As much as I'd like that, I think those days are largely gone -- not just for IU and not just for basketball...but for college athletics in general.I have an idea... IU could actually recruit high school kids and develop them over 4-5 years creating consistency throughout the program. What am I thinking... just nonsense.
How teams finish in their conference tournaments rarely are an indicator for NCAA tournament performance. But I sure wouldn't want to play Duke right now. They've won slow paced games, they've won fast paced games. They've beaten two ranked teams in a row, and thumped a recently ranked Pitt team right before that. Lively is much more "lively" now than he was earlier in the season. Roach and Proctor are better, and playing better, than PU's backcourt.Duke has been murdering teams. Purdue can't seem to get out of their own way even in games they win.
Isn't that something RMK always advocated for? There was no portal in his day but I seem to remember something like that. However, I've been told that (in football, anyway) the NCAA is changing the rules so that, when a school accepts a player from the TP, they have to tie up his scholarship for the rest of his eligibility.
How many games behind B10 conference champs? Just 3 with those dubs. Hey
I've never heard a word except on this board by posters who don't know any more than you and me. So let's be not only serious but honest about insiders. Anything to a certain extent is possible but I'll believe it only when I see it.People who are insiders said weeks ago that he is gone.
I don’t see either guard growing any bigger.IU boosters will always have as much money as any team to pay players and we should be able to piece together one of the top 5 payrolls year in, year out.
Can a team that grows strictly through recruiting, player development and coaching contend with that?
It’s certainly one of the more intriguing questions.
PU has a young backcourt, and I’m guessing you guys lose early because of it. But, you won the league, and they will be a year older next year. How that contends against teams reloading with one and dones and transfers will be interesting.
Edit: I should add that if a team can beat the Kentucky model schools by recruiting, retaining, developing and coaching , it’s hard not to root for them. Just being able to keep players will be a challenge for those with low NIL. players get poached all of the time.
Better to have glory days than none at all. 😂glory days, well they will pass you by , glory days.

So telling that Pu is a one seed and yet their only discussion is about IU.lol and what was Coach Geez doing when we lost to North Texas and St. Peter's? I'll fill you in. You were watching the game. Why? Because your team wasn't playing anymore or at all in the tournament. Just like the B10 tourney final on Sunday. Just like 2019 when Purdue won 3 games in the tourney. Just like 2018 when Purdue won 2 games and played 3 games in the NCAA tournament. Probably like in this year's tourney. For sure next season. IU should be happy advancing and winning in the 1st round since it hasn't happened since what, 2016? Thats seven years I believe. IU played great against Purdue this year, no doubt. Those wins were so meaningful to Purdue only a 3 games separated the teams from conference title instead of possibly 5 games. Damn.
Can't spell delusional without IU. Enjoy those beta memories though.
That was based on a hot take from his grandmother, who has since recanted.
Also, I'm not sure those who said that are insiders . . . to whom are you referring?
Stick to trashing 20 year old players (you have never met) to their parents. It is interesting to read the inconsistencies on this board. Not too long ago, Purdue was being criticized for playing a soft pre-conference schedule. Then they play the Big Ten schedule and the BTT and win both. If they plateaued, which I disagree, it was from a high level.
By the way, ESPN's Borzello had Duke picked #5 in the country preseason. ESPN analysts had them picked 2nd or 3rd in the ACC behind NC and split with Virginia. So the argument that they got a whole lot better over the year based upon expectations is questionable.
Duke has progressed nicely through the late season. PUke has struggled to win games of late. I give them credit for getting the recent wins but man they have looked bad doing it..Duke has been murdering teams. Purdue can't seem to get out of their own way even in games they win.
Might as well start a new thread, this one has been ruined. Can people save arguing with Purdue fans for a different topic? This is about IU and the portal. Thanks.
As long as this is an open liberal board, they will be allowed to invade and troll at will and unchecked. Go to the premie for legit hoops discussion. Can people save arguing with Purdue fans for a different topic? This is about IU and the portal. Thanks.
Who?It's been said by several people close to the program.
800k for Pack? Really? That is astonishing to me. I had no idea so much $ was being thrown around.I don't think IU is top 5 in the country Miami payed Nijel Pack 800k this year. just takes 1 crazy billionaire to buy a complete team.
It was for 2 years. $400k per year.800k for Pack? Really? That is astonishing to me. I had no idea so much $ was being thrown around.
Imho he wasn’t worth that.It was for 2 years. $400k per year.
It is not even clear that Duke gets there. They have to beat ORU and TN.I'll take the team who is currently rolling over the team struggling to put away teams any day of the week. Not so sure Purdue even makes it the S16 for a rematch with Duke.
Why not both.I have an idea... IU could actually recruit high school kids and develop them over 4-5 years creating consistency throughout the program. What am I thinking... just nonsense.
Their guards are weak, especially Loyer. Smith will be good and has been good for a freshman this season. Loyer is worthless, imoDuke has been murdering teams. Purdue can't seem to get out of their own way even in games they win.
Gotta have history..To be historic..glory days, well they will pass you by , glory days.

Helm's logic. Before you criticize anyone else's basketball knowledge, your prediction of Smith being a non-factor was way off. He did make the Big Ten All-Freshmen team. That is not something non-factors make.
Lol. Goofy logic. You going to bring up NC all time in every sport. It gets pretty bad for PU if you do.1934, 1935, 1936, 1940, 1941 and 1960. These are national championships won by Minnesota in football. They are equally irrelevant to today.
Hes overpaid.Race got over $500k
I still had no idea players were getting this much. WowIt was for 2 years. $400k per year.
He helped them win the ACC. I’d say he was more worth $400k than Race worth $500k+Imho he wasn’t worth that.

There will be some attrition. Just the new age of college basketball.limited scholarships
I personally don’t see any transfers for IU this season.I'm gonna guess that Bates won't transfer. He strikes me as a guy to rise to a challenge rather than run from one.
I'm gonna also guess that Woody won't run him off. He was off the bench early enough to make me believe that Woody likes the kid's potential.
I agree. I think Bates finds his shot next year . . . .I personally don’t see any transfers for IU this season.
Bates is a great teammate from what I can see. I think Woodson has kept the team together and IU is a as good next season as this season.
IU desperately needs a scoring guard. X hopefully comes backI agree. I think Bates finds his shot next year . . . .
If he is another Kopp--NO !!!!I'm all about the portal, but pretty crazy that the portal is open before the tournament even begins. Schools like Louisville get a huge advantage to host portal targets while schools in the postseason have to simultaneously prepare for games.
Hopefully the IU staff is working hard on this because you would assume we have at least 3 openings with the impending departures of TJD and JHS, and likely 4 if Logan is gone as everyone predicts. IMHO, we need at least 2 impact transfers, if not three. We need 2 guys who can score, at least one person who can play the 4/5, and at least one deadly shooter (regardless of position).
I'll keep a running list of the targets, and where they ended up. If someone else has already created such a thread, let me know and I'll delete this.
