Gregg Doyel paints a bleak picture for IU in this Q&A

Apparently Doyle believes that everyone that didn't get the untested/unproven vax, is (gasp!) crazy and shouldn't be allowed to voice an opinion. Just like sports writers. THEY NEVER ARE ALLOWED TO VOICE AN OPINION. That the good Dr. Fauci who believes that the virus that killed thousands and thousands of people just appeared out of nowhere (while at the same time the good Dr. made a killing himself by teaming up with some lab in China... "just coincidence") is a modern day messiah, and anyone who questions anything the good Dr. says "makes everyone unsafe." You know... just be a good little socialist and shut your mouth... or else.
Stop embarrassing yourself.

Would these people tolerate incompetence in their own businesses? Or is it just a case of promoting your idiot son in law because your daughter likes him.
I’d guess they want him to go out on a high. They probably have some sort of portal plan they are hoping works. So more #2. Some journo should ask all these people involved — Quinn and Scott are fair game for sure.

For sure it does. But why we haven't had a Robert Ford type of guard since Woody arrived? Its incredibly frustrating.

Time might be making me softer...but I'm starting to come back to the thought on how damaging the combination of JHS leaving was, and X having a horrible year with the injuries and with his play. Woody has failed to build any semblance depth at the guard position, and that failure can't be discounted. But thinking back to recruiting during the last couple offseasons...until late in the season last year, Woody had to be banking on having both JHS and X this year. No one had JHS as a 1st round NBA guy coming out of HS. That doesn't account for him not bringing in any portal guards last offseason...and that was a huge failure. But it can partially explain our depth issues.

Its leaving a small spot in my brain for the possibility that Woody will focus heavily on guards, and will show an ability to get the right kinds of guards, via late HS and Portal kids. Its possible the last time WOODY thought recruiting guards was a huge priority...he was able to land guys like JHS, Cupps, Newton, etc...

Just scrounging in the cushions for little bits of optimism...
A properly constructed roster really should have 3 person (starter, backup, developing) depth at 3 spots: PG, post and wing, and you better have a healthy mix of shooters across those 3. What we didn't have at PG this year, was 1) a healthy starter, and 2) a backup. Cupps really was the developmental guy. If you want to feel really depressed about our guards, think about where we'd have been shooting 3s without Ware, Reanu and Mbako's 3s.

Doyel said it sounds like Malik was leaving in this article. Another thing wrong.
From this decision and what Leal said, it sounds like the players love Woody or they’ll be taking advantage of some NIL money that would be hard to match. I thought Reneau could get a good deal from a tourney level team if he wanted.

We like Reneau because he's our guy. But look at it from another team's view - he can't stay out of foul trouble, he's soft on rebounding (to be kind), and he just doesn't appear to have a high BB IQ.

Sorry, but that's how I see him. I think he has great potential, if he could stop whining enough to see things objectively. He kind of reminds me of Landon Turner, before his light came on. Lots of potential, but is it something a tournament team would pay him for (NIL). Probably not as much as we value him. Jmo.

That is probably the most ignorant thing I’ve ever read.

They tested it on me 3 times. No covid!

You mean like Knight did when he became coach?

I believe he banned boosters from the locker room and pissed off a lot of old-timers at the time.
If true, Knight didn't piss them off for very long. His third game as new IU coach, IU beat KY 90-89 in 2 OT. His second season he won the BT conference title and went to the FF. By year five IU was undefeated, a record that still stands 48 years later.
When the record hits 50, I suspect IU will have a major celebration. If ever there was an ideal time to unveil a bronze statue of RMK, that event would be it. I wonder if Pam...excuse me, Pamela Whitten is astute enough to recognize this opportunity. What do you bet it blows over her head and all the rest of her seven dwarfs calling themselves the board of directors (bored as directors)?. That said, think about it...the contrast to be quite glaring looms, given the more modern performance of recent leadership at multiple levels of incompetence. "From Perfect To The Pits!" the headlines might read.

An interesting tidbit-Knight's first meeting against KY "he" won and would go on to win six out of his first seven meetings against KY leading up to the '76 team of such renown. Sadly, that one loss during the span was a big one, the Mid-west Regional Finals in Dayton, OH. I was there. The loss cost us a banner. It hurts to this day.

Oh, I think there was a lot of the pre-Knight players that didn't care for Knight. For one thing, he as an O$U grad and that grated on a lot of people - it had only been 10 years prior when he was playing against us.

The other thing is, he pretty much ignored any accomplishments by McCracken. I don't think Bobby Leonard was ever very close to IU after Knight because coach.

Are you sure you numbers are right? I thought Knight lost once to Rupp?

I was in a tent on the W. German/Czech border at 3am listening to us lose that game in '75, courtesy of the Armed Forces Network. The broadcast cut out the last minute and I missed then ending until it came back on with Wayne Radford getting in a fight right at the tent.

The next Fall, I was enrolled at IU and enjoyed the perfect season very much.

Nah, Landon Turner wasn't nearly as animated as Reneau. Landon had a better body...longer appendages one might call them. The "light bulb" you speak of with Landon was when his spirit kicked in to propel his assertiveness. I think Reneau is a little immature but by next season he'll calm down and realize it was hurting his game. He's a stud. I like his game.

Yes, there were a lot who didn't like the hire. I was one of them. I had never heard of the guy and was hoping for Norm Sloan. Like I said, that disappointment didn't last long.

I was a junior when Knight arrived and I don't remember Knight not recognizing McCracken accomplishments like it was an oversight. Why would he? Branch was dead by the time Bob got to B-town. He was too busy working hard on his own accomplishments. Hoosier Nation is thankful for his work ethic, not for kissing asses of those who came before him. Did you expect Bob to sing the praises of a dead Branch while Lou listens. That would be uncomfortable for our former IU All American, Lou Watson.

from Wikipedia "IU vs Kentucky basketball rivalry"...

December 17, 1971: IU 90, UK 89 (2 OT): In 1971 Bob Knight took the head coaching job at Indiana. His first game against Kentucky went into double overtime with IU winning 90–89. Indiana's Steve Downing scored 47 points (on 19-of-39 shooting) and 25 rebounds in what would be one of the best all-time performances against Kentucky.[6] From this game until the 1976 season, Indiana would only lose a single game to the Wildcats in seven meetings.

"Get your covid shot... get your booster covid shot... get your booster to your booster covid shot... get your booster to the booster to the other booster covid shot... or we'll come and take your job away, take your family away, take your future away... because you've made us all unsafe!" - The Animal Farm
You overstate it , but he was right

Well, I would have expected Knight to bring in, and honor, former players, like he did his own, despite the fact McCracken wasn't around. I don't remember him doing that, or honoring the previous championship teams.

2 and 3 are all he's selling, not good basketball, development, and winning
I have to disagree. Regarding development he’s had some tremendous successes. Unfortunately Woody inherited a trio of guards who just were not very good. And Hoosier nation is still in denial about it. And now we’re gonna run it back next year too!

He didn't prioritize getting any either! One or two misses and it appeared to be 'Oh well, I'll try again next year.'
That's on Coach.
