Wow, what color is the sky in your world? The players stayed not because Woodson was named HC, but because Archie was gone.

Two of them are need new homes.I have a feeling Brian Walsh is going to be in this business for many years to come but yeah IU's staff right now is mostly comprised of recruiters.
How is a guy with 10 years of head coaching experience at the highest level not qualified? It’s the dumbest argument I’ve seen made on this board. It’s like saying Bill Belichick isn’t qualified to coach our football team because you know, he’s never coached collegiately. It’s nonsense. That's not at all presumptive. If Woody hadn't played at IU, his name would have never come up during HC prospect discussions.
If he weren’t we’d be the biggest fools in our conference. Painter has gotten better over the years and in my opinion is the best coach in the B1G right now. He recruits players that fit his system perfectly and he’s doing more with less than just about any coach in the country. Honestly, if I could change one thing in the history of IU basketball it’d be the recruitment of Painter, because then he could be our “problem” and we’d be set for years with a very good coach.Didn't say that. Do you think Painter would still be here 18 years with his current body of work?
Gotcha. Get back to me at this time next season to see if you feel the same way. Until then, let's table this discussion. How is a guy with 10 years of head coaching experience at the highest level not qualified? It’s the dumbest argument I’ve seen made on this board. Was it a gamble? Sure. But not because he wasn’t qualified.
I never said he was going to succeed or fail. My argument is against those who said he wasn’t qualified and had no business getting the job. Not everyone succeeds at this level, qualified or not, if everyone did there wouldn’t be coaching turnover every year.Gotcha. Get back to me at this time next season to see if you feel the same way. During the time Crean was here IU had 2 big ten titles and 3 sweet 16’s. During the same timeframe Purdue had 2 big ten titles and 3 sweet 16’s. That for Crean was over 9 years. Painters first 9 years? 1 BTT and 2 sweet 16’s. He went 3-13 in conference play his first year and 9-7 his second.Didn't Crean win as many B10 titles as Painter while he was here?
I understand your points; I'm not discounting them. But I ask this: When was the last time a major college program hired a sub-.500 former NBA coach with no experience on a college sideline and had success? I'll wait...I never said he was going to succeed or fail. My argument is against those who said he wasn’t qualified and had no business getting the job. Their fans are having a blast right now watching IU wallow. You should see that fan base come March. How many times does Painter have to choke away a winnable game or lose to a nobody in the tournament? They tolerate Painter because he does the one thing they care about, beating IU. He’s not going to have to answer for repeated tournament failures until he starts losing to IU.If he weren’t we’d be the biggest fools in our conference. I’m jealous of Purdue for having this opportunity, because trust me, their fans are having a blast right now and we’re on this continuous train of fukin frustration.
Juwan Howard? Except he had zero head coaching experience anywhere. That didn’t take long.I understand your points; I'm not discounting them. That and they salivate when an nba guys tells them he can get them into the league. The players stayed not because Woodson was named HC, but because Archie was gone.
Cream and crimson. Yours?Wow, what color is the sky in your world?
Good call, re: Howard. I think my argument is that IU should have been able to land an established college coach. In fact, I firmly believe Dolson was on the right track with Matta until ... whatever happened, happenedJuwan Howard? Except he had zero head coaching experience anywhere. That didn’t take long.
Using Woodson’s record is more than facetious and you know better. He took over a dumpster fire in Atalanta and literally improved their record every single year. He’s the only New York Knicks coach to win 50+ games for them this century and it took them 10 years to reach the players after firing him.
As I’ve gotten older I realize something, I’d rather enjoy a great 4 months of the regular season than pin my hopes on a crap shoot in the tourney for 2 weeks. Purdue fans are getting a lot more pleasure over a lot longer time, because let’s face it, out of the 64 only about 8 really get to enjoy it and frankly IU ain’t gonna be one of those 8 in the foreseeable future.Their fans are having a blast right now watching IU wallow. To each their own. Painter is under no pressure to produce on the national stage. That will never be the case for an Indiana men’s basketball coach. It comes with the territory. As I’ve gotten older I realize something, I’d rather enjoy a great 4 months of the regular season than pin my hopes on a crap shoot in the tourney for 2 weeks. I agree, but let’s start by having a successful regular season. That seems presently out of reach, because it’s going on 7 years now. And our stints on the national stage a month ago were a disaster. To each their own. Painter is under no pressure to produce on the national stage. Then why is he losing to mid-majors when it matters and never been to a Final Four? What advantages did the Mean Green and Peacocks have over Purdue? He had an f'ing lottery pick last year.I think he would have had a better body of work at IU because he would have gotten better talent

We had a lottery pick and didn’t make the tourney one year. What’s your point? If you can’t watch Purdue with an unbiased mind and not see they are a much better program right now then I don’t know what to tell you. They have better coaching, culture and TEAM. Much better program? Mike Davis and Tom Crean have 2 more Final Fours than Painter or Keady have. Larry Bird and Indiana State have been to the final game more recently than PU has. PU is not a national program, and Painter is no closer to winning anything that matters on a national stage than when he began. What mid-major is Painter going to crap the bed against this year? How PU hasn't gotten lucky even one time since 1980 shows how inept they are at the national level. Last year was Painter's best shot, and he blew it.We had a lottery pick and didn’t make the tourney one year. What’s your point? Painter is so great, and yet has been to the same amount of final 4’s since he’s been at Purdoo that IU has with 1 more big ten title.
Might as well stop coaching offense and just focus on D again. We have slid horribly in that department.Ya our defense has got much worse since last year. Dunno how that is possible.
