IU Targets in the Portal Discussion Thread (UPDATED 4/25)

Why Leal doesn't play he and duncomb are not contributing thats two spots we need depth not cheerleaders

1. Leal is a current IU player. Anyone who downs the IU uniform deserves your respect. Don't be a clown. Calling him a "cheerleader" is a BS comment.

2. Leal's parents work for IU. The kid grew up in Bloomington. He is not going to leave IU.

Man, your comment is so lame.

Duncomb for sure is gone Geronimo, Leal, could be gone also. So we could have have maybe seven open spots we need 2 bigs and shooters Penn state grabbed mutiple transfer shooters we need as many as we can get.

I’d bet money Leal isn’t leaving. Loves IU, makes more NIL cash than he would anywhere else and his realty business shows he realizes the value of being associated with IU basketball in Indiana.

If you can’t contribute, GTFO of the program.

Sorry, fellas, but it’s now all about the business.
I suspect there is one player that regrets coming back this season. Imho, he had one foot out the door and was convinced to return . This season has been rough for him.

Edit: morning RZ, and to your point, I think the boosters have had poor ROI on some of the players that they are paying. Tons of options out there, and I suspect they will be able to buy some upgraded pieces of equipment.

I'm all about the portal, but pretty crazy that the portal is open before the tournament even begins. Schools like Louisville get a huge advantage to host portal targets while schools in the postseason have to simultaneously prepare for games.

Hopefully the IU staff is working hard on this because you would assume we have at least 3 openings with the impending departures of TJD and JHS, and likely 4 if Logan is gone as everyone predicts. IMHO, we need at least 2 impact transfers, if not three. We need 2 guys who can score, at least one person who can play the 4/5, and at least one deadly shooter (regardless of position).

I'll keep a running list of the targets, and where they ended up. If someone else has already created such a thread, let me know and I'll delete this.

I believe Nick Timberlake of Towson is a target too. He had an outstanding year as a scorer.

Monvalleys ignorance is top notch.

The '23 class has long been projected as weak sauce.

Getting a current soph or junior through the portal who have 2 years of eligibility remaining continues to strengthen the base of a program.

Guy seems salty PU doesn't have the NIL $ to attract or retain free agent talent.

You just keep thinking that! Talk about delusional. Purdue was entertained at the BTT Tournament by the gentleman who wrote a $10M check to partially endow the head basketball position. The entire team was treated to a visit to his lofty downtown condo in a skyscraper overlooking downtown. You can think a lot of nasty thoughts about Purdue, but you show your ignorance when you suggest the university is hurting for money. Get a grip man, the tuition has been frozen for a dozen years. How many redshirts have you had the last couple years?

I will bet anything both are gone. Duncomb not only is not any good he is a walking illness. Leal hasn't played since Archie was here his cheerleading days are over at IU.
How much? Leal is here because he loves IU. I think he's always known he might not play much and is OK with that. He has always been the first to support and represent the program and school. I can't see him leaving. Priller seemed OK with not playing and apparently wanted to stay, so some folks are just happy with their college choice. I wouldn't bet on Dunscomb not leaving, but it's an extra chip, I'll take it.

Yes in my opinion you want results on the floor from your BB program. But because only 5 at a time play I want successful citizens coming out the other side of the program. Both are goals that can be reached.

On what planet is Duncomb starting over Reneau next year? I’m starting to think you are just trolling with these takes.
When IU needs max minutes last season and this season from Trayce why would LD get much PT with Race and MR taking up the rest of the minutes. Logan at the 5 gives MR needed versatility at Race's old spot the 4. I like what that create for 1 through 3. Geronimo probably going to be the odd guy out not earning playing time expected. To bad, athlete extraordinaire but not developing adequate BB IQ for the big time.

Not sure what redshirts have to do with anything, but Purdue's richest alumni is also one of IU's biggest donors. You don't have anyone making over $150k from NIL, because your fanbase can't afford it. Additionally, for some dumb reason, Purdue's collective is trying to pay players from all sports instead of paying for sports that matter. So even your small amount of money coming in is split up amongst non revenue sports.

Duncomb and JG both likely won't be here next year.

Our former backup QB to Jim Everett, Doug DeVos, controls a $5B family fortune. Your description of the wealth of Purdue alumni and fan base is beyond ignorant and renders your opinions moot.

Why would Duncomb leave? The road to a starter position has been cleared. He just needs to stay healthy.
What makes you think he is any good and should start? He has barely played in two years and is always hurt. I am pretty sure we can find and upgrade in the portal to him. He is gone imo and so is Geronimo. Leal will stay.

We could actually start 2 bigs - Duncomb at the 5 and Reneau at the 4. Now do I think that will happen - no. But, I would like to see Indiana recruit and land more guys that are 6'10" and bigger and actually play them

So are we recruiting any shooters to help open up the inside game . Reneau and Trayce were on the floor at the same time , so Reneau and Dumcomb could play together next year. I thought they said Dumcomb was able to redshirt , so he would have 3 years left . Back to my original question are we recruiting any shooters .

And not close to your richest alumni (Carl Cook). I’ll be concerned when Purdue starts to land recruits that are being recruited by other big schools.

You don’t have many years left for Purdue to win a championship, Des.

Woodson will push Leal out. Leal needs to go there is no use for him.
You are convinced that Leal will be gone but as many say on here some kids are happy to keep working an play when given the opportunity. Woodson has no reason to push Leal. He is IU through and through, is good academically and is a great teammate. He may never be in the top 10 players on the team but there is a really good chance he will still be here next season.

He is also doing a great job networking and building his business acumen in Bloomington that will provide a potential long term life payoff. We will see if your predictions are correct; but I believe he stays.

If you are going to troll my posts at least read the context before doing so Cletus.

TIA
I read your post and responded. To be a 12-seed, the Committee ranks you in the range of 45-48. For the vast majority of the season, Purdue has been ranked between 1 and 5. That means your comment is off by 40 tournament seeds. You posted this despite common knowledge that Purdue was the 4th #1 seed by the Committee. Put simply, your post is dumb.

You seem to believe that a closely called game hurts Purdue. That is not the opinion of many commentators, Dykes of the SEC and Crispin of the BTN among others. What do they know? They get paid for their opinions and you post here. A rule of economics is the worth of something is what someone will pay for it. They get paid, you do not. Value accordingly.
