It isn't in schools

My biggest fear
My kids get pissed at me when I'm always saying "hey, ask that kid to sit with you or play with you" or whatever when I see a kid by him or herself. It's my fear too. Not that they'll be the coolest kid, but that they'll join in ostracizing or silently bullying some kid.

She's going to be a Mean Girl in high school, isn't she?

Yes yes yes. And mine has a huge heart. My hope is that these kids stay woke and good to each other. Good to everyone - save her bf. My ex and I have long agreed she’s going to be a clingy psycho gf. We’re resigned to that

Maybe she should watch Fatal Attraction for some pointers?

My daughter has 200 "friends". She'll learn. Probably in college.

I can't tell if she's a mean girl or just trying way too hard to be popular (which, of course, if you ask her she's totally not doing).

I love that our kids think we were born at 30 and didn't go through anything like they're going through. Makes me chuckle everytime she realizes her mother or I were right about something.

Singing and drama might be good choices. Dance? (DONT DO IT!!!!!) You two should watch Glee together. Editing Tik Tok clips? That could lead to something in movie/TV editing, directing, etc.

Does she like to read? Draw? Put drippy outfits together? She'll figure it out.
I don’t think drippy outfits is the way you say that! 😎

Hi IarsIU, it's understandable to feel concerned about your daughter's social media behavior, as well as her schooling and learning. It's important to encourage her to prioritize her education and to focus on building meaningful relationships with her peers. While social media can be a fun way to connect with others, it's important to remember that it shouldn't take away from her studies and learning opportunities. To help her, suggest creative essay examples about bullying because I passed over bullying cases in my life with the help of informative speeches online and essay examples. You also may want to consider talking with your daughter's teachers or school counselor to get their perspective on her behavior and academic progress. They may be able to offer some helpful insights and guidance on how to support her in her academic pursuits.

It's understandable to feel concerned about your daughter's behavior and the number of friends she has on social media. While having a large number of friends on social media is common, it's important to remember that the quality of those relationships matters more than the quantity. It's also important to keep in mind that social media can sometimes create a false sense of popularity and validation, and that real-life friendships and connections are what truly matter. It's difficult to say whether your daughter is a mean girl or simply trying too hard to be popular without more information. It may be helpful to have an open and honest conversation with her about her behavior and how it's perceived by others. Encourage her to treat others with kindness and respect, and to prioritize building genuine connections with people rather than focusing solely on her social media presence. It's great that you can find humor in your daughter's realization that you were right about something. Remember to be patient with her and provide guidance and support as she navigates through adolescence and young adulthood.
Great username, ChapGPT. Keep learning!

Not alerting parents of an 11 year old? Not O.K.

Yes and stuff like this is why people in the other thread saying that conservatives are driving this trans narrative right now are complete nonsense.

DC to frame social studies curriculum through the "social justice" lens,

including CRT (of which, anti-racism is a sub-field):

"Knowledge framing: anti-racist There are few areas in the current D.C. Social Studies Standards where the intersectionality, which is rooted in racist thinking. White supremacy has impacted all races and groups of people, even those who identify as white. With an anti-racist framing, District students would be more aware of the role of policy and history in shaping current racial and economic inequities. The revised standards should also focus on the tenets of critical race theory (CRT) when describing power structures and systems."

I noticed some people got really quiet about the boy reading from the shitty book. Nothing on the last one, how about this? We're the parental rights violated here? Did the teacher know better here?

This is an adult manipulating a child. It’s abusive and should be treated as such. At the very least, that teacher should be fired and never teach again.

On the book, I’d be pissed if that was in my kid’s middle school library. Frankly, I don’t see the usefulness of explicitly sexual books even at the high school level.

Teacher/Nerd/SJW Don Adams at Bloomington North posted this on his class door today:

"LITTERBOX NOW AVAILABLE IN ADAMS CLASSROOM.

ALL ANIMAL IDENTIFYING STUDENTS WELCOME

ROOM 507"

The North Principal had to send a letter of apology to parents. 😄

The debate is over. The schools and the teacher's union have a grooming perversion problem and it has to stop. For all the "good" teachers there seems to be an equal number of ultra woke losers who have decided they will indoctrinate children and parents have no say in it.

He should have been fired. Fired if it was true and fired if it was a joke for not reading the room.

I disagree. Maybe disciplined, but firing is pretty extreme for pointing out a mental illness that is sweeping the country.

Have you ever seen these 'furries'?

Well, I once saw a Monty Python sketch about men wanting to be mice. Does that count?

Edit: Warning: Cheese can be addicting.

A good post from an educator that distinguishes ethnic studies from ethnic histories in K-12, in line with discussions on this forum, and arguing why the latter is desirable but the former is not.

"The two are not synonymous. Ethnic and racial histories—the experiences and contributions of different ethnic and racial groups in the US, the rivalries among them, the especially egregious injustices inflicted on some of them, the struggles to overcome those injustices, and instances of injustice and racism today— are taught in schools throughout the country. The best version of these classes teach ethnic and racial histories through multiple lenses, giving students a rich understanding of how these histories are connected to different ideas today.

Ethnic studies, on the other hand, is the lens. Its origins lie in the radical student movement of the 1960s and was created explicitly to underwrite a liberationist cultural politics. The development of the field over the last 50 years has stayed true to those origins. That is why ethnic studies advocates vigorously insist that ethnic studies is notliberal multiculturalism,” which they disparage as “white-washing”—white supremacy with a smiley face. They know that the agonistic racial lens isn’t incidental to ethnic studies, it’s the defining feature.

Pointing out the origins and political aims of ethnic studies doesn’t discredit its point of view. But it does remind us that it is a point of view. Despite proponents’ claims, ethnic studies does not promote the teaching of multiple perspectives. It applies a single perspective to teaching about multiple ethnic groups. It is not just social conservatives who object to it. The ethnic studies perspective is contested by reputable scholars in the humanities and social sciences, and rejected by many members of the ethnic and racial groups for whom ethnic studies claims to speak.

Requiring the ethnic studies lens across K-12 learning standards is therefore akin to requiring a feminist or libertarian lens. Those ideologies and others should be taught somewhere in the school curriculum, but they should be taught as rival interpretive frameworks and objects of analysis. None should be enshrined in state learning standards or local curricula as settled doctrine."

This is a good development for Indiana schools. I’m usually against educator’s following the newest, untested fad, but this effort to return to phonics based reading is supported by real data:

Our school district just switched back after doing the Calkins stuff. Calkins was a disaster.

Teachers unions won't accept it. It's much easier to teach nonsense like CRT and gender confusion than it is language, math, and science. Why earn a salary when you can BS your way through the day. Sadly the kids will not be able to function in life but they will be able to call everyone racist and biased while becoming lifetime wards of the state.

Teachers' unions where?

Not great reporting in this. Not familiar with the entity mentioned.

Went and found the video and I don't see how any additional context helps. Bunch of lying going on at the administrative level across the state and that does play a big factor when it comes to parent/school relationships.

My school district is about to come and ask for another tax abatement to raise teacher salaries and I think just based on the way things have gone the past few years that they are possibly going to have a fight on their hands. Every other school ask has breezed through since I moved here. And stuff like this is why. The trust is shot. Even with the school board switch in my area.