That's fantastic! Purdue should hang those Sweet 16 banners in Mackey.FOUR teams have made it to the Sweet 16 four of the last 5 tournaments. Painter and Purdue is one of these.
He’s the one recruiting so that’s his fault if you believe he has less talent. I think he does a really good job of recruiting to his system honestly. If there’s anything being an IU fan has taught me the last decade, it’s that recruiting rankings don’t mean a thing. When you say he has less talent are you referring to “the movement”? He’s had some damn good players over the years. Some highly ranked, some developed in house. He’s done all of that with far less talent. And while he’s may have just one more conference title, his teams are very competitive almost every year and he’s dominated Indiana.
God knows they have the space. That's fantastic! Purdue should hang those Sweet 16 banners in Mackey.
Painter is Tom Crean without the peaks and valleys. Painter teams more consistent, Tom Crean’s best probably better than Painter. But at the end of the day, neither coach is feared in March.Much better program? Mike Davis and Tom Crean have 2 more Final Fours than Painter or Keady have. You might as well be pining for Tom Crean. Jesus. Have a little pride and set your sights a little higher.
Purdue and Painter predictably choking and losing to a nobody? Yeah I’d bet on that. Happens every year. Rinse, wash, repeat.Come March really how ignorant and delusional is this fan base because of fans like yourself lol.
FOUR teams have made it to the Sweet 16 four of the last 5 tournaments. Sorry Geezer, Painter and Purdue is one of those. Yeah yeah the elusive final four still needs to be reached but no doubt that's something that's attainable for the program. March? WTF do you know about playing in March last decade????? Come this March you will be doing the same thing you have been doing for what 7 years(?) watching Purdue play probably in the second week while your team is thinking about recruiting. Guess what old timer, same situation going to be apply next year as well. Rinse and repeat.
Thank you! What's even funnier is IU actually making it to the second week of the tournament. Is it fun your team doesn't even make the NCAA dance? Well play in game you observed my bad. Blue blood! That's fantastic! Purdue should hang those Sweet 16 banners in Mackey.
8am and already on the rivals board? It’s Saturday my man, take a break.Thank you! What's even funnier is IU actually making it to the second week of the tournament. Is it fun your team doesn't even make the NCAA dance? Well play in game you observed my bad. Blue blood!
Also glad to have @B_Town_Buford back. Surprised you’ve already mailed it in this early. Don’t the Cats have a big game today?
But watching the endless amount of space IU takes up in your head is far more entertaining.Hi Geez(er)
Cats have a huge game . Travel to Bloomington tomorrow. Huge test and read ALOT about their opponent being touted as B10 champion preseason. Give it a watch.
Golden Girls marathon watching today or usual beta tape of the 70's with RMK?
If you don't make the Final Four, does it really matter? Yes, I would take Purdue's performance over Indiana's the last several years, but at least I've been alive for three championships ... which is something you'll never be able to claim.Thank you! yeah it really does matter . yes congrats on your ships those were great teams but you're generation is why Purdue fans make fun of and delusional comments appear. Nights like Thursday are so important in being a fan. Watching a young team, very good coach, win a game they probably shouldn't while your alumni(im guessing your a alumnus hard to tell on here) waffled in a disappointing result that has become all too familiar. Your not a Florida Marlin baseball fan also are you . Couple of ships and sadness come to summer you know.If you don't make the Final Four, does it really matter? Hold on to those memories, I will live in present day.
Lol, “your generation”.
Let me guess, you’re 27-28, probably a chode, with a supply chain degree working at Red Gold paying a 7% interest rate on a mortgage. A recent graduate of Purdue, you’re living through the “glory years” of Purdue basketball, being in elite company for the portion of your fan base who 80 years from now can say they’ve seen Purdue ranked #1. I get why you need our validation.
But at the end of the day, you’re not special. You’re still a Purdue fan.
The complete tone deafness of Purdue fans is astounding. Arguably the worst P5 athletic program in all of Division 1 athletics. Less team national titles than a former B10 school who left Division 1 in the 1940’s.Geez(er) I love the validation comments, so profound. I told you guys last year some of us come here to poke fun at your situation and laugh at your unwarranted arrogance! You have the memories no doubt, good for you. IU basketball fans like yourself are so akin to Nebraska football fans it's frightening. At least fans in Lincoln are just frustrated and not delusional and making of a comeback with a solid coach in place(more than I can say for the situation here)
I also dropped a pearl couple of weeks ago to you folk to rid the Boiler fans here and still haven't listened. Start topics off with IU SOCCER!!! No way we can banter and compete with that!!!!!
Anyway have a healthy weekend and tell those damn Purdue kids...
Stay off my lawn!
Geez(er) cmon now. Let's call a truce. I'll look forward to tomorrow's game win or lose in Philly and will continue to be a fan with hope and faith(due to there is strong conviction in Purdue basketball). You watch your game with hope because that's all watching IU basketball as a fan can blindly rest on. I will politely leave now and apologize to the mod Cavanagh(aka Wooderson) and the good and knowledgeable IU fans here. That lists includes likes of K Kott who is a very good read and even IU North. These type of fans are disappointed but not delusional and many others here. Take note it will make your quality of life a little easier. The complete tone deafness of Purdue fans is astounding. It’s amazing that you think anyone outside the stench of the 765 gives a shit about Purdue athletics. Most don’t even know it exists. And that’s what kills you and always brings you back.
Right?
Or you can get f***** and continue to let IU live rent free in your head. We all know both are bound to happen.Geez(er) cmon now. Let's call a truce.
