 😄

I do like some of those features.... the adaptive cruise control is great and I like the blind spot monitor. I do not like the lane assist feature...it's okay on the interstate or pretty straight roads but get on a really curvy road and it tries to help when not help is needed. It would be okay if it did it gently but it jerks you the way it thinks you should go. I don't give a hoot about a tach and they put them in about every car. Give me a compass and a GAUGE to tell me whether the vehicle is running hot. I want to know it's getting hot before it's actually hot.

Yes and no regarding long distance travel. It all depends where you’re headed. It’s easy to plot out your destination and know where charging stations are. If you’re headed to rural areas you’re probably in trouble. If you’re say going from Indy to the east coast or south or west towards MO, no problem at all. It’s very easy to figure out with the cars navigation as it tells you exactly where to charge and estimates when you’ll need to stop based on expected battery life. However I once had to travel to Branson for a kids softball tournament. I had no problem getting there, but once I did I had a helluva time finding local charging. I should have taken our lone gas Subaru Outback.

Good things:

"Auto" temp control
Seat and wheel heaters
Auto brights at night that sense other cars
Rain sensing windshields (kinda)
Those lights that turn in the direction you turn so you can see curbs. 😄
Android Auto for Google Maps complete with "police ahead" community notes. 👍

Tesla's look weak, sound weak, and (to me) look cheap inside.

That said, they are fast as hell.

Never interested in one, but didn't mind them. Had several clients and friends that thought of them as kinda the new, cool, "status" toy, and own them.

That said, when you receive monthly royalty checks from long gone grandma's mineral rights in Kilgore, TX...your interest in Tesla's may be prejudiced. 😄

. I don’t like how teslas look.
I can’t stand the Tesla dash. I don’t like any of them which have what looks like an IPad screwed onto the dashboard. Most look like that now.

I don’t particularly like “the look” of my present ride but the interior is outstanding and that is what I see most of the time anyway.

The top down camera is the greatest thing since canned beer.

I can't wait until I walk into work and am told that Scott didn't come in because he forgot to charge his car.

I concur. Not a fan of the new dashboards

The tech is pretty incredible. The performance of a Tesla(EV) is really crazy. I think Tesla does chintz out on the interiors though. Seems too fake and plastic. The range, or lack of, is what stops me from getting one. Like it or not but electric is what everyone will driving... Eventually. The battery range and recharge speed needs to keep improving first.

Ford has some all wheel drive hybrid pick ups coming out. That will most likely be my next purchase once my old F150 finally takes a shit.

Since Elon Musk became President Trump's BFF, I've asked certain posters if they're going to buy a Tesla or own one. I think it would be interesting to find out.
I identify as an American. I would never buy a Tesla because the thing feels like a cheap plastic toy that will fall apart. I disliked Musk long before his days of entering direct politics.
