Lessons for all of us

You would not like to sit next to me in a close game. I’m a mess
I'm used to it. My wife is from Anderson and I thought she would literally stroke out when the Indians played for the state title in '84(?) Troy Lewis' senior year.

I have to tell her to calm down when IU plays on the TV!

I just get pissed and start swearing uncontrollably when things aren't going well.

Have we talked about this? I’m from Anderson also. Knew Troy and his family. In fact we hosted Gene Keady for dinner before an Indian game. My dad was on the board at PU. Yes I was a major disappointment. Rest of fam went to PU

Hell, you probably know DANC's wife. This could make for some serious drama.

I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if I do. i think we may have talked about this. Thinking she didn’t grow up there, but could be wrong.

I knew you were from Anderson because you mentioned it after I talked about Gene's. When we go up there, we always stop at the Lemon Drop for an onion burger. Gene's and the Lemon Drop are the only reasons to go to Anderson. Well, and Uranus, of course.

She graduated mid-70s, but we always went to Anderson home games after we got married. My in-laws weren't big sports fans until I married in and then they turned into big IU fans. The Fort Wayne branch of the family were all big PU fans - you probably had your trash picked up by them when they started in Anderson.

She grew up there - I didn't. Her only family left there now are an aunt and uncle and cousin.

She probably does - everyone knows everyone else in Anderson. She probably lived in Edgewood - the high class area.

Lol that’s where I grew up. Lived down the street from the country club. It is weird. It wasn’t that small a town then but everyone does know each other. And the sectional games… don’t get me started. My uncle had CP so he had front row seats and I got to sit with him often.

I know where that is. My wife started out in Grandview and then they moved to a place just off Lindburgh Road.

My Uncle was a doctor and Chief of Staff at St. Johns and they lived in Edgewood and we used to visit in the winter - they had a wicked hill we'd sled down.

I remember the in-laws putting in for the sectional lottery. If they didn't get them, I had to stand outside to scalp tickets. It was a madhouse back then. The pre-game ceremonies with the Indian chief and squaw were the best. We'd try to get tickets from the losers if the Indians played later.

I saw Alford miss 2 FTs in the Wigwam that would have won the game for New Castle, but he missed both and they lost in OT. Bill Harrell, who coached Muncie Central, was always a hoot. Those NCC games were intense.

They all knew each other because they all worked for Guide Lamp (the "Guiding Light") or "the Remy", as my in-laws called them.

I know where your uncle lived, we all sledded down that hill. I was at the Alford game too. Marion games were always crazy too. Some classic games at the Wigwam. Had a couple friends who were Indian maiden and chief. Some coaches refused to bring their team out for the ceremony because they said it was too intimidating. My dad was in Labor Relations at Guide.

I have been to a lot of the great gyms in Indiana. The Wigwam and all that went with it was my favorite. Last time I was there was for a regional game between Anderson and Muncie Central. Kojak Fuller team. If Bozo could coach…..

I went to a game between Anderson and Muncie Central at the Wigwam and Bill Harrell got kicked out of the game. He threw a fit and then his shoes. Then he put his fists up like he wanted to fight while being escorted out. lol The crowd was going nuts.

I was never much for big schools - I always liked the small school gyms better when there was a big game. But I've not been more entertained at a basketball game than one at the Wigwam.
