Why would anyone want Kopp to come back? He doesn’t play D well and can’t get his own shot and even when he does he doesn’t score enough to help the team. Agree on Stewart and Lander though.

Kopp was next on my list.

I don't get the Durr hate. He was instrumental in the Purdue win.
Problem is he didn't defend like that again whenever he got the chance. He can shoot and pass, but needs work on his D if he's gonna stay.

Not sure why so many IU fans have already written off Duncomb. Lander too. Both have a chance to develop. I'd say goodbye to Stewart, Kopp, and Phinissee.

Develop?
You take on more than one project..imo
Your team is way behind. ..
This Indiana...You'd better be able to ball immediately...
Or we're destined to be in the middle of the Big forever....

So was Phin. Actually more so than Durr. And he didn't cost us the NU game.
That is the one game this year where Rob provided consistent offense. It has been 4 years now, and Rob hasn't shown he can provide consistent offense and hit shots. You know what Rob is at this point. At least there is hope with the younger guys that they could develop: they deserve a shot.

Definitely NOT Duncomb. He'll be good in a few years. Lander, Kopp and Leal.

As do I. I think at least 5 leave but I think Woodson really likes Phinesee and he won’t be encouraged to leave, although he may. This is regardless of what TJD and Race decide to do.
Stewart
Kopp
Lander
Durr
Phinisee
I doubt Phinisee stays, #3 pg as a 5th yr sr probably doesn’t sound good

When players like these three never score with any consistency despite experience, then they gotta go--Phinesee,Parker and Kopp costs IU many games by playing loads of minutes and costing IU several games by nonproduction. One more year isn't going to improve them any. Lander would be my fourth option. IU can get a portal guard that plays better than those 4. Need a mobile, agile big too. Durr and Duncomb will learn. Durr can shoot outside which is more than I can say for TJD. He's a one trick pony who will struggle in the NBA.

At least three players have to go to make room for the three Freshmen. I’d guess Stewart and Lander as two of the three, but if Coach Woodson wants them to stay, and they want to stay, that’s cool with me. Woodson is our coach and I’m trusting him to make the hard and correct decisions. My guess for the third would be Kopp, but I have the same caveats.

Race and Stewart…but who knows. Like you said right now we have a numbers issue

Yeah, Race is probable since he did senior day. Forgot about him. Would love to have him back, but all these guys need to do what they think is best for them.

In order…

*Stewart (Not surprised he is on everyone’s list. For a coach‘s son, not nearly a high enough BBIQ).
*Kopp (if he was a Soph or even Jr with 2 yrs eligibility, maybe. But he is what he is at this point).
*Durr (only because I’d rather have the others. I think he might make major strides next season).

Honorable Mention: Phinisee. I think injuries have been his major problem. Wouldn’t argue if you swapped him with Durr.

Face it, TJD is 99% sure to leave, IMO. So we need two others. 2 among Kopp, Stewart, or Phinesee would be my choice. If Race leaves, we would still need another spot anyway for a transfer Big.

The only players I would try to keep are:
Race
X
Kopp
Stewart
Bates
Geronimo

I’d prefer the rest leave and we take our chances in the portal.

This exercise is backwards...

Forcing us to choose just 3 to stay is harder but also not impossible. And removing TJD from discussion since I think he is gone 100%.

XJ - only if it's post suspension XJ
JG - needs more PT to learn how to play without fouling and overall decision-making but quite possibly our most talented player.
Trey Galloway - almost went Bates here but he didn't show enough to make me think he will be better than this year's Galloway. Would give us a really good defensive back court and would be steadier than Bates to pair with JHS (who likely has ups and downs as a freshman)

I would speculate that Coach will focus on retaining the other three starters. Kopp, Stewart and X will, and this is only my guess, be high priorities for our staff. Next I would think would be JG. Anything beyond that is a big question mark (though I doubt Trey or Leal are going anywhere, Trey will get big minutes, and Leal seems to be happy leading the bench performances).

If Johnson, Stewart, and Kopp have their degrees, they should go and make use of them. They will not be drafted, and likely only play pro ball overseas, or in a lower league in the states. Same for Durr. With his size, he could play overseas and develop his skills, and maybe make some good money there. Trayce and Race have definite Pro potential, but both need another year to hone that, and could be high, first or second round, draftees. Phinisee, Lander, Galloway and Leal, are all Indiana boys and should not be run off. They could be much better next year and finally play up to their potential. Bates and Duncomb should absolutely not be run off. Both could be very productive next year, and beyond. If four leave that leaves one more opening for a big man recruit, or transfer. There's no high ranking big man still available in the class of 2022, so maybe Woodson could find a diamond-in-the-rough, or, better yet, convince someone like Fardows Aimaq to join him at IU. Would let Trayce move to Power Forward, where he belongs. That's what I think!!

I'd lean towards keeping Phin as for a couple of reasons: 1) I don't think we'd get a better PG than Phin in the portal with XJ slotted in the starting spot, 2) I don't want to rely on a freshman combo guard (JHS) as the backup PG - JHS could certainly beat out Phin for that role, I just don't want to count on it. 3) worst case is that Phin a reliable ball handler and solid defender behind XJ and which might allow JHS to play more minutes off the ball if JHS isn't ready to be a PG at the college level.

I would guess that Trayce and Race are gone. Trayce being obvious because he's not getting any better without massively changing from a 5 to a 3 or 4 next year, and Race because certainly he has to have graduated or will in a month. The only way he could stay around is if he can find a graduate program he's interested in and be admitted to.

Beyond that, Kopp, Stewart, Durr need to go for obvious reasons and Leal should go if he ever wants to see the floor.

Lander, I'd like to see come back and give it one more go. He has elite handle and court vision, needs to work harder. Galloway is a good role player, should stay. Phin I'm 50/50 on, it depends on what role he wants whether he'd be willing to.
