He'd come here in a millisecond. Gotta wonder if Happy Valley won't make their move...
Before a smart school scoops him up.
Oh come on now. Which product has a higher ceiling? Dust May, mid 40s and just built a winner at FAU (IN HIS 5th year, but that have him time to cycle out the former and get his in there, kinda like Knights first group of jr & sr's) or mid 60s Mike Woodson who has to work his @$$ off in the portal to field a team that will atleast go .500 next season? 😄. I'd rather take a chance at May and him not working out over the next three seasons then what Woodson has in store his last three seasons in Bloomington. By this time, May will be winning big time at a high major and we have the hope of Michael Lewis working out at IU. Stay the same IU, stay the same. Before a smart school scoops him up.
Here's what would happen in your (along with the other numbnuts in this thread) fantasyland: we kindly let an IU legend and current coach know that he is fired in favor of a former student manager and current head coach of a conference USA powerhouse that just beat three basketball powers in Memphis, FDU, and TN in the NCAA tournament. We find the resources to payoff Mike and sign May for five to seven years. The team flounders over this period similar to Archie's tenure and guys like you call out the administration for being incompetent. Sound about right?Oh come on now. I understand the thinking, but you also have to understand: "ain't no way!" It may just be bad timing, but CMW has definitely improved the team, and results, and has done absolutely nothing to be let go. Now, you can argue we should have done more, but you're not firing someone for doing a good job. The only opportunity, and I don't see it as even a remote possibility, would be if the AD sat down with CMW and talked about what he wanted and he says he does plan to leave in a year or two. In that case maybe you could talk to him about hiring DM as an Associate Head Coach with the agreement he's taking over in the agreed upon time... sort of like how they brought Painter along at PU with Gene's exit. But, that was all in family. The likelihood is so small, you're only torturing yourself to think about it.Oh come on now. Which product has a higher ceiling? Why would he go to Psu?He'd come here in a millisecond. Gotta wonder if Happy Valley won't make their move...
This time next season when IU is 13-17 7-13 in B1G we will have this conversation again. No way. We're gonna hold on to an aging fossil for at least a few more years and watch the next Brad Stevens slip through our fingers. That's what we do at Indiana University!!!Before a smart school scoops him up.
We would never hire him because he was a Mike Davis disciple and remember that Mike was in way over his head. (Yes, I am writing with full sarcasm)Before a smart school scoops him up.
Everything in that is correct, starting with “numbnuts.” We have a very loud perpetually negative, overly emotional, juvenile and miserable subset of fans. Even bringing up the idea of firing Woody (totally undeserved and would make us a laughingstock) and hiring a hot young coach (which we’ve done) is dumb. Treating it like it’s a serious idea is monumentally stupid. And what happens when Dusty May's entire team enters the portal to jump at a bigger opportunity and he goes right back to being a .500 coach like he has most his tenure at FAU. The shock reaction to a cinderella run are just that; overreactions. This time next season when IU is 13-17 7-13 in B1G we will have this conversation again.
What on Earth suggests that he's the next Brad Stevens? Surely not his 66-55 record heading into this year right? No way. We're gonna hold on to an aging fossil for at least a few more years and watch the next Brad Stevens slip through our fingers. That's what we do at Indiana University!!!
Yep, that worked out great for IU.Didn’t the last IU coach make the elite 8 at a mid major?
Not to mention Archie had 10x the resume of Dusty May upon hiring. Rooting like hell for FAU and Dusty May the rest of the way but this idea that he needs to be hired off one tournament run is how we end up with 20 more years of futility.Yep, that worked out great for IU.
We have our coachBefore a smart school scoops him up.
tell me tomorrow's lottery numbersThis time next season when IU is 13-17 7-13 in B1G we will have this conversation again.

You are wrong sir. YOU did not want CMW in the first place. I have said over and over give the man a chance.Let him get his recruits in.Oh come on now. 😄. He built this team with his recruits. Hence the progression. And what happens when Dusty May's entire team enters the portal to jump at a bigger opportunity and he goes right back to being a .500 coach like he has most his tenure at FAU. lol. Put Mike Woodson at FAU his first two years and he wouldnt be as good as Sidney Green was. What a stupid comparison.CMW First 2 years better, we made the tournament the first two years.
No he didn’t.He built this team with his recruits. Hence the progression.
That’s a biased projection.l

Archie Miller was THE hot young coach the year we hired him. People have short memories. Not to mention Archie had 10x the resume of Dusty May upon hiring. Rooting like hell for FAU and Dusty May the rest of the way but this idea that he needs to be hired off one tournament run is how we end up with 20 more years of futility.
These guys would have been calling for him to be fired after the first year and they would have had an epic meltdown after the third and fourth. They can't be taken seriously. They're good for laughs. 😀

We need a larger sample size before we anoint Dusty as our next coach. IMO, must prove himself at a P5 Conference. No more gambling.
Was thinking the same exact thing last night!! Pay him enough as an assistant and let him recruit and together map out his future Love this potential scenario.I understand the thinking, but you also have to understand: "ain't no way!" Woody's ego would never allow it.Was thinking the same exact thing last night!! Pay him enough as an assistant and let him recruit and together map out his future Love this potential scenario.
Why would Tang come to IU? May is from here and an IU grad, but Tang has no ties and IU isn’t much of a program now. Also, the style of play in the B1G would likely turn both these coaches off. It’d be a lot harder to recruit the players they need to run their offenses and play the way that’s made them successful.I’d take him or Tang in a heartbeat. Both would love it here and jump at the opportunity.
Woodson 21-19 in the big ten in two years isnt screaming success. What on Earth suggests that he's the next Brad Stevens? Surely not his 66-55 record heading into this year right?
He's cleaning up the mess from the last hot up and coming coach with one deep tournament run that everyone was screaming about.Woodson 21-19 in the big ten in two years isnt screaming success.
Was he on any of this forums radar before their conference championship? Hell no. Some of you act like you are the ones on some basketball search team. The only reason anyone wants him is for one season. Not his full body which not one person on this board knows or cares. He’s the flavor of the minute. Will he get a better job because of this season? Maybe.FAU was ranked as one of the worst jobs in the nation recently. They play in a glorified high school gym. Do you know hard it is to win there?
It’s not screaming failure either. You guys are Painter nuthuggers and he just beat 2 of his best teams. 2 out of 3 times.Woodson 21-19 in the big ten in two years isnt screaming success.
Except this isn’t a real “potential scenario”. This is message board drivel, total crap. Was thinking the same exact thing last night!! Pay him enough as an assistant and let him recruit and together map out his future Love this potential scenario.
