Trump's not going away unless he dies from coronary artery disease as a result of his McDonald's diet, obesity and lack of exercise. He remains enormously popular in much of the midwest and south and is, unquestionably, the most powerful and influential figure in the Republican Party. The message that the election was stolen, that the dirty Dims have the country on the path to Venezuela-style socialism, and that "patriots" need to take the country back resonates with millions of his supporters. His allies are doing everything they can to shore up Republican state legislatures and install as many pro-Trump election officials as possible. As a result, the Dem candidate may lose even if they win.
The Dems need to nominate someone much younger and articulate who would expose Trump, on a debate stage, for the fraudulent and anti-democratic fool that he is. Someone like Conor Lamb, assuming he's elected to the Senate in 2022, would give Trump fits. He's young, well-spoken, a Marine, former Judge Advocate, representing a key swing state, etc. On the other hand, neither Biden nor Harris would be able to put much, if any, daylight between themselves and Trump and could make Trump's return to the White House, in a backsliding democracy, a fairly easy layup.
