DeSantis kicks Special Olympics ass

Such a douchebag.

I wish I was down there. I love the espn facilities and would enjoy checking out some of the games. World games I think are next summer.

Weird twist of fate I'm home and my stoker is with her friends seeing Styx and Reo. Of the entire crew I bet they can't name one song by either band nor would recognize any of them if they were in line at the grocery store

Such a douchebag.

You do mean, future Pres DeSantis douchebag, right?
He continues to hit the walk off Grand Slam. Many thought it wasn't achievable, again and again and AGAIN. ... HE JUST WENT YAAAAAAAAAAARD.

Going to see that tour next Friday at Ruoff. Throw in Loverboy.
Hope no one breaks a hip.

Never. And yes he’s a royal douchebag.
Covid is, on average, much more serious for individuals with developmental disabilities, yet the state of Florida doesn’t give a shit. On top of that, many of these individuals are not the ones deciding whether they get vaccinated.

YOU really can't just accept reality. When freedom wins, you don't have to take that as a loss, you really don't. How about come and row in the same direction as reality. We all win!

And another one. He’s as thin skinned and vindictive as Trump.
The vaccine mandate violates Fla state law. It's a law. Not singling groups out or bullying. Now the law itself is virtue-signaling. And I despise virtue signaling. A private, nonprofit, etc should be able to do what they want. And I don't believe in vaccine mandates either. This Is DeSantis overreach to virtue signal to his side. Sad. And it's harmful to this group.

Sasse said the the other day that our country is governed on both sides by "weirdos." The 2 percent who care more about getting social media likes and magazine covers and they're ruining America for the rest of us. The left goes loony and the right responds with spite laws. It's all dumb

DeSantis isn't a douchebag as he is for individual choice not gov't deciding for people like you wanting a gov't to decide for individuals. He isn't against vaccines and they don't stop COVID transfer.

The vaccines aren't stopping the COVID and people that take all the shots still get sick and spread the virus. I saw it with my wife and when I got COVID taking care of her I got it but I didn't get as sick as she did.

I understand and I don't like mandates. But if a business wants to do so they should be able to. What's more re the special Olympics you have a vulnerable group of athletes. It's DeSantis being spiteful and playing to an audience

DeSantis is following the law in Florida and leaving up to parents to decide if their children can take the shot, all them can't have the shot.

Then why won't he allow the Special Olympics to make their own choice about vaccination?

It is about following Florida law and letting individual parents decide that is why; besides not all kids in Special Olympics can take the shot due to health issues.
So private organizations are not free to have their own rules and standards, correct?

It is still Florida law and it is about individual freedom to choose [since I am a Libertarian at heart I like individual choice over group think].
I'm mostly a libertarian at heart too. But I believe a business has the right to make its own rules re vaccines, masks, shirts, shoes

He strikes me as an angry little man with a Napoleon complex.

I think an argument can be made that he's even more vindictive than Trump. With Trump, it's always about him and everything is strictly personal. If someone goes after him personally, he'll retaliate times 10. DeSantis though, retaliates for expressions of free speech and he'll go after organizations (e.g. the Special Olympics) for policy positions that run counter to his rules. Disney embraces "woke" concepts? DeSantis retaliates. The Rays issue a public statement about gun violence and the need for legislative change? DeSantis vetoes $35 million in funding for a spring training facility, commenting that "it would be inappropriate to subsidize political activism of a private corporation." Special Olympics wants their athletes vaccinated? DeSantis threatens to fine them $27.5 million.

The guy's a little dictator.

Then I’d think you’d be for private organizations setting their own laws, not the government setting it for them. Which individuals are not able to get vaccinated? Besides those too young?

I despise virtue signaling. Biden outside in a mask is virtue signaling. Countless insiders have said all these people take them off right after the cameras leave. DeSantis telling the students to take their masks off at FAU or FIU or wherever he was same shit. Just govern on principles not virtue bs. It's offensive. A weird paternalistic creepiness

What does that have to do with requiring a vaccine and having that violate law?

No, vaccines just make it so you have a lot let risk of having serious problems from getting covid.

That is like saying don't wear a bullet proof vest in a gun fight because it doesn't protect the entire body

It didn't. Just making a point re sweeping mandates. There are posters here who certainly would have advocated same

I have no issues with mandates for public health and/or safety. Smoking bans on public buildings, vaccines required for kids to attend school, vaccines to fight a pandemic, seat belts required in cars etc.

I don't understand why people drew the line at covid vaccine as that was somehow different than the other laws and mandates

Countless reasons to give people pause. Haste. Novelty. And even if people say the "ingredients" have been around that had nothing to do with risks for handling, dirty labs etc. For an illness that kills less kids than the flu and car crashes. In reality does little to healthy people. It's not something to mandate. If a person wants it do it. If a biz wants to mandate it great. If special Olympics wants to great.

I think you are right, Special Olympics is a group voluntarily joined. They should be allowed to have their rules.

I think we are past the point of vaccines being game changers, the mutated versions are not being as effectively handled. I still think the vaccine is helpful, just not a game changer. But if a private group cannot set policy on this, what else can they not set policy on? I may not think a prayer is appropriate at school, but should the state have the right to tell the Indy 500 they cannot say the prayer before the race? I believe they have the right to say it, but if we are taking things to the individual rights level with vaccines, why not with prayer? I suspect there is an attendee somewhere who feels their religion is violated by that prayer.
