Biden dropping out. Wow. Faster than I thought.

You don’t think that could backfire?

I get what you’re saying. But, given all the circumstances, there are definitely some real risks with that.
I absolutely think it could backfire, which is why I said it was a bad idea before. But now I'm thinking when you look at a Harris-Trump race, you gotta think you can do better, and I think the drama of a genuine open convention is the ticket to that. Hell, maybe Harris still ends up winning, and she comes out of it stronger because of it.

B. Your advice would have been to do what? Criticize the half dozen or so candidates to replace Biden and hope one of them comes to fruition?
Whitmer/Kelly ticket wins easily. That's all I'm saying. Kamala is going to get exposed and she might not be capable of winning enough votes.

Saw this coming. Once the donors go it’s game over. Joe Biden. Archie Miller. Whatever.
Why did we ever get to this point? It's been obvious for a long time that he had lots of health problems and there was nothing he could do about those. They should have told him a year ago that they wouldn't support him but instead stuck their head in the sand and kept saying he was fine when he wasn't fine.

Better late than never. Pubs are still blindly supporting Trump. No excuse

There’s $90M being withheld and I bet those high end donors will want a say before releasing the cash. I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s someone else, especially if the polling numbers have Trump way ahead just before the convention. You might as well be in it to win it and she’s not well liked in her own party.

Fine by me. Let the back room do its work if that's what it takes to beat Trump. Lucy? kurt? Bring it on.

The state requirements here are messy
Those are not the presidential requirements, no official Democratic presidential ticket exists until voted on by the convention. There is no replacing Biden in Wisconsin because he has never been submitted anywhere as the candidate.

Those people are simply misunderstanding the law. In none of those states is Biden even on the ballot yet. He doesn't need to be removed or replaced. The deadline to nominate the party's candidate in Wisconsin is Sept 3. I'm not sure what the deadlines are for Nevada or Georgia, but I do know they haven't passed, yet. The only state who had a deadline that happened before the Dem convention was Ohio, and as I learned last week, they passed a law to move the deadline back to accommodate the party. So as long as the Dems select a nominee at the convention (or before), they'll be on all the ballots, no problem.

Based on number of delegates…probably 3-5 candidates?

In theory, there is enough for 14 to run

It’s just insane when you think about the influence some of these people have. Clyburn is totally worthless. A Bach from a shitty school. Spends 20 years in hr or something along those lines for the state then goes to dc. Oversees the only true Dem dist in a state (the black belt) so has his vote locked up. No other sector would this guy have an ounce of influence yet in fed gov he’s deemed a kingmaker. Oh and he’s older than biden

He delivered South Carolina to Biden when everyone else was floundering, and Biden beat Trump. Clyburn is a hero.

What will the Dems do for Veep?

Someone with nuke experience would be good.

Why do we need to autopsy this? He's dropping out because his supporters don't think he can win, and they've finally convinced him of the same. Everything else is just marketing.
Are you asking why we should believe a president who has been convinced he’s not fit to run for another term should be convinced he’s fit to serve out the next 6 months?

Are you joking? Is this like a joke of some kind you are playing?

that’s a myopic view. He came in if memory serves on the heels of packing. Districting has been a feature of his career (if not outright preservation) and his counties have a horrific history of persistent poverty - nationally amongst the worst. And I get where they started from but ensuring poor black voters are his district is his political oxygen. That he influences national politics is pretty frightening

News is saying he subsequently endorsed her.

I’m at the local wings joint where I watched the last hour of the open and when this interrupted the standard sports programming I noted that no one seemed shocked or surprised. Republicans, Trumpsters and Democrats showed very little interest and didn’t even talk about it. I have no idea what this means, but it is interesting.
It means nobody gives a sh!t about the dems and whatever communist plan they are trying to achieve except you and the other zero IQ posse here.

Because….if he’s not fit to run then how can we say he’s fit to serve out his term.

It’s somewhat important
Aloha already answered this. Fit to serve means 6 months. Fit to run means 54.

But it's not even actually that. He didn't say he's unfit to run, and neither did I. He's dropping out because he can't win, period. It's politics. Doesn't matter if he's fit or not. He's going to lose, so they have to go with someone who at least has a chance.
