Judge puts Trump out of business in NY?

Anyone and everyone is given the opportunity to "catch up" on their taxes if they are found to be in arrears. The IRS doesn't care about putting you in jail or not, they just want their money. Don't ask me how I know this.
How many get help from DOJ in allowing the statute to lapse on the years with the biggest fraud balances?

I've read it.

It's the equivalent of Trump listing his weight as 220 on his pre-screen medical paperwork for life insurance, when the doctor is obviously going to weigh him.

It's meaningless.
Obviously, the police are going to enforce the traffic laws, so requiring drivers themselves to obey even when no cops are present, is just as meaningless, right?

The NY law is clearly intended to eliminate repeated bad practices by questionable businesses, regardless whether their customers suffer and regardless whether the cheaters are detected -- just like traffic laws. You can be prosecuted for traffic violations even without having an accident or hurting someone.

On Monday, the trial begins and the NY AG will begin justifying the amount she seeks to require the Trump defendants to pay. She apparently is seeking something like $150 million to $250 million from the defendants.

I respect your disapproval, but that statute is hardly "meaningless," especially to Trump.

No, actually there's more evidence that Biden is a pedophile.
I really wish someone you've intentionally slandered would come after you like like Curt Schilling did:

You may be anonymous on this board, but you're not invisible even if the moderators don't police you.

Fine. Whatever. It's meaningless to those evaluating risk.

In fact, my weight example isn't an exact parallel, since actual weight can be verified as fact.

An "opinion of value" is that...and opinion....and his opinion doesn't matter.

If he's bribing tax assessors...fine, charge him.

If he's somehow bribing lenders 3rd party appraisers to adjust value unbeknownst to them...fine, charge him.

This is immaterial nonsense.
Again, we'll all begin to find out on Monday (when the trial begins) just how immaterial this statute is to Trump -- this is not a standard plaintiff/ defendant tort case for damages. You may not think the procedure or statute is necessary but it's really not anything new.

If you need a reference pont, just think about all the cases you've already read about where government agencies have completely prohibited various businesses from continuing in business because of repeated bad practices (bankers, insurance agents, securities brokers, doctors, lawyers, home repair contractors, telephone solicitors and on and on). Nothing new.

Are you questioning whether DOJ allowed the statute to run?
I am asking you to tell us how much of the following you know about firsthand: "How many get help from DOJ in allowing the statute to lapse on the years with the biggest fraud balances?"

That's what you asked (no one else). Please tell us what you know about what the DOJ did.

It's OK IF you don't know squat. Just admit it.

It starts with an understanding of why people of different political persuasions go into the law. You ask any Conservative why they went into the law and they will always tell you something to the effect of “I was always interested in law and find it noble and important to uphold the constitution and laws of the United States”. Straight forward enough.

You ask the same question to a Democrat practicing law and almost to a man they will tell you something like “To make a difference”, whatever the **** that means.

So when they get into their profession, Conservatives have firm footing. What does the law say? Rule/ prosecute accordingly…

The same is not true of Democrats. When your goal is as subjective as “To make a difference” you come up with the decision you think is right and then twist, contort and stretch the law to fit your means.

It’s how you get complete ****ing embarrassments like KBJ and Sotomayor. How you get vindictive, low life pieces of shit like Garland and deranged Jack Smith.

Affirmative actions morons like Letitia James, Fani Willis and Alvin Bragg. (You can put Sotomayor and KBJ in this bucket as well….. and Chutkan).

To these people, Trump is a threat to the country’s very existence, whatever must be done to stop him, will be.

The Federalist society does mediocre work trying to counter balance these whack jobs but it’s a losing battle. 82% of law students are Democrats, you can’t fight those numbers.

30 years from now, the American Judicial system, once the model for the world, will lay in complete tatters. And we will be able to thanks Democratic law grads who wipe their ass with the constitution on a daily basis.

For the second part, I think that might depend upon the property and state / local jurisdictions.
I am part owner of the company I work for. The former owner of the company also owns the building but is retiring / transitioning out. He is looking to sell the building and got an assessment. He was told by the assessors that a good chunk of the evaluation is based upon the amount of rent charged.

Perhaps that is just an isolated occurrence for anecdotal evidence, but that's what I'm basing that statement in the referenced post on.

As for the first part, do you consider stating that the square footage of one of your properties to be 3x the size of what it actually is as a gross misstatement?
OK, so I completely agree with this, but it the inverse of what was said before. The level of potential rent does indeed affect the value of the assest. That is elastic however and if rent drops due to the economy or an industry best suited to that building...so does the value of the building.

and yes, 3X overstatment of SF is indeed gross.

I think it is more due to overvaluing for purposes of loans and whenever else he needs it to be overvalued.

If you were writing a loan for someone and found out later that they embellished their assets in order to get favorable terms, then I'm guessing you might not be too happy about it because it could change the risk assessment.
and it also means your underwriting processes are shit.

I would gather with your fellow moderators and maybe publish some strict criteria for deletion/ banishment. As you note, the post above is free of no no words and personal attacks that would typically warrant a deletion. There doesn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason to it now days other than whether Bloom and Goat are feeling frustrated and/ or sad.

We can’t have Mods using the position as an outlet for their mental health struggles. It simply makes the board inoperable.

I’d say a guy who gets banned constantly and then comes back with dozens off different names posting the same rubbish has more to do with making the board inoperable than taking out the trash when needed.

What is your problem?
I endorse the general intent if that deleted post. With this caveat; not all liberals go into law with the idea of “making a difference,” but of those who do enter law for that kind of purpose, the vast majority of them will be liberals.

In my experience, lawyers whom I call “cause lawyers,” are usually not very good lawyers even though they might be smart people. I recall a discussion I had with a first year law student years ago about this. He said he was studying to be an environmental lawyer. I told him he should study to be an excellent lawyer and then take up environmental law. Never saw him again, don’t know if my suggestion stuck.

Ones person’s trash is another person‘s treasure. If you can’t sort out content with what is between your ears, maybe you should stick with Barbie.

Oh sick burn…. Says the guy who doesn’t understand Barbie because he didn’t see it. Just a way to throw out a misogynistic trope.

It's hard to tell (the poster has apparently changed his name, again) but this excerpt looks like part of the same post I asked to be deleted yesterday. It made an offensive reference to three prosecutors and I won't repeat it.

I was too harsh on the Mods yesterday and I apologize for that. The Mods did the right thing in deleting it. I thank them.

I know the Mods are overworked and underpaid and we all should appreciate the work they do. Again, I apologize for my harsh treatment of them.

I’m sure they appreciate your apology. Dealing with emotionally stunted infants like yourself is not easy work. It’s compounded when the brain has been scrambled so bad by cultural Marxist propaganda that they throw out racism accusations at the drop of a hat.

When the Democratic Party explicitly lays out the criteria for candidate selection will be based on race and gender. It is affirmative action, definitionally. Hopefully you learned something yesterday. The Mods and myself accept your apology.

It’s top secret technology. The DOJ has access to time manipulation. Keep it on the down low. It came from the same people that engineered Covid to not kill ashkenazi Jews.

I didn't apologize to anyone but the mods. You're not even the racist poster.

There’s no dispute the statute ran on 2014 and 2015. Years that Hunter owed big taxes on Berisma and other foreign sources.
