Official Trump/Harris debate commentary thread

Depends how you define smart. I know smart lawyers who are not fast spontaneous thinkers. Trump should have confronted the moderators, they also gave him some prime opportunities. That could have changed the whole tone of the debate.
COH, he’s getting old and showing signs of mental decline. He’s not the same guy in that respect now that he was in 2016. He just can’t do what you suggest now. This comes for all of us if we live long enough. Trump has lived long enough.

Ike wrote his WWII memoir without talking to a publisher or having an advance. He shopped it after he wrote it.

Thats not now how it works nowadays. Government officials and staffers now receive huge advances based upon a promise of a “tell-all” book with juicy details. If the book isn’t juicy enough, the publishers rewrite and edit. The grift is obvious. With all that money involved, an honest book is impossible.

What is the response we get when we mention campaign finance reform? Oh yeah, That's Free Speech and capitalism baby. It is beautiful! Let the money flow.

Why would those dark money groups have any more interest in running honest tv spots than a fired administrator would have in writing an honest book?

And is someone who was fired more dishonest than someone still suckling from the milk cow?

C.O could have a point, if it was just 1 or 2 people calling out Trump from his own administration.. but it is many times more than that.

It seems a major stretch to assume every single person is a liar.

Trump's defense isn't that they lied (doesn't want to be sued), it is that he barely knew them. If he barely knew all of these people, then his claims he fired them for being crappy employees seems a bit odd given that would hard for him to judge if he barely knew them.

They might lie, I have no idea. But the people still wanting to be on his gravy train have a reason to lie too, do they not? So how do we know who is lying? Do we have a right to know what happens behind closed doors? I think there are good and hard questions about this. I am not sure it is in the best interests to air all dirty laundry especially if it is fake. On the other hand, I'm not sure a blanket cone of silence makes any sense either. Shouldn't we know of corruption and/or misconduct?

Random really good article that I think perfectly captures how people feel. Highlights:
Like trump policies
Harris didn’t answer on policies. She talked around questions
Inflation is Harris
Harris is respectful and presidential.
Harris wants to be prez for everyone
Can’t get trump’s moronic statement about Ohio out of his head

I don’t know why you keep repeating this lie. It’s a lie told by Trump and you unquestionably take everything he says as gospel. However, it is a lie.
Trump requires blind loyalty regardless of how ignorant the demand or illegal the task. Prison time or disbarment is a small price to pay for your time in his circle in his mind.

He cannot have the disloyal and family killed the way Putin Un or other dictators do so he fires and slanders them

I agree and think CO's stance is based solely on his politics and what he wants to be true.

You are right that people still in trump's orbit have every incentive to support trump publicly and not risk their jobs.

Every single person that was in his administration started out pro-trump.

I think it’s more than money. The 51 active and former intelligence officials weren’t paid. I don’t think Big Media were paid to quash the laptop story, or Big Tech was paid to censor comments at the Democrats’ request, but they did it—as Zuckerberg admitted. Soros and the Tides foundation doesn’t make money off of extreme left wing causes and pro-Palestine demonstrations. What could be more important than money? Power, influence, and control. It’s called The System.

Easy target...

And TMP may actually agree w you that she sucks now, versus what she coulda been, had she stayed more authentic.

I think she has some chops though. She's not talentless. She could do quite well, playing her own, non-popped stuff, like Ryan Adams did, in Americana style...but playing at Old National Center instead of Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Let's imagine that CO.Hoosier has a birthday coming up. His beloved wife offers to bake him any cake that he wants. He finds a recipe for her. He even goes to the grocery store and buys the ingredients.

She then bakes exactly the cake that he wanted. But... people then criticize the cake for being ugly. He finds that to be embarrassing.

As a result, he declares "That's not my cake. I know nothing about it! I had nothing to do with it"

That's what's going on.
bumping... great analogy, dumbed down enough for even a lawyer to understand

I mean, the real lawyers. It's too deep for the McDonald's fry cook in St. Louis, the guy who PRETENDS to be a lawyer but is too hopelessly dumb for that to be true, unless dementia has set in.

And the very large backers on the right, what are they gaining? You mention Soros wanting power, what does Musk want?

The main thing she was able to accomplish last night was to demonstrate she had the temperment to be POTUS. By doing so she gave double haters and people who despise Trump, but were going to vote for him out of a sense of deperation/uncertainty permission to vote for her instead. After last night a significant number of undecideds who were thinking they'd vote for the petulant child/ convicted felon won't.

It's all about the margins. That's why they did the bus tour in rural GA...
No, the main thing she was able to accomplish is lie without any challenge from the moderators. She also showed the media is in the bag for her.

She couldn't even answer the first question. It was embarrassing for her.

There are wolves out there that want to eliminate the sheepdogs. It is a whole lot easier to become a trillionaire if one can just flat out sell snake oil.

I wonder what casino magnets want that the GOP would be more forgiving? The vast majority of gambling law is state controlled. Maybe they want a loose set of federal law to override state?
