There is an excellent video by Francis Schaeffer about how Christianity created Western Culture. The main premise was that when the Reformation happened suddenly the feudal system went by the wayside because people were seen as being made in the image of God. This movement then lead to sweeping changes in the view about slavery. Now slavery still exists in the world, but not the Christianized world. We who grew up in America take for granted the freedoms confirmed by the Constitution. We have the freedom of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We don't realize how much of what we experience today came from the change the Reformation caused.
Ask the young person who is a Bible believing Christian if they are seen as normal. I will guarantee a large segment of our society abhors them. Who will stand up for those who go against the grain of society?

You used the word "suddenly" to describe how quickly the Reformation was able to bring about "sweeping changes" in how society, centered around Christianity, viewed people in a light that would make them unable to treat their fellow men as slaves.
Yet, there is a 347 year gap between the start of the Reformation and the EP. The Reformation was more than 200 years before the Constitution. Where was all that Christian mercy and grace brought over to this continent by our forefathers?

It took so long because slavery was the way of the world. It is why we still have slavery today. Now there is no doubt that Christianity is what lead this change of mind. But you have to realize that Christians really didn't have any power especially those who were part of the Reformation. The Catholic Church had political power in Europe but those who were Reformers did not. Yet little by little and the turning of one heart after another which is why it happened. Today where there is no Christian witness you see slavery. I would argue that China is full of slaves. For these are not people who can choose where they live and what they do. The Chinese Central Government makes those decisions. Perhaps if more Chinese people turn to Jesus then we might see an end to this monstrous political system.

Also, you really, really need to learn about slavery in the United States so you don't look quite as ignorant when trying to compare citizens of China to African Americans pre Civil War.
For generations a huge part of the defense of slavery was that it is clearly condoned in the Bible. Ditto for the treatment of women as lesser than/subserviant to men. To this day, organizations such as the KKK staunchly claim to uphold Christian beliefs. Every KKK meeting begins with bowing your head in prayer while a VanPastorMan-like person says a few stirring words.
