If true, Knight didn't piss them off for very long. His third game as new IU coach, IU beat KY 90-89 in 2 OT. His second season he won the BT conference title and went to the FF. By year five IU was undefeated, a record that still stands 48 years later.
When the record hits 50, I suspect IU will have a major celebration. If ever there was an ideal time to unveil a bronze statue of RMK, that event would be it. I wonder if Pam...excuse me, Pamela Whitten is astute enough to recognize this opportunity. What do you bet it blows over her head and all the rest of her seven dwarfs calling themselves the board of directors (bored as directors)?. That said, think about it...the contrast to be quite glaring looms, given the more modern performance of recent leadership at multiple levels of incompetence. "From Perfect To The Pits!" the headlines might read.
An interesting tidbit-Knight's first meeting against KY "he" won and would go on to win six out of his first seven meetings against KY leading up to the '76 team of such renown. Sadly, that one loss during the span was a big one, the Mid-west Regional Finals in Dayton, OH. I was there. The loss cost us a banner. It hurts to this day.
